You would need to travel far and wide to find a marine merchant with worse pricing and customer service. Their "sale" prices are often higher than other chandlers regular prices. They say they match prices, yet if you show them a price for the same item from elsewhere that is considerably lower in price, you are told that they won't match "that price". See an item on their website, go into the store to buy it only to find it priced higher, forget about getting it for the price on their website even when you show it to them, "I'm not taking a loss on it", (we're talking here of a price difference of about $10) and "...we've got 180,000 items on our website", is the response. A minute later the price on the website is deleted. Mistakes happen but when one employee says they will honour the web price only to have another over ride that decision it leaves a bad impression, more so when the second employee is unapologetic for the pricing error, and incredulous that one would question his decision. Want a fire extinguisher at 43% off, sure, it's now only a few dollars more than the regular price everywhere else. And, unbelievably, one they are selling on "sale" right now on their website was recalled by Kidde in 2017. Anyone who has one can return it to Kidde for a free replacement. That's downright dangerous that SM is still selling it, but presumably 5 years to figure it out isn't quite enough. read more

A local flavour of Steveston. Every small town has one and it's a much needed store as well. Sure go to the Cantire, but why go there when you can go here? Need stuff for your boat, for the house? Need some tools? Salt for the snow or buckets for the beach? If I recall you can also get your fishing license here too. The town sure aint Steveston without this place. read more

Pretty much a marine division of a Canadian Tire and Home Depot combined. Even saw calking products for those reno jobs on boats, it's possible. Thought their home mats are funny, as per pic. Not the world's most helpful service, almost like 'I leave you alone'. They do have more specialized products, like flashlights and cooking ware for boats. Hunting and fishing too. * Local hardware and fishing supplies * I'm not a big fan of the "Home Depotization" of hardware stores. Seems they are everywhere and the small local shops are disappearing. But this is a classic small town style hardware store with a big section of marine focus considering its location in Steveston. I haven't seen such a large collection of fishing lures, nets, rods, deep sea lines, etc. anyplace else in the Vancouver area. Staff is also really friendly. They have a lot of gadgety type tools that would make for a good gift for that gadget lover in your life too! read more

How great this store could be. The key word is could. They have a great selection, good location but are a little over priced on most items. The biggest deterrent for me is their surly staff. The customer comes last in this company's culture. I have seen them be rude, impatient and condescending to many customers. I shop here only when there is no other choice. read more

Called today looking for a part, originally expecting to spend $1,000-$1,500. I was transferred to the marine department, where I quickly explained my project and gave the part number of the old part I was replacing. Robin told me I should do more research online and call back when I knew exactly what I wanted. I asked if he could offer any advice, and received this reply: "does it look like I'm on your boat right now? How would I know?". I was surprised and asked Robin what his role was at the company, and was told he is the vice president. Disappointing Robin, hopefully the rest of your staff doesn't follow your example of customer service. I think I'll be looking for my parts elsewhere. read more

In store the service is pretty good and the staff knowledgeable. Online ordering the service is simply abysmal. I would never order a product online from here again. No follow up, no communication just an order sitting in pending for weeks now. It wouldn't have even made it to pending status if I hadn't called to see why nothing appeared t be happening. I ordered a part on May 10th. I was told it would be in in one week. I phoned 10 days later and was rudely told that "we'll call you when it comes in". I let it go. Today, 20 days later, I called again because I need the part on Friday. I was told my part is back ordered and probably won't in for two weeks. This company has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. They are rude, I dealt with three different employees from the Langley store. They are unorganized, the employee who took my order wrote it down on a piece of paper, left it on the counter and walked away. I have no confidence he actually ordered it the first time. And from the reviews I see here they don't seem to care about changing their customer service. I like to shop local. Steveston Marine will not get my money or any recommendation from me. Hey Steveston Marine, I ordered the part on line today, Tuesday and it's getting delivered Thursday. I have to pay $4.00 for shipping but the cost of the part is less. read more

A Richmond landmark that has served the fishing and recreational boating trades for decades. I've never had a bad experience with them and have gone there regularly over the last 30 years. Now closed in Steveston and have opened up on River Road in North Richmond, next to the Boathouse restaurant at Vancouver Marina. Very convenient for me as it's just a 30-second walk to my boat, which saves a lot of driving. The staff have been very helpful to me at both (now one) locations, always willing to take the time to find obscure boat parts, stainless bolts, and whatever I am looking for. The focus at the River Road location is strictly on boating rather than the boating/fishing/home inventory they used to carry at the Moncton Street location. A special shout-out to Sumit at the cash register, who handles my purchases with good humour on every occasion. read more

It's not a fancy place nor does it want or try to be. It looks like you're on a boat only you buy marine specific stuff for your boat and fishing. It is a very manly store. The customer service seemed non existent as everyone was engaged in more important calls and customers that were industry specific. This was personally fine as I was browsing. I came in here 'cause the yellow rain suit that I used to own blew away with the wind and I was looking for a cheap replacement. I found an identical suit for $10 = sweet deal. read more

They act like you are an idiot if you have a question until you show them that you actually know something about boats and then they act like assholes who are too busy to help you. Seems like most of the staff sits on the computer all day. And altho guy they claim to price match, I have yet to see that happen and they wouldn't explain to me how this happens. They won't have much of any sort of selection of a product. They have a million different items but no selection of any one thing. Instead of buying what I needed online I went to Steveston Marine and told them what I needed. They made a suggestion, i bought it and found that the product does not do what I need it to do. After some investigating I found that the specs on the product do not match what I was looking for. So, if I had done my own research and did not rely on advice from people at Steveston Marine I wouldn't have purchased the product in the first place. I thought I could rely on their expertise. When I found out that the product did not work I made contact with the store several times (one time in person). The owner was going to contact me to resolve the issue. Several weeks later I still haven't heard from him. I believe they really don't care. I'm not sure the point of going to a store for advice when it's incorrect. Online service is terrible. Ordered an inflatable kayak to ship to Edmonton. Website says orders ship in 5 days but it took 14 days to ship with no contact to notify me of delay. Website said "free shipping" but cheapest option was about $50 - then a few days later the same kayak showed with free shipping when a friend looked. Requested shipping by Canada Post to deliver to our door or pickup at nearby outlet but store sent by Greyhound which is not at all convenient for us to get to. Finally, I wrote a note of concern to their customer service but haven't heard a thing after 2 weeks. While we did get the kayak finally, we bought another one through a different store because the service here is lacking. read more

I went in to Steveston Marine looking for a part for my boat. They did not have the part, but the guy looked it up in catalog and ordered it for me. Great I thought. He said it would be in next day at 1:30 and the store would call me. Great..again I thought. Next day no call at 1:30..but that's ok I waited till 3:00...still no call from store. I decided to call store. Man on phone said all orders had arrived and there was no record that I even ordered part? I got pissed and told him forget it. I found the part somewhere else ( at about 60% cheaper than quoted) 5 days later the guy from Steveston Marine calls and tells me my part is in! I told him shove it, and that he never ordered it when he said he did. He got all rude and abusive on phone and said "the part was here and you never came to get it"...I will never again walk in their doors. read more

This business was absolutely disappointing. I called the store to find out what time they closed on a Friday afternoon and the clerk said 530pm, 15 minutes. I arrived at the front door at 525pm looking to buy a marine map. I knew exactly which map I needed and had my payment ready to go (cash, debit, credit, whatever worked easiest for them). The gates were locked and I spent 5 minutes knocking. When the sales staff came out the door at 528pm, they advised me that they had closed down. They then suggested I speak with the manager Richard. I called out and asked if I could quickly purchase my map. He said no, and proceeded to tell me it was 530pm and that they were closed. I asked him politely several more times if he could ring it up for me as I was planning my trip. He eventually must have felt threatened or didn't want my business as he came barreling out from behind his counter to close the gate on me. The time it took him and his staff to tell me no, I could have purchased the map, been out the door, and down the street for Greek food at Kisamos. Ended up going to Vancouver Marina instead - they had the map and they were open for business. Thanks for nothing. read more
