Went for dinner and there was a 2 hour wait. Luckily there's a bar menu and they were very accommodating with allowing us to eat at the outdoor tables. We had drinks, two crab salad rolls and boiled shrimp. The food wasn't amazing but it was fresh and fast. read more

They get crazy busy so we went early on a Friday night. They said it was a forty five minute wait but it ended up only being fifteen! My daughter got the Bolivar Boil and it was so much food and well prepared! I had the crab cakes which are market priced. They were truly full of fresh crab meat and delicious, but somehow in my mind, $38 was high for two cakes. My son in law had the fried catfish which he said was some of the best he's ever had. Service was good but the food was extremely slow coming out of the kitchen. You could tell it was bothering our server even though we never showed frustration because hey, everyone is short handed and we were on vacation. No stress allowed!! read more

They have seats outside but won't allow people to sit in them. No masks at all and they're completely oblivious that people from Houston and other big cities may be dining there. How stupid can you be?? The staff doesn't seem to be taking any precautions at all! Too bad because the food is decent and the service is pleasant. read more

Can't leave an honest review about the restaurant food because the wait was so incredibly long that after an hour and we decided to go ahead and go somewhere else. The restrooms were boiling hot and the inside of the restaurant was so uncomfortably hot and overcrowded that having a pleasant experience there was not likely. Too bad because I have heard good things about this place and definitely wanted to dine in. I am not opposed to trying again later on in the future. The outside deck area offered a very beautiful sunset as well as a nice family-friendly atmosphere. read more

Ate there for dinner, I had Bolivar Boil and my husband had Louie's platter?. Both were excellent. I would highly recommend. Waitress was Nickie and she did a great job, very attentive. They are very acknowledging of military and veterans which was nice to see. All the staff was super friendly. Thanks for a great meal! read more

I'm happy to say that after swearing years ago I'd never go to Stingaree again, I recently gave it another try and was astounded by how much it has improved. It's obviously been extensively renovated and is now a very pleasant building with great panoramic views of the water. After the last time when I wanted barbecue crab and was told they were out, only to see someone get them after me because they came on a combo platter I wasn't told about, I was prepared for an argument, but no need, my waitress was great, told me she would have to check if the crabs were still available by themselves, but if not, would I want them on the combo plate? I did end up getting the combo plate and it was fantastic, the crabs plus shrimp several ways, a fish fillet, and cup of gumbo, and a good value for that much food. I'm so glad Stingaree has returned to its former glory! read more

This place was great! Went in for lunch today and had an excellent experience. Our server Brenda G. greeted us immediately with menus, a smile and a great attitude. I had the Blackened Bar Trash, a generous serving of shrimp, crab and calamari on rice. Very little rice and an abundance of seafood and it was one of the best seafood dishes I've had in a long time. We split a piece of key lime pie for dessert, also excellent. It was served on an Oreo crust and the lime pie filling wax almost like ice cream. Well, we waited about 25 to 30 minutes to get a seat, but with good company so that wasn't bad. The waitress was super friendly, food was good, prices a little high. Would I go back, not soon just a little over priced but not bad spot if your not on a budget. I suggest the appetizer platter to start, you get to sample some goodies. read more

Stopped by Stingaree on my way back from the rookery at high island. I heard it was good and it's one of very few restaurants in these parts on the way back down Bolivar peninsula. The vibe was 80s beachtown and we sat on the second floor facing the ocean. That view is surprisingly nice. So the ambience hit the mark. As far as the food, the seafood we got was overly salty, but overall not bad. Service was fine. Not the kind of place I would crave but a place to keep in mind if you happen to be in the area, that's my opinion. read more

Everytime the fam gathers together on bolivar, we always come here for a family meal. They often times have a wait but it's well worth it. The food was amazing. We got the calamari, and a shrimp platter which had a combo of fried, grilled, boiled, stuffed, and jalapeño sauced shrimp. We split the meat and my husband and I could barely finish the shrimp much less the side. The restaurant is upstairs but fortunately they had an elevator to transport one person at a time...service was excellent and would enjoy going back if we are every in the area again. read more

Asked for boiled crab. I was told they didn't have it, but the "boiler plate" was available. Ordered that instead. It came out covered in Old Bay seasoning (not listed on the menu, and I'm very allergic). The waitress was quick to correct it, but to correct it meant they just rinsed off the pieces I had already been served. $20+ menu item... and completely inedible. How unfortunate. :( read more

I don't care what the food taste like for these prices! Completely ridiculous, save your money!!! I got a fried shrimp platter. Came with a small handful of shrimp and a little bit of dirty rice. With a coke it cost me over $19. See my photo. Unbelievable! The dirty rice was more rice and less dirty but it didn't taste bad. The shrimp were way over cooked and were like chewing leather. I asked for a manager and one came over and apologized. My money was refunded and he asked me to give them another chance. I intended to rate the place one star but moved it up because of the managers apology. He stated that's not how he does business. I still wonder why I got $5 worth of food for $19. I'll give them a second chance one day and update when I do. read more

Great place with good food, located right on the bay. You can see barges pass by as you enjoy your meal. They have a pretty large menu. Everybody should be able to find something they enjoy here. The BBQ crabs are hot ticket item for an appetizer and the crab cakes always catch my eye on the menu. Although, if you're not in a seafood mood, their burger and fries are good too. This place can get crowded at times which makes the dining area a bit loud. That's really the only complaint I have and it's really just nit-picky. Great place to eat! read more

Best place to eat in the area! Seafood is tasty. Mermaid Water is one of my favorite cocktails to order while watching the amazing sunset. Has bands at their bar, The Down Under, that is below the restaurant. All the staff is motivated, hard workers that service a crowd. read more

If you're going to splurge on seafood and have time to drive a little THIS IS THE SEAFOOD SPOT!! A friend of mind recommended it and we were going to visit Galveston and the restaurant is in route .. The food was seasoned perfectly and cook for perfection ! The gumbo was my fav! The location is good located next to the water but we were residing in Beaumont so it was a little drive but definitely WORTH IT!! My only regret was not trying the bread budding so if you go check this spot out don't make the same mistake! read more

I give 4 stars because it's a great place to sit by the water and have cold drinks, but this visit, the food wasn't the greatest. I ordered the Greek Snapper and it was small and overcooked. My husband had the grilled seafood platter and the crabs were extra well done. Hardly any meat to get out. The boudin balls were good and so was the house salad. Don't trust the hours listed on Yelp. This restaurant was listed as open today on Yelp, but it is closed for the holiday and does t reopen Until Dec 26. Very disappointing especially admired driving more than two hours and taking the ferry. read more

Nope. 2 stars are for the 2 meals that were good. Being that they are the only restaurant open during off season you would think they would be a little nicer. When my friend called to order she was told they would only take to go orders until 7pm. She called back at 6:45 and was hung up on. She called from her husbands cell and they answered. While waiting for the to go order, my friend was told to get out of the way and that's where they run to food. He was standing by the bar and was told to wait there. Several others waiting for food or a bar drink were told the same thing. They were all extremely rude to everyone. Everyone was confused. When he got back home, his stuffed shrimp wasn't even in the bag. He didn't double check the order because it was so packed he didn't want to deal with the rude workers any longer. I got a Greek salad and added grilled shrimp, which wasn't grilled. It was sautéed. And the shrimp were tiny. Would have expected larger ones being that we were on the Gulf Coast. My husband's grilled chicken with green beans were awesome and my friend's wife got a burger and fries that were great. We will try again when we come back in the summer when more is open in Bolivar. read more

I decided to lean more toward the 4-star side, so here we are. While in Galveston for a quick weekend getaway, we wanted to go out for dinner. Katie's was my first choice, but the wait was too long, so I pulled up Yelp to see what else was recommended. Shark Shack had great reviews, and when we arrived there was zero wait, so we went for it. The one area where I docked a star was the service. We were seated immediately but waited quite a while for our server to appear, and then even longer to get our drinks. I was so excited for a margarita, but when it arrived in a plastic cup, I was immediately disappointed. Plastic cups are for the beach and nightclubs, not a restaurant with a bar. And that's not where the awful drink experience ended -- it was so weak and just not good at all. Our server seemed so disinterested in everything: taking our order, answering questions, and when it came time to pay, we had to wait ages to see him and wave him down. The food was decent with no major complaints. It wasn't "blow your mind" amazing, but it was good. The owner -- well, I assume he was the owner -- came and spoke to us when he found out my husband was military, and he was really nice, friendly, and very supportive of the military community, offering a very generous military discount. That definitely raises the rating and is much appreciated, so thank you. Overall, the big fixes for me would be the service and the drink situation. I can't say we would rush to come back just because we love Katie's for the service, food, and drinks..
