How can I thank Steve enough? I was taking statistics AND calculus last quarter. That may sound like a dumb idea given I suck at math and haven't had a math class in several years. So I went to the tutoring center at school. What a waste of time. Nobody knew what they were talking about let alone how to teach. Then I tried two other tutors. One charged like $150 / hour and another was like super cheap. Both were horrible. Neither one knew the material. Waste of time AND money. One showed up like an hour late. The other one seemed like a nice person, but he had no clue what was going on with either subject. Then I talked with a friend of mine and she recommended I try Steve. He helped her with the GMAT or GRE or something and some other math stuff. WOW, WHAT A DIFFERENCE! This guy really knew what he was talking about right off the bat. Let me tell you how it went. First I called and left a message. I knew he was going to be hard to get a hold of because I was told ahead of time that this guy is totally booked with clients. He called me back the same day and he sounded like a cool guy. He wanted o know what areas I needed help in, what I understood already, etc. We set up an appointment time and location and he said he'd email me. Right away I got an email from Steve. It was totally thorough. It described his philosophy on teaching and he told me everything I needed to bring and he confirmed the time and place. You can tell Steve has over 20 years of tutoring experience. I didn't get anything like this from the other tutors. I was still a little skeptical (after all, this guy has to be too good to be true, right?). Right away, Steve answered the most important questions I had which were killing me. I had spent HOURS trying to solve what I assumed were problems with my book. Steve solved the problems and EXPLAINED how I can do that in the future. Anyway, I ended up with 2 A's thanks to Steve. He raised my GPA and he was WORTH EVERY PENNY I paid him. (He charged in between the other two tutor's prices). In fact, he was worth twice what he charges, but I wouldn't tell him that until you are done with your class or whatever he's tutoring you for. I would HIGHLY recommend stevestutoring to anyone. After my first horrible experience taking the GMAT, I decided that I needed a tutor to help me with the quantitative section. I realized that I really lacked a fundamental understanding of the concepts that were being tested. I not only wanted a tutor that was going to help me with these very basic concepts, but I also wanted someone who would be patient and willing to endure my "stupid" math questions. At our first meeting, Steve gave me a diagnostic test to determine my weaknesses (which in fact, was everything!) After that, we met 1-2 times a week to go over question sets that he would assign to me for homework. Our earlier sessions were comprised of a lot of instruction on various concepts and a lot of question-asking on my part. As our sessions have progressed, my understanding of GMAT quant. concepts has really increased. I am currently able to answer many of the more difficult problems correctly, something I honestly really never thought I would be able to do. Steve has definitely helped me understand many things about math that I never knew before! We are still in the process of meeting, but our next step will be to work on speed and honing my skills. No matter what your skill level is, Steve will lay out a detailed study plan to help you achieve your goals. While he mostly focuses on math, he also does verbal tutoring; he has been helping me with that as well. My personal goal is to get into a top ranked business school; we are targeting a score of over 700 for me. I believe Steve has given me the tools and instruction to get me to this goal. Instruction is not the only ingredient, however. You will need to put in the work to see the results. I really can't say enough good things about Steve. He is a very patient, engaging, motivating, and not to forget, brilliant person (he has actually been tutoring since he was 16!) The amount of instruction he gives exceeds what you would get taking Kaplan or Princeton Review, and thus is a much better value! Steve is a very kind, courteous and excellent tutor! I sought out his services for help with Calculus 11 and 12 during this past summer session at Santa Clara University. I had a horrible time with calculus in high school (I got a C!) as well as with Calculus 11 in college (C Again!) I audited Calculus 11 during the summer, followed by Calculus 12 for a grade, and asked Steve for help with both of those classes. At our first meeting, Steve asked me about the subject areas in Calculus and even previous math classes I felt weak in, and gave me a diagnostic test! That alone helped clear up some misconceptions I had had for a long time. Steve greatly helped me understand concepts from Calculus 11 that I had never clearly understood! He took the time to explain confusing examples from the book, and even assigned some of his own practice problems to make sure I really understood basic concepts. As Calculus 12 rolled around, Steve continued to be kind and explained difficult concepts to me. He was very understanding of personal problems that cropped up and tried to be flexible with scheduling. He even gave me a free 1 hour session when he realized there were some subject areas from Calculus 12 I was really confused about since I would be asked about them on a midterm a few days later! I am happy to report that I got A's on my midterm and final exam, and I got A's on nearly all of my homework assignments and quizzes, resulting in a solid A in my Calculus 12 class! Steve has a real knack for demystifying and simplifying confusing concepts from Calculus and explaining them in an easy to understand way. I can't thank Steve enough for the awesome tutoring he gave me!!! I came to him for help with math (quantatative) & English (verbal) because I want to take the GRE and the GMAT. I know, you must think I'm crazy to do both tests, but I want to get into grad school and I'm not sure what I want to do yet. Steve was totally cool about this. He just said "No problem" and organized a system for both classes. He mostly tutors Stanford University and high school students in Calculus, Statistics and SAT out of this location. (And other GRE and GMAT students). We could have met in Fremont, too, but I liked getting out of Fremont and heading over to University Ave. Now I have to admit, I was a little skeptical at first. He's not cheap and he met me at restaurants all over the place for a lunch / tutoring session. We met at Cascal, Old Port Lobster Shack, The Counter, Papas, Patxi's, Starbucks, Peet's - whew! I guess he doesn't work out of his office too much because we only met there one time. Sometimes he even treated me to food or coffee (because he's really sweet). Now you might be wondering how we got any work done. Well, it turns out it's actually a pretty intense session. He evaluated where I was first and then honed in on exactly what my needs were. Steve is a great GMAT & GRE tutor. On the GMAT, I started in the low 500s and ended up with a 720. Steve helped me with both the math (Quantatative), and English (Verbal) sections. He was very patient and worked on Algebra & Geometry and then we moved into a variety of GMAT quant questions. We followed with data sufficiency. Then we attacked the sentence correction, critical reasoning & reading comprehension sections. I met with Steve after taking Kaplan & spending a lot of money on the Manhattan GMAT & Veritas books. They were all just ok. It's a totally different experience with Steve. Much better bang for your buck. He's not cheap, but he's worth every cent. Check the filtered reviews as well. I agree with most of what others are saying. I'm going to use Steve's services for Statistics & Calculus as well. The admissions people at Santa Clara (Leavey) and UC Berkeley (Haas) both said I'll need to take those. The only drawback would be that Steve is hard to get as a tutor depending on when you call. Steve is a really amazing Tutor. I would not have passed Statistics if it were not for him. I went to my first tutoring session with him the day before a midterm, and I was completely clueless. The next day I pulled off a 78. That's after TWO afters with Steve. I continued to study with him, and ended up not only passing the class, but getting a 95% on my final! I failed Algebra 3 in high school! Over 80% of my Statistics class either dropped out or failed, but Steve helped me get through! Steve was very professional and helpful. He was always on time for sessions, and would text me before a session as a reminder. He would also follow up after an exam to see how I did. He was always flexible with his schedule and location, and would go out of his way to help you if you needed it. His per-hour rates are a little higher than some of the other Tutors in the Bay Area, but you'll get MUCH more done in MUCH less time, so in the end it's actually significantly cheaper. How can a tutor who can impart a lesson in math really spark the internal drive in a student to succeed and overachieve ? That was my question when I went looking for a math tutor for my son who was struggling in Pre-Cal AP in the 11th grade.... My criteria was to look for passion, attitude and skill... ok. so it's like this. you can spend lots of time beating your head bloody against a wall trying to get your studying done. u can also spend lots of moolah on retaking a class. OR u can call mr wonderful awesome steve tutorman and all of your problems go away. duh. this guy has like 20 years of tutoring experience. whatever your issue, I think he's been there, done that. don't procrastinate. he took me from a D to an A at Ohlone for statistics. he actually saved me a lotta money cuz another guy tutored my friend and required many more sessions. she paid less per hour with her tutor but had to go to three times as many sessions. read more

Steve is incredible! He's bright, patient, and has a way of explaining Statistics and test taking strategies that have been the edge I needed. The tutoring sessions have been time well spent. As someone who has been a good student (I got into Stanford), I had to finally admit I needed a more efficient way to tackle math (I'm an English guy). A Stanford prof recommended Steve because he had heard about Steve's services from several other students. Steve was great. He saved me a lot of time when getting me up to speed for the GRE. I just took it and scored in the 1500s. I know he tutors High School and College math as well. FANTASTIC! Our Daughter is a very smart student. For some reason, this year, her math scores weren't what they should be. Her Algebra was weak from before, affecting her pre-calculus. We wanted a tutor originally to help her in SAT. Steve has been helping with both SAT and pre-calculus and is very good. He has cleared up many geometry and algebra problems from earlier. I'm quite happy with the math tutoring I got from Steve. He is a very helpful tutor for both math and English for the GMAT and GRE. I wanted to take both tests and I didn't know where to turn. I had taken prideful review for the GRE and had looked at Kaplan. I also took a review course with Manhattan GMAT and didn't feel ready. Steve helped fill in the gaps. I've never excelled at math, until I started working with Steve. When I took Trig as a prerequisite for Calculus, I was in a class of 30+ people, by the end of the quarter, there were 6 left. Steve is the best tutor ever! He helped me SO much with Statistics and Calculus! I got his name from my friend who was taking Steve's GMAT/GRE class.
