The selection is good on long guns but they are often higher than other gun shops. The ammo is always lean and overpriced. I come in a few times a year hoping to make a purchase but even if they have what I want at a price I feel is fair they often lose the sale because the staff is kind of rude unless you're a local buddy and often treat you like you're interrupting their coffee break. It is common to see them sitting around, half working while carrying on long personal conversations with their friends who seem to hang out in the store. Ask for assistance and they will do the bare minimum to help you out. Of the dozen times I have come in I have always struggled to get anyone to assist me and when I ask they treat me with contempt, giving one-syllable answers and acting like they can't wait for me to leave. So I did leave and made a purchase somewhere else. I was in the store for 40 minutes this last time and no one approached me or asked if I needed anything. Some people like that and I was ok with the inattention too. It should have been clear I was comparing a couple of rifles and I kept looking around for help to make a sale but no one bothered to approach me. They should have been in tune enough to see I was looking at details enough that I had a real interest. When I went to the counter (once again I had to stand there awhile as the guy working was chatting up some guy who had been standing there talking since I came in and not about guns). Once I got a chance to ask for some service it was clear I was an interloper and not really welcome. I had a few questions to focus on my intended purchase but could not get complete sentences out of the guy who one minute early could not stop talking with his buddy. I don't know if this was Steve or if there is a Steve but this place could really use some customer service training. I ended up leaving, driving down Main St, to another gun shop, and making a purchase from them. They did bother to answer my questions, demonstrated the features of the product, and then up-sold me on a better rifle that costs more than I had intended to spend because they took the time to explain the features and benefits of the better option. Once again Steve lost another sale to me and any follow-up sales as I start accessorizing this rifle. As others have said in their reviews, the store has a great selection and lots of hard-to-find add-ons. But poor customer service. read more

My step son found a scope on the clearance table that read 50% off. Price said $49.95 so thinking it would be $25 he took it up to pay. First guy was nice but had issue scanning it. Cue second guy who was rude, pushy and shady. Pushed the 16 year old kid into paying the $50.00. Original price was higher or something. I only caught the end of the exchange. After leaving I heard the rest. So a pricing misunderstanding I can understand. The rude comments and being pushy, uncalled for. But we could have misunderstood the tone so I can let that go. But the scope was junk. Cheap knockoff, that you can't even look through. The kid was excited because he thought he found a deal. I covered the extra money because I guess I should have paid better attention. I've been to lots of gun stores and bought lots of guns. I got good deals, and okay deals and I've paid too much. But I have never been to a gun store that took advantage of a 16 year old kid. It's not the money it's the principal. And the principle of the money. And the junk scope. This place has a nice selection of weapons and ammo. Trying to get anyone to acknowledge you in the store is the issue. Unless you physically go and find help none will be offered. Ive been here multiple times where I can't get one employee to say a word. Most likely won't be going back. read more

Looks like everyone else had a GREAT experience years ago. But I've been there probably five times in the last few months. True the staff SEEMS knowable mostly there full of S***!! People need to understand that just because someone talks a lot doesn't mean they know what they're talking about. I have found that Steve's Trading Post is very high on everything. Shopping around will truly save you money. Not to mention the huge German Shepard inside the store. In my quest for fire arms I have bought a S&W MP Sport AR15 for $499. and a Ruger 1022 take down for $300. I can tell you that Razors Edge, Academy, Walmart, anywhere is going to save you money. Forget the know it all's and save dollars! And BTW. ALL SALES ARE FINAL!!!! read more

Very good place to go. They have a great selection. They also have great customer service and are very knowledgable and helpful. I did have to take one star away (although I hated to) because of their prices. Watch the pricing and know exactly what you are buying and its actual value. I purchased one idem from them several years ago that was a great deal for me. I also did my due diligence and passes on one idem they were selling used that Academy Sports had new for less money than the exact same used idem at Steve's. As long as you do your own research and make informed decisions, Steve's is a really good place with a lot of value and good deals. read more

Every purchase has been a great experience! On at least 2 different occasions it's the only place we could find the guns we had been trying to locate for awhile. Went here because it is practically the only gun shop in the area. Been wanting to get a M1911 for a while now. This store has plenty of them! It also has racks full of various styles of guns. Who knew there could be so many guns?!! But it can be overwhelming if you do not know what you are wanting. Take your time when coming here and do not be afraid to ask questions. The staff seemed to know the history on all of their guns in the shop. read more

Ordered a one piece cleaning rod and after many weeks of not hearing the order status I called Steve's to check on the order. They said the rod had not arrived. A while later I called again and still not there; they double checked and found they put my rod out in their store sales inventory. Went to Steve's to purchase the rod before someone else bought it from under me. The first time I used the rod I noticed it had a bend in it and when I called Steve's to tell them my $30 rod was bent. They told me it was my problem and they would not exchange the bend rod for a straight one. Steve's isn't the cheapest place to shop which is okay if you get good customer service but higher prices with horrible customer service is not a reason to shop at Steve's. read more
