Aside from the huge crowds, Stew Leonard's is undoubtedly a phenomenal shopping experience. The wide selection of fresh produce, bakery goods, meats, seafood and wines cannot be duplicated. The variety of prepared foods is also one of their signature offerings. The only thing that seemed off today was the ambience. Feels weird to review a grocery store but this place was incredible. Unlike a traditional store where you aimlessly walk up and down aisles like a mindless zombie, this store is set up on a way that shopping winds through the store through various areas. It's like an adventure filled with seemingly fresh produce, multiple dine in opportunities and even an ice cream counter. It may sound sad or strange for a grocery store to be a "destination" but I'd definitely go out of my way to visit again. They also had a great liquor section with bottles that are some times hard to find. I signed up for the allocated bourbon raffle event as well. read more

Finally five stars because of Jackie! I've been trying to find Romanian wine here for a while. Romania is one of the world largest wine producers, and fifth largest among European wine countries after Italy, France, Spain, and Germany, providing the same quality( better in my opinion) but for a lower price .I found it a couple years ago around Halloween and then I was told repeatedly by another person that they don't have it and won't have it for some unknown reason. Well, things have changed when I met Jackie who was very helpful and took down my information, promising me she would call me when they will get a case. And she did! It's not large as CT Bev Mart, but Stew's Wine & Spirits has a great selection. With the smooth floor, it's the preferred, quieter place to visit during your trip to Stews. The wine selection is the star, complete with the occasional tastings by the entrance. A section of CT and NY State wines is found by boxed wines, a variety of bubblies are found all year, and individual size bottles catch your eye at the checkout. Beer and spirits might not be in the name but there is plenty, spirits as you enter, and beer in the back. On the shelf and in the cold case are all the standards and a few great local craft beers. The store is big , clean and organized with big inventory to choose from . Great selection of both wine and beer, many different whiskey ,tequila and vodka and more with choices for any budget! The selection of wine is limited since the store is not very large, but I found a decent number of Spanish wines that I had not tried previously. Prices seem about the same as the much larger nearby competitor, no doubt attributable to the state's minimum pricing statutes. There is a small discount available on the purchase of 6 bottles of wine with a price tag ending 8, but those seemed the least interesting. read more

All I have to say is this is the best idea to have this place next to the grocery store. I'm from California and I miss being able to buy alcohol when grocery shopping. This is the next best thing here in CT. I love the quality of the products here and I simply enjoy walking around sometimes sampling some sort of beverage and such (there's always a person there handing out one item at a time). There are lots of reasons why Stew Leonard's is such a great spot to have in Central CT, and one of those is that it has a really solid wine and spirit store attached to the grocery store. The store has a good selection of wine, beer, and other spirits, so it's an easy one-stop shop if you're looking to stock up or looking to purchase for an event. I'm usually looking for beer, wine, or bourbon, and Stew's has a decent number of choices at fair prices. I've picked up Bulleit and Buffalo Trace (two of my favorites) here for lower prices than at other stores. As a big supporter of craft beers, I'm especially pleased that Stew's carries a number of craft options (Founder's, Unibroue, Hooker, and Back East, among others). The selection isn't as large as some other stores, but is varied enough that you can get a good beer no matter your preference. They also sell Coors, Budweiser, and similar beers if you're not so much into craft brews. On all of my visits the staff has been very friendly and helpful, which isn't surprising since Stew's seems to encourage top notch customer service among its employees. Overall it's a good option, especially if you're already grocery shopping at Stew's. read more

Great selection of wine, liquor and beers i have no idea about. To the point that i am not really sure what to order or get from here. Suggestions are good but i feel like i don't know enough to ask for suggestions. There isn't a ton of people that work here so sometimes it is really hard to get what you need. Still i would choose this location over most places, they have sampler wine 6-packs and things like that that make the decision even easier to go with them. read more

More like 3.5 stars. They had coors light 30 pack for 19.99 all summer and fall. It is one of the best prices I've seen for coors light in the area. Now they just upped the price to 20.99, :(... They do seem to have a good selection of wines. They could use some more beer coolers. I hate buying warm beer. read more

Disappointed. Was excited to try the new cookie dough scoops and it was gross and also had a fly in it. The little bit that I tried made my stomach hurt, I do not recommend eating this. Went back in to show that I hardly touched it, and was not offered a refund. As a customer you would think my needs would be taken care of before stepping foot out of that store. The 3 stars are for the grocery store itself which is fantastic. They have great cheese, meat, produce, seafood, and bakery departments. However their prepared food area is overpriced and quite frankly seems like it was all prepared long ago and left to dry out on the steam table, not worth your dime. read more
