Pretty basic as post offices go but does the main bit (you know, posting stuff). They don't sell phones or cards or any of the extras that most of the others do. read more

30p, that's all I used to need to get my lunch in here, a big roll and a packet of chickatees, one…read moretasty chickatee roll coming up! Okay I was in the local secondary school and crisp sandwiches were really popular in those times, I remember some girls even using their bus fare too get this lovely lunch. I suppose you would need to walk home and get the exercise if you ate that many crisp sandwiches! Anyway, Lynam's is the local newsagent/ convenience store for the local school and the locals around Lower Goatstown. It has all the usual things a newsagent has but this one is special because it also has a post office! Yes, that's right this shop has that very Irish multifunction thing going on and very handy it is too!
I believe their Banana Bread is really really good.. OK OK, I gave them the recipe, but its still…read moretrue :) I've tried their in house freshly baked pizza and it was delicious. There was roasted butternut squash, feta and caramelised onion on it. Their breakfast pizza was pretty impressive too. If Lynams keep on this track, they'll be the Mortons or Donnybrook Fair of Goatstown. The shop also doubles as a post office which is always a bonus. We went away with a nice Chablis and Fleurie, both of which were lovely wines. The area is lucky to have Lynams, it's not your average newsagent.
On right: Front half has goats cheese and roast peppers, the back half has roast butternut squash, feta and caramelised onion.
Shop front, with unlocked bike leaning up against it.

Is it me or are post offices beginning to expand into very 'un…read morepostofficy' sort of areas? I have already reviewed one in Sandymount that doubles as a deli but I truly didn't expect to find one that also served as a toy shop - but that is exactly what the Nutgrove shopping centre post office does. Things are all fairly cheap playthings, disposable really, but when you have a grumbling 18 month old in the buggy and all you need is a 2Euro donkey to get you through the next 30 mins of shopping there's no where like it!
I didn't believe it when quentin wrote about the post office in nutgrove,it used to be in the…read moremiddle of the centre and did nothing more than what a post office should (or usually does) but he is right! in order to get to the post officey bit at the back you have to fight through the kids and toys to get to it. now its not like a smyths and you are unlikely to get any brand name toys in here, rather, you will find tacky tea sets and pink plastic crowns. or for the boys you could have some cow boy guns or a chunky bulldozer (wait, forget the boy girl divide bit there either type of kids could like any of the toys i mentioned! its almost 2010 for gods sake!) anyway, take this review as a warning if you need to go to the Post ofice and you have a kid in tow, you will need to bring a few extra euros so that you can buy whatever cheap toy grabs the attention of the child, very good marketing ploy from this shop!
This is one of those post offices that still looks like it probably did 50 years ago and i like…read morethis about it, there is no nonsense in here you just get in do your business and get out, you're not distracted by shiny newness or excessiveness. The only things they stock are cards and paper and string and sellotape, the kind of stuff you might need to post something! There are little counters around the edges of the small store for you to write your letter and lick your stamp, nothing fancy just practical. The people behind the counter look like they have been there for years too, not that they look old but more that they treat customers like you think you would have been treated a long time ago and this is a good thing!
Very helpful staff here! I had to make a couple of separate trips to ship my holiday goods back to…read morethe US, and they were quite nice about my various foibles, including an attempt to buy stamps with a laser card (which you can't do) and my pack-it-all-into-one-honkin-box tradition. Based on the recommendation of the nice woman behind the window, I repacked my gifts into several smaller boxes and saved a chunk of change. Bottom line: Ask for help, bring cash.
