Garlic fries
Cece I.

This place has a lot of character and might not seem like a lot on the outside but is a homey and relaxed ambiance once inside. The staff was very kind and attentive. They even gave us some free rice pudding to try and checked on us as we ate lunch. Now for the food! You get a bang for your buck here, and portions are big. We started with the Mozzarella sticks and Buffalo wings. The Mozzarella sticks were very crispy and very well seasoned, they had an amazing cheese pull and paired perfectly with the marinara and the ranch served on the side. The wings were flavorful but did have a strong vinger taste, I really enjoyed them. We all got burgers and they were well seasoned and huge. They toasted the buns and had all the works. They do add mustard here, so if that's not your style, I recommend asking them to put it on the side. I ordered the garlic fries with mine, and my goodness they have to be the best garlic fries I've had in a long time. The onion rings were so good and fried to perfection We will definitely be coming back Service: 4.8 Food: 5.0 Ambiance: 4.5

Blt sandwich enough for 2.

This was a great surprise. We had fresh dinner salads that were big and tasty with fresh vegetables. We followed up with some steak with a generous veggies as well as potatoes and beans. I went lighter with a blt and was not dissapointed. The sourdough bread was crispy and the bacon was flavorful. It was also huge and I look forward to eating it for lunch tomorrow. My mom got a chicken fried steak with some of the best gravy I've had in a long time. The server was kind and even took the time to reminisce with my grandpa. I loved the little dog that greeted us as well. It felt authentic and not much does these days. I'll be back.

The only thing I regret about my visit is they don't have the chips and salsa they used to have in the bar area anymore. They said they haven't had it since covid. This visit happened to fall on Mother's Day weekend. We had reservations for both Saturday and Sunday, but we stopped in on Saturday to cancel that day's reservation since we'd already eaten lunch and knew we wouldn't be hungry by dinnertime. On Sunday, when we checked in for our reservation, I was impressed -- the hostess remembered us by name, which says a lot considering how many guests come through the restaurant. We were seated, and soon after we were greeted by Eleanor, our server. She was warm, attentive, and never made us feel pressured, which was a huge improvement from a previous visit. She answered every question I had, including how they cook a medium‑rare steak (every chef has their own interpretation, lol). She also gave an honest answer when I asked whether the vegetables used at dinner come from their greenhouse. The service felt genuine, and the food was excellent -- a much better experience than my last review. This visit was absolutely worth the return. Kudos to Eleanor and the Kitchen at The Mission.

We called about 20 mins in advance on our way from Casa de Fruta (where I could eat nothing). We'd never been there, always stopping for a pit-stop at Pea Soup Anderson's when going through that area. So first of all, the hotel grounds are beautiful, totally unexpected in this middle of nowhere hotel. The outdoor dining area for the restaurant is gorgeous and relaxing. The staff aware all polite and helpful. I had to wait a bit longer than expected but I grabbed the pizzas and took them to the car and was first of all shocked at how beautiful the pizza was. I got the California veggie pizza without mushrooms and added pepperoni, with gluten free crust. My husband got the same but not gluten free. This was one of the best gluten free pizzas I've EVER had. Everything as clearly freshly made. Amazing. Sad it's so far away from where I live! On the way out I checked out prices for the hotel...about 200 bucks a night. Totally reasonable. We'll be back here next time we're heading through this area!

Probably one of my favorite places to stop by when driving between Northern and Southern…read moreCalifornia. Being able to enjoy a full meal without completely extortionary prices is a rarity in today's world - and quite frankly if you want to get it in California, you probably need to get it driving up and down I-5. Not sure where else you can do it. The set menu is pretty simple. You pick your entree, say what side dishes you want, and they're off to the races with a full-course meal for you by providing family-style sides - namely salad, a lamb soup (fantastic!), baked beans, even a quick easy dessert at the end. Also, a house wine, which I honestly can't judge in terms of quality, but it certainly isn't /bad/ (ie, it's drinkable). As for my review, the main entrees I've had have generally been decent. I've had the tri-tip and the lamb chop and they both have come out decently seasoned, decently cooked. My thoughts on the side dishes: 1. The lamb soup is definitely the best. It's super flavorful, super tender, the meat really falls apart in your mouth. Honestly, the lamb soup might even be better than the actual lamb entrees. 2. The vegetable soup is basically just fine. It's nice and hearty, but honestly not super memorable (in either direction). 3. The salad is probably my least favorite entree simply because it always has too much dressing and is a bit too "rich" for my liking. I've actually found that it tastes pretty good though if you eat it on top of the bread. 4. Baked beans - basically hearty and good with the generous parmesan cheese they put over it. I'm a fan. My actual certified Gamer Pro-Tip is to toss tabasco sauce into it - it definitely balances out the parmesan better. 5. Potato salad - I don't actually think too memorable besides being adequate. Definitely filling. Anyways, the amount of food and diversity of dishes you get is crazy - and it's remarkably rare to see this kind of cuisine at this price point. Finally, there's honestly just not a lot of competition in the "places to eat driving up and down between Los Angeles and the Bay Area." If I had to think of any changes, I really just think they need slightly less dressing on the salad! No complaints otherwise!

Seating is family style so a great way to meet people. I ordered the tri tip and my friend ordered the baked chicken. It comes with a bottle of wine and all the sides. I LOVED the salad!!! So fresh and crispy. Homemade garlic ranch dressing. It was delicious. Bread was good and fresh. Ranch beans were yummy, a bit cold but still very tasty. French fries were old and cool. Didn't love those. They also serve lamb stew. I don't love lamb so I didn't try that. My friend did and he said it was really good (ate my portion too!) Our meat came and the tri tip was flavorful but over cooked and saturated in gravy. I would try again but ask for more rare and no gravy. Gravy wasn't bad, I don't like over sauced food. The baked chicken was very tasty and very farm to table like. Service was great. People were happy and conversing. Waiter was very attentive. The experience was good. I need to try again and see now that I know how it works if I can try something different! For sure get the salad though!!

Something I learned from the last time is that you can get your fried chicken 'buffalo dipped', which means after they freshly fry your chicken pieces, they dip it in buffalo sauce. This was a game changer! Some of the best fried chicken I've had and their buffalo sauce is the right amount of vinegar and spice. If you like anything buffalo, definitely try the fried chicken buffalo dipped. I think even their strips would be good this way. I ate the leftovers cold, and it was still hella good. On this day, they had a tuna melt special. Nothing special about it, but it's really good and simple. The fries were good as well, just needed a little more salt and pepper. We usually get the spicy chicken soup, but this time it was pretty mid, definitely better when you eat it there and not that great for takeout. Overall, definitely a staple whenever visiting the area because it's a simple yet affordable meal that hits the spot every time.

From traditional American breakfast to fried chicken dinner and literally everything in between. Some of my favorites are the spicy chicken soup (MUST TRY), tuna melt (when available), BLT, club, sweet potato fries, and fried chicken (duh). Food is made fresh, great quality, and isn't super greasy. Portion sizes are very large. You'll 100% get your money's worth! The spicy chicken soup is a signature menu item. It is absolutely unique and delicious. It's kind of hard to describe but I want to say it's like a crossover between chili and chicken tortilla soup? It's hearty and has a great spice combination filled with hominy, chicken, corn. I like to top mine off with tapatio and extra black pepper. Really, if you take anything from this review, just try this soup. This spot is your typical comfortable neighborhood diner. It feels homey and welcoming. Service is always super friendly. Most weekday mornings/early afternoons are slow enough, you can seat yourself. Weekends are jammed packed; they'll open the extra seating area. Their hours have varied a lot since the pandemic. I know they're open late on Thursdays. To be safe, I'll call before I stop by to make sure they're open. If you're driving down the 99, craving some diner food, skip Denny's and come straight here!
