There was a lack of communication. I had two procedures done and then I was handed off to the next person which made sense but I sat in the waiting room and they didn't tell me that my next appointment wasn't gonna be for another 30 minutes with the next student. Yes it was lunchtime but I still should've been kept up to speed. My pedicure took way too long, the student was friendly but slow and did not do a good polish job. I was there 3 1/2 hours for 3 procedures. When I got to the front, the cashier, who I'm assuming wasn't a student but a coach, rang me up. Didn't say a word to me. Didn't look at me. There was no customer service like "how was everything?". The pedicure coach had already checked the work and asked me if I was satisfied but the person who is taking my money should definitely be thanking me. Overall summary: there was no urgency to anyone and it took way longer than it should have and almost everyone looked unhappy. The procedures I had were fine, would I go again yeah but I wouldn't do three things. I would only do just a pedicure/manicure or just a facial but not a bunch of stuff because it'll take too long. I know the students need to be careful but they also need to respect our time. Also no one asked if I wanted anything to drink or showed me where the restrooms were, etc., these are all expectations at a salon now so the students should be practicing this as well. read more

I went back to get my highlights redone since you could hardly tell that they were done on my regrowth. The instructor came out and kept talking about how they could only use 10 developer and how I would have to come back for multiple sessions for my highlight to go a couple of shades lighter than my natural dark blonde light brown hair. I HAVE NEVER had to go back to the salon to have my hair bleach a couple of shades lighter. Then the instructor was trying to convince me I am a medium brunette. I have light eyebrows and bleach blond arm and leg hair. I was getting frustrated because it should not be that hard to blend 2 to 3 inches of regrowth into my old highlight. In the end, I was told I would have to come back because they could not understand what I wanted. I WASTED my whole afternoon going here from Brookings and back. Unfortunately there isn't a 0-star option. If you're thinking about trying out Stewart's, rethink. I've heard they do a terrible job, but I never even got the chance to let them prove it. Due to weather, this "business" decided to open late. Did I know that? I would have if I had checked their social media, which apparently is the only way they know how to communicate. Apparently, it is now the customers' responsibility to know if the appointment they scheduled a month in advance is suddenly cancelled with no warning. Upon arriving to my appointment, I was told that my spot in their schedule no longer existed. According to the gal at the front desk, the spiky-haired snow-shoveler should have told me when I arrived at the proper time. But instead, I got to find out from her tattooed associate, after waiting for an hour, that I would be messing up their schedule if they actually provided the service that I had been promised. My wedding party and I were looking forward to our visit to the salon in May. I guess Stewart's will have to follow my social media to see if that one gets cancelled too. I love this salon. I also love getting to know the new stylists and estheticians-- of course there are people who shouldn't be there, but there are people who shouldn't go to college either. As far as all the people complaining about their "awful service"... SPEAK UP. They can't read your mind if you're unhappy! If I am unhappy about a service, I let them know, and they try their best to make it right. They are students... they are learning. I will continue to go back to Stewart School because it's honestly the only place I can afford where I know I will be treated right. read more

February 22, 2018 was my first time visit to the Stewart School. I asked for an ultimate facial for $30, that ended up being half price for getting it in the month of February. Caitlyn Jelsma, was the esthetician student who did my 75-minute facial. AH-MAZE-BALLS amazing. 24 hours after the facial, my face still felt extremely smooth and the lip exfoliation that was done, also left my lips feeling great. Caitlyn was so kind and sweet in explaining all of the processes she was doing too. I will return for future facials as well as the other services Stewart School has to offer. Terribly immature and snooty students. Customer service should be an important skill taught. On top of that, they misdiagnosed my daughter's dandruff as lice and won't let her come back until there's no more dandruff. She has eczema and dry scalp. I went home and washed out the loose dandruff. There was a lot. But it easily came out. I called Karma cline to have her take a look again but she refused to look at her hair and instead insisted I needed to treat her for lice. I won't medicate for lice since there's no lice. I work in education and am also very familiar with lice and how it looks. Im also familiar with my daughter's dandruff and dry skin issues. There is a difference. I explained that she might always have dandruff. I was told that I wouldn't be able to come back until there was nothing in her hair not even dandruff. That is the protocol, I was told. Karma continued to tell me that she believed it was lice yet she wouldn't let us show her the difference just after washing her hair. My daughter uses my brush and I don't have lice. Neither does anyone else in my household. They checked us too. If it was lice, we should all have it considering we share brushes and she falls asleep in our bed frequently. Anyway, the next day I took my daughter to a professional to have her hair done. We had no problems since she knew the difference between dandruff and lice. read more

Took my Niece for mani/pedi, a 1st manicure for both of us! The whole process from calling to get the salon hours to making the appointment, reception when we walked in throughout our time there was Awesome! The students that did our nails were sooo friendly and professional. Every person that worked or went to school there greeted us with a smile and hello when they walked by. I was pleasantly surprised to find out they were having a special that was half the price I had planned to pay! It's already a Great Deal! I've had many pedicures before, these ladies were just as good. If you're looking for pampering and don't want to break the bank give them a try! I was very disappointed in my experience here. I will never go back. The first time I was there from 11 to 2:30. I asked for my black hair to be dark brown. I was told it would be about 65.00. I left with 3 colors in my head & a 91.00 bill!! I looked awful!! Red, black, & maybe some brown. I went back for 4 more hours & it is still not totally right. Never ever again!! I have never written a review in my life but cannot keep quiet any longer. I was a standard every 6-8 week client of stewarts school so when the time came to color my hair right before my wedding I thought nothing of calling them. Here is where the problem was I made sure when I called I said to allow time for a full head of highlights not just a touchup. I got there and the coach was telling the student how to just tough it up for time. NO NO this was not what I asked for nor what I made the appointment for. Well I don't speak up much so I thought maybe it will be fine. It was not. 4 days before my wedding and my hair looked awful. Please understand I did not find any fault in the student this was not her fault. But when I called to complain they offered me to come back in AFTER my wedding how does this help me. School decided not to do an over the phone transaction for me because i was not able to stop in the store whle they had a special because they said my (2min) phone call that it would take to take my payment would hold up the line to make appointments for other customers...so i guess some customers are more important than others. after speaking to the salon director i have determined that they are very unprofessional and just plain stupid!!!
