It was too hot for pie
and mash at Manze's, so my wife and I tried Stiles Bakery and Café.
The café was spotlessly clean, staff very friendly and
professional (their coffee-making skills are second to none), and the
range of hot food, sandwiches, and baked goods is excellent.
My
wife and I ordered a tea, a coffee, a cheese omelette (with chips and
salad), and a wholemeal fruit scone (with jam and butter). The
omelette was freshly prepared, piping hot, and delicious; the scone
was baked on the premises and was, I'm told, also very tasty.
The
entire bill came to £10.10; yes, ten pounds and ten pence!
If
you're looking for soya milk frappuccinos, small dogs, and people
dressed like models from the Boden catalogue, then head for Upper
Street; if you like simple, honest food, down-to-earth clientèle,
and a bustling atmosphere, head for this place. At the very least,
lunch will cost you at least half of almost anywhere else in central
Islington. read more
