HORRIBLE DELIVERY serviced!!! I ordered wine 3 different times from them. I gave them a landline to call if they couldn't find me. But I live in a house behind CVS on Compo Shopping center and gave them explicit details where I lived, 4B Whitney St. Ext. Each time the deliver man went back to Stews and said they couldn't find me. They never tried to call me.....They lied to the boss there and said they knocked on the door and callled.....The second time I ordered when the guy went back to Norwalk and came here again after I complained was in the parking lot of this regular sized middle class house and couldn't find the letter B a foot high on the door. He calls and says he can't find me. I go out side and say the first time you were near here and couldn't find me why didn't you call. He said, "my bad"......How come Stew's manager the first time didn't fix this problem or hire delivery people with higher IQs read more

Bought 2 bottles of the same Spanish Wine at Norwalk location. Both bottles had such dried out corks that when I went to open them the cork went right into the bottle. Took them back and the manager, Jason, copped an attitude to me. I thought their motto was the customer is always right. I guess not so anymore. Won't shop there again. read more

Went in to get some beer 7 minutes before closing on a Sunday. Manager was already closing the door and screaming at another man and me that we only had 2 minutes to purchase something because it was "the law". He said he had to check us out at 5:59 exactly. It took me about a minute to find the beer and get back to the register. I know the law. He did not need to scream impatiently and rudely at us. We had plenty of time to purchase something and get out before 6:00. He kept yelling, as did another clerk that "it's the law!"' I know the law. I've never been treated so poorly in all of my life as a customer. I will never go there again if this same manager is there. I've been to other placers a few minutes before closing and have NEVER been treated this way. I respect that he has a job and has to follow the law but I did NOTHING wrong and was truly trying to hurry. He should have done the same. He could have hurried us along without shouting and being so rude. read more

So they offer great wine and spirits at a great price and they brought in Colony Pizza for a customer appreciation day, enough said right? The staff members were friendly and I was politely asked multiple times if I needed help as I navigated around the store. The space is huge and there is plenty of room to explore and walk around. Despite being here on a busy Saturday afternoon in town, it never felt crowded. Parking is ample and this a great stop right after grabbing your groceries from across the street. Since I'm moving to the area next week, I think I will quickly become a regular. read more

I had a pretty rough time at this store. They have a great selection of beer and wine, but the service was not where I needed it. Went in trying to find a good cab and some sudz. Left with a bottle of bourbon which tbh I'm not upset about but I wish someone had helped me get what I want. When I walked in there wasn't anyone to help me out. I basically wanted to be sold. I left and there were crazy lines at the register and they weren't exactly friendly. Would much rather support my local wine shop than continue to go here. The selection is terrific and the price range varies from low to high which allows you to find a good wine at the price you would like to pay. However the star of this wine shop is Joanne. Helpful, pleasant, eager to help you and most of all Joanne knows her wines and will help you find what you want and not what costs the most. She and the entire shop are down to earth and most of all, completely trustworthy. When you see a " Joanne's recommendation tag " it certainly is worth looking at that wine. The 3 stars are only for the selection of wines and beers. How they treat their customers also is based on selection. Especially if the tone of your skin is not matching to theirs. I'm from CA and we do not have these stores there, but let me tell you, it's like DISNEYLAND in here! If you've been to Disneyland, it reminiscent of riding Thunder Mountain - animatronic animals playing instruments and singing throughout the store. The aisles wind around like a maze, start at the beginning and walk through every section before getting to the ready-made foods and finally the registers to check out. The store also has a petting zoo out front for kids and families to meet and greet a variety of animals, however, I did not get to experience this as it had just snowed in Norwalk and the animals were not out. They carry not only groceries, but also floral and life's necessities like wood and ice scrapers. There's fresh juice out front and an ice cream stand - apparently if you spend $100, you get free ice cream! I didn't quite spend $100 and didn't really want ice cream in 16 degree weather, but it's a cool little promotion! I rarely give 5 stars to any establishment, but this one has earned it. The service here is absolutely incredible. We came in here today for a couple of bottles of wine, and ended up having an impromptu wine tasting with an employee (owner?) I think his name was Caesar (or maybe not - I'm terrible at remembering names). The guy had no problem spending 20 minutes going through and finding us just what we wanted. He then gave us a 15% discount at checkout. This place has a great selection, and the employees go above and beyond to make their customers happy. read more

Stew's wine store has a good selection of beer and wine, but I really hate buying beer from them. Their employees aren't terribly friendly, and every time I go in I have a variation on the following conversation. Them: "Oh that's a neat beer. We got a bottle of beer in from Italy that's good." Me: "What kind is it?" Them: "It's brown." Me: "It's a brown ale? It's just brown colored? What's the name of it?" Them: "I dunno." Stew Leonard's has the most disrespectful manager I have ever experienced. As a 22 year old, I am of legal age to purchase alcohol. I am used to giving ID whenever I go to a liquor store or a bar, but I've never had a more embarrassing experience buying alcohol. The store manager kept bouncing me between different registers and when we eventually were settled I showed my ID. The manager was watching closely and before the cashier even got the chance to look up the manager, Cesare, rudely interrupted the transaction and kicked us out. I tried to ask what the issue was or if there was another liquor store that would serve me, as I am of age, but Cesare kept interrupting me. I got very flustered and embarrassed in front of everyone at the store. I walked out ashamed as Cesare laughed at me. I understand he has a right to refuse service as a manager, however I felt personally attacked and would not recommend anyone goes there if you regularly get asked for your ID. My go-to place for wine. I was just there today and picked up some great prices on some great Merlot. The staff is friendly and when I am there they are never intrusive, yet available for questions. They are so knowledgeable and have an incredible selection. Stews has the best meat, dairy and produce and they have the best wine selection, too! read more

Loved this place! Stopped during a road trip. Great selection of beers from all over. Nice wine selection with good prices. I especially liked "Weekends with Larry" which was a complete wine tasting. We picked two wines from that grouping. Also gave the sangria a try that was on tasting, which we loved. Anyway, beautiful big store and such friendly people. The location is convenient, right along route 1. But, the selection could use work, particularly the beer selection. If you want the basic macros or more popular craft beer like Dogfish or Thomas Hooker, you can find it here. But, they really need to work on casting a wider net of the craft beer that they carry. And even with spirits, selections of some options are limited. I recall only one option for Akvavit, which not a ton of people in CT drink, but a store like this should have options. And the other downside, is 3/4 of the employees do not have the proper knowledge of the products that they sell. read more

A decent large shop. A lot of private label wine. Nothing wrong with that, but they are generally getting that on the cheap for next to nothing. How can you tell it's private label? Google it and see if only Stew Leonard's shows up as carrying it. Still not open until 9pm early in the week, like other large shops are. I have mixed feelings about Stew Leonard's wine store. I like the large selection, the prices are reasonable and they layout is good. I like to try new wines and frequently rely on the rating systems of the Wine Spectator or Wine Advocate as a guide. Stew Leonard's provides labels with these rating on many of their bottles. But after closer examination, I often find that the year of the bottle available is different than the year of the wine that received a high rating. I asked one of the attendants about this and she said that sometimes they forget to update the label when they re-stock the shelves with new inventory. I am often suspicious of these explanations when the outcome benefits the proprietor. At the very least, the store should be more diligent about their labeling practices to assure that they don't mislead their customers. The year of a wine matters and after buying a few bottles that were not as advertised, I experienced the uncomfortable feeling of being duped. read more
