We waited over two hours to be seated as a table of seven. In the meantime, we spent a lot of money downstairs to hold over our hunger until we could get a table. Once we arrived to check in upstairs, they asked to split our party, and I told them that we had waited over two hours to be seated together. We have family in town that we never get to see. She said that she still had another party to seat ahead of us that had been waiting an hour, so we could split our group or wait. She was very rude and made a smart remark. We were all looking forward to coming here, and I don't care to ever come back. Service at Down Under was terrible--about 30-45 minutes just to get a menu and then another 30 minutes for a round of waters, lol. Down under was extremely loud but the band was very good and the wait staff was nice. Service upstairs was alright, but how the check-in staff treated their customers sucked. There were also many other tables complaining about not having anything to drink. We ordered boudin balls, coconut shrimp - ask for mango habanero sauce, chicken fried chicken- add honey-jalepeno sauce, grilled catfish and fries, avocado delight, and chocolate mousse cake. The service was nothing exceptional but no complaints. The vibe inside is expected, we hung out outside with our kids for an hour and enjoyed the views and watched the boats go by. read more

Once every five years when we happen to be on the island we stop in and have an amazing meal. Honey jalapeño shrimp,oysters on half shell,and the Texas red fish all equally delicious worthy of high praise. We can not, not mention the awesome cornbread hush puppies and the hand breaded onion rings, do try, yum. Place slows down around 2:30 or come whenever, grab a beverage and watch the SHIP show on the intercoastal on the deck. very entertaining. Total Chaos It was a beautiful SE Teaxas day which meant a road trip from NW Houston to visit Stingaree. I've heard good things. I called ahead because we were bringing the dogs along. I was told the dining room deck is no longer used, but the dogs were welcome downstairs. I asked if it was the same menu and was told no. They started rattling off menu items and it sounded good. We arrived around 2.30p. There were approx 4-5 tables inside and 3 out on the deck. There was an open table on the deck, but covered with dirty dishes. I also noticed there was only one person behind the bar. No floor service. We went out to the table and pushed things to the side. I went to the bar to order drinks. I waited about 5 minutes as others were ahead of me. I got my drinks and asked if I had to order food at the bar. The answer was yes. I asked about getting the table cleaned. She said she would get to it, but she was the only one working. I returned to the table and the bartender was right behind. I asked about food menus, she said their were none, but there was a chalkboard at the door. I proceeded to go get a picture of the chalkboard. I reviewed the dining room menu before leaving Houston. We knew we wanted to try the Bar Trash (blackened shrimp, crab and calamari on a bed of rice). I left my group and ran upstairs to order. To my amazement, there were many, many people working (servers I mean and standing around). I placed my order and after 10 minutes was on my way back to the group. I returned to the downstairs bar to order additional food. We opted for the boiled shrimp and southwest egg rolls. Again, I waited about five minutes before placing my order. There was a new girl behind the bar and the gentlemen ahead of me was ordering a beer. He asked to add it to his tab. He provided his last name. No go. He gave his first name. No go. His frustration grew (so did mine). He ultimately pulled out $3 and paid cash. If y'all are going to run tabs, you better know how to get back to them. I finally got to place my food order. I asked the bartender how I would know when my food is ready. She said I would need to go up to the kitchen and ask if it was ready. What?! The Bar Trash was good. It was heavy in shrimp, but light on crab and calamari. For $18 I wish it was a better mix. Not knowing about all the shrimp in order, I suppose we would have done something other than boiled shrimp. I walked over to the kitchen. Thankfully our order was ready. The boiled shrimp were amazing. Cooked well. Seasoned well. Served with a good cocktail sauce. The egg rolls were okay. I didn't expect much. While eating, a third girl came out to the deck with food and drinks for another table. I guess it is all in who you know, because they were the only ones who received any table service. We finished our food, took all our trash to the garbage and proceeded to the bar for my tab. Another five minute wait. Here's what we learned: The upstairs has all the service in the world. Downstairs, expect to wait a long time, order everything at the bar, check in with the kitchen for the readiness of your food, and bus your own table. Oh yeah... as we were leaving I noticed menus made it to all tables. Maybe management should share some of the upstairs resources with downstairs to make it a better experience for their customers. We were worried that this place would have been on a wait as its a Friday night, but we walked in and were sat immediately. Our server, I didn't warm to her immediately because she is quick and to the point. She is very efficient though and she is handling at least 5 to 6 tables on her own. Its a busy place by now, covid standards. We had our drink orders taken and were offered a suggestion of bacon wrapped shrimp, of course we agreed. Now, we are on the gulf coast, and we should have taken that into consideration, but we didn't, and while the shrimp were good, they were indeed gulf shrimp, with that 'not so clean' taste that always accompanies gulf seafood. Attempted to dine at the Stingaree and accidentally selected their "Down Under" bar. Was not impressed with the price or limited selection of cold wraps. Taste wasn't bad but more like vending machine fare for $15 a crack. Next time we will know that we need to check in at the stand on the left to dine upstairs. read more

Our party of 13 adults plus two littles under 3 years old waited the long wait time at 5:30 on a Thursday night - a little over an hour. Food was decent - nothing over the top to write about, just standard seafood fare. Service was fine, and the ambiance is ok...saw several barges go by so the kids enjoyed those. The excitement started in the middle of the night for 4 of the 12 adults that ate...vomiting and diarrhea. Two people at the shrimp brochette appetizer, one had a salad with ranch dressing and chicken on top and the other had the fried seafood platter. Hellen I walked in the hostess told me I could not bring my cup in, I explained the situation and she said she would ask the manager, upon her return she had him with her, he stated that i would not be able to bring my cum in the restaurant, he said that the restaurant itself didn't have a problem with it, it was TABC state law that he was abiding by. I pulled up the tabc website and showed him where there was NO tabc rule against bringing an empty cup into a bar or restaurant. I asked him to read it, he did and stated I didn't know that. The turned around and said it's the restaurants policy, I said 2 minutes ago you said the restaurant didn't have an issue with it. Now that I've proven your ignorance on the law you are going to be all pissy. I said so, you are going to discriminate against someone with a disability? He said we don't discriminat. I said apparently you do. You are making up the rules on the fly now that I've educated you. I look forward to sharing this with my attorney. Bread pudding was a great finish to the meal. Despite what others have said, the staff is taking Covid seriously...the place is clean, and more importantly, they're treating customers like adults. Food, unfortunately, a mixed bag - we liked ahi tuna steak, baked potato, fried mushrooms, salad, cf steak and bread pudding. The other items not so much - crawfish, etoufee and fried, dirty rice, fish tacos, gumbo, key lime pie, carrot cake - not "awful" but not worth ordering again. The fried catfish is good The seared tuna while tasting fresh was way over cooked and dry. But flavor was okay The jerk shrimp was way over seasoned it was so spicy I just could not eat it. The atmosphere had no pretense, as you knew you were eating at a seafood shack, giving the vibe that the seafood was fresh off the boat. For my first visit to the Bolivar Peninsula, I chose to eat lunch here last Sunday. The restaurant is on the second floor obviously as most businesses are elevated due to the potential flooding risk on this narrow strip of land. Stingaree is located directly next to a intra coastal canal so while visiting you can watch the marine traffic passing by from fishing and recreational boats to tugs pushing barges. Of course they have outdoor seating but this day was a little cool so I sat inside. I decided to order the grilled seafood platter with a cup of crawfish étouffée and mixed veggies. First to come out is a complimentary bread basket. The bread here is hard and dry like Melba toast and I didn't particularly care for it to nosh on. My meal came out in about 15 minutes. I thought the cole slaw was bland and added pepper to it. The étouffée was ok especially with the crawfish being out of season. I would give it a 3. The plate had 2 kebabs of bbq shrimp, a stuffed shrimp, grilled fish fillets and two crabs. While it was a lot of food I was uninspired by it. Of course grilled seafood can sometimes be this way but I thought the fish was dry and while the bbq rub that they used on the shrimp was good, I could only give this meal a 2.5. If I returned I would order something else. However I do believe this restaurant deserves at least a 3 from me. My table service was very good. Just stick to the fried options. read more
