Stevensen's Landscaping has performed two different projects for me and I have been very pleased. First project was a front yard, "start from scratch" a blank slate so to speak with absolutely no landscaping. I met with a designer first who mapped out cement steps, and beautiful and natural plants scattered throughout the front with a river rock bed. Included a few mounds and boulders. Also was a beautiful arbor that was made and fencing around certain areas of the front yard. I had never worked with a landscaper before, so the only caveat I would say is be sure you are aware of all of the expenses because they add up very quickly. It was a major sticker shock situation. Second project was to build a patio out of existing stone pavers with artificial grass in between for a beautiful design. This project took much longer than anticipated because the wrong size turf was ordered, which was quickly remedied; they did not hold me responsible. What was unanticipated was the tedious job of ensuring the turf was nailed down. The guys on the job were meticulous in ensuring everything was measured and leveled perfectly. With that said, it was another situation of many manpower hours that were not expected. I understand that once a project gets started, it is often unpredictable how it's going to turn out and this was the case here. I am currently in the midst of getting another estimate from Stevensen's Landscaping so I'm sure that tells you that they do great work. Just pay attention all the details of your job and make sure you go in with your eyes wide open. read more

We are so happy with our once in a lifetime project! Stevenson built the pergola and arbor, installed the faux grass, DG, fountain and all the plants and irrigation. Also not shown here are to fences with gates. I was happy with how fair the price was, how responsive they are and how hard the crew works. Stevenson landscaping is amazing. They helped us extend our backyard space this summer by adding turf, rock, and fencing. It was not an easy task because the ground they had to dig was basically rock. Francisco, Melvin, and Gustavo checked in with us every step of the way to make sure they made our fencing, patio, and turf measurements to our liking. David also made some really great suggestions to elevate our vision and the project turned out better than we imagined. Our puppy loved getting pets from the guys and loves the new yard. David Stevenson and his awesome team just completed my backyard landscape with: A new fence, large patio arbor, grass installation, new plants, mahogany ground cover, flagstone pavers, DCG pathways, pruning of trees, raised vegetable garden planter box, path lights and up lights, and major cleanups along the way of debris. The crew, especially team leader Tomas, showed up at 7:30am every morning with full energy and a positive "can do" attitude. I appreciated the maticulous care they took each afternoon to clean up the work site. Super great guys to work with and David is the ultimate professional contractor! I'm sure David and his team do fine work, but unfortunately, he runs his business with no sense of professionalism. After meeting with him, it has taken two site visits and weeks of him saying he's working on a quote, only to be told he isn't able to work with us. He has been incredibly evasive, tells us yes he'll do it one week, no he won't the next. I can't imagine actually counting on him to deliver something when and how he promised. He wasted a month of our time, with decisions made based on his words that will take money and time to change. Unfortunately I cannot recommend working with David. He's got too much on his plate, and just doesn't know how to communicate clearly. read more

We had an island bed dug up and re-planted. Two of the three perennial grasses they planted did not come back after a single (mild) winter. When I informed the owner, instead of "how can I make this right?" I got "we don't warranty perennials because they don't always come back." Basically, "go pound sand" (which is probably not warranted against pounding either). This was an expensive installation and their refusal to stand behind their work is very disappointing. The other plants in the bed came back, so it wasn't anything we did or failed to do. Caveat emptor. read more

We are happy we found this reasonable, responsive, fairly priced licensed contractor. In two visits, David's crew put up one tall, redwood, fifty foot long fence in our backyard to match the two adjoining fences. It's the right height, the right style and the right price. It looks great. read more

These "mow and blowers" were hired to help us clean up our yard. They've shown up a few times but barely stay 20 minutes and in that time supposedly blow the leaves in our front yard, yet there are still redwood leaves allover the yard. They don't even touch our large backyard that they agreed to help us clean up. $125 every other week! Shameful ;( read more

It is so difficult to find a landscape service that works independently, tending to all the needs of a garden. I live in the Santa Cruz mountains, so we have a rather large area, but most of is covered by tan bark, rock and natural grass which just gets mowed and nothing else. There are a few cultivated areas, which comprise a smaller space than a normal city lot. I hired Stevensons Landscaping about 9 months ago. His team did some plantings for me in one small area, plus lighting and irrigation. I told him that I was looking for a service that would come regularly to do more than just mow and blow. I needed someone who would fertilize, prune, spray, tend the irrigation and look at each area of the garden to make sure the plants were healthy. David claimed that would happen. We agreed upon $100 per visit and two gardeners were going to come for at least 90 minutes. Through the summer we were gone a lot so I never saw what the workers were doing. One day however I noticed they were packing up after 60 minutes and asked why they weren't staying 90. "because David said we shouldn't work here more than 60". I phoned David who said he had to charge for travel time, so that was where the 30 minutes went. I said that was unacceptable and he agreed not to include travel time. Fast forward a few months after not monitoring the work and they left after 50 minutes. I also had a few frustrating discussions with Francisco, who acted vague and didn't answer any of my questions about the irrigation. I asked him to check the settings, but he never made any effort to do so. So I was paying more than $50 per hour each to two mow and blow guys who had to be asked several times to do anything else than that. Yes, they were neat and good at the mow and blow, but I had to let them go. Too expensive and not thorough enough, due to inadequate time spent. read more

Stevenson's Landscaping has been a company that we have relied on for the past 7 years to perform yard maintenance and new installations. Years ago, a friend recommended David's company and we decided to hire them to prune some large shrubs and trees and to remove some dead plants. I appreciate David so much. He is prompt and very thorough when he quotes. He gives good suggestions and knows some of the potential problems that can arise with particular plants or hard scape ideas. When I ask about different ideas, he has the approximate prices handy so I know almost immediately if the idea is something we want to pursue. David's crew is prompt, hard working, polite, professional and they clean up after themselves. We have had David and the crew perform two separate installations. The first one about 4 years ago consisted of new concrete, new drip system, large arbor and new plants. We replaced a lawn and play structure with a sitting area and fire pit. My husband and I took quite awhile to agree on the final design and David never showed signs of impatience with us. The second installation was finished last week. We replaced lawn and a trampoline with a sitting area, fountain, large boulders (for seating), decomposed granite path, new drip system and new plants. During the design process, we decided we wanted large boulders to sit on. David was able to tell us the constraints his crew would have with the equipment in bringing the boulders into our backyard. Part of the design called for 15 gallon plants. When the landscaper delivered, they provided only 5 gallon plants. We wanted bigger plants to hide an unsightly area and were having a backyard party a week later. David made it a point to make another choice and get us the 15 gallon plants delivered and installed the morning of our son's graduation party which started in the afternoon. That's how David is, considerate and efficient. It is such a pleasure working with a company that knows exactly what they are doing. We are so incredibly pleased with our installations and our maintenance. Thank you to David and your great crew. read more

These guys have done multiple jobs for me. They have done maintenance, too. They're OK if it's just maintenance. You could hire a school kid for less though. Here's the problem: His work on contracting jobs was always B-, but he was cheap. You could have him do the pieces that only needed B- quality and then make the rest perfect. He's great at lavender, geraniums, and crape myrtle. If you just need a few plants replaced or a "spruce up," then maybe he's OK No on to the problem: Makes mistakes and then wants to charge to fix them. Uses lower grade materials than promised (and then leaves you to deal with redoing the job). Workmanship on the irrigation and lighting is just bad. (Had to be re done) Wait that's "problems"; nice guy, but beware: those good feelings you have, they're short-lived. read more

We just had Stevenson Landscaping complete an entire landscaping of our 1/4 acre yard, at our home in the San Lorenzo Valley. I had 5 companies bid on the project and here is why we chose Stevenson Landscaping. 1-Mr. Stevenson "listened" to us and our concerns. Unfortunately a simple request but unfortunately not many companies could provide. They wanted to talk more than listen. 2- He was prompt in his response and his bid to us. 3-Mr. Stevenson was thorough is his bid and was also realistic about what his staff could do. 4-He was accurate and realistic about our start date, the time it took to do the job, and the completion of the job. 5- He didn't nickel and dime us to death. He gave us an accurate bid reflecting the plans and was conscientious that we were on a VERY tight budget and didn't want any hidden costs or expenses. Any changes that were made were in consideration of our budget and we agreed too. He didn't "surprise" us with any expenses. 6- Our landscape project turned out perfect It's exactly what we wanted and then some. We have people in the neighborhood commenting on how beautiful our property is now. He installed rock walls, stamped and colored concrete walkways and pads, grass, irrigation, grading, steps, and so many plants! 7- Mr. Stevenson brought a nice balance to our existing plans and was able to come up with some even better ideas about walls, stair placement, plant and planting suggestions. He really took great pride in transforming our dirt lot into a beautiful property. We really can't recommend Mr. Stevenson and his workers enough. Thomas, Heme, Alex, and William worked their tails off and always had a smile on their face and dropped whatever they were doing to answer any questions I had. David and his team just finished our project. We couldn't be happier. We have a sloped yard in the Santa Cruz mountains. The team fenced the yard for the dogs. The fence is beautiful. We went with wood. The team excavated our side yard, added a beautiful retaining wall and provided us with ample space for barbecuing and relaxing. They installed stairs to the bottom of the slope as well. Everything is secure and looks great. We had three bids and went with David because of his enthusiasm for the space. You can tell he loves the mountains and has excellent knowledge of the terrain. I would not hesitate doing business with him in the future. read more

Change was made by one neighbor & never agreed to by other, yet Stevenson made the changes & did not reduce the price. Questionably business ethics, I would not use them again. David is a professional He really knows his plants well. We were redoing our entire front yard, and kind of knew what we wanted. David was able to embellish on our plans and help us come up with the perfect front yard. We had to make some changes along the way, and his crew was more than happy to do what WE wanted done. The yard looks great, and we couldn't be happier. The only down side to the project was that his crew did not protect the wet concrete work they worked so hard on and it got slightly damaged overnight after it was poured -- but they worked harder to minimize what it looks like and now we don't even see it. David also has a great eye for color combinations of plants and what works well together. read more

Great company to do business with! I had Stevenson's do a very large project for me that I couldn't be more pleased with! The owner was knowledgeable and adept at orchestrating all phases of the construction. This is not the usual landscape company. They do expert work installing irrigation, walkways, fencing, lighting, special concrete work. Gazebos and ,of course planting the right plant in the right spot! Their work is artistic and when finished creates a more peaceful, pleasing atmosphere. I found the owner very professional, flexible to work with and I also found his employees diligent and comfortable to have on my property. After my acquaintance with their construction work I now hire this company to do regular maintenance to keep my investment always looking great. I find them dependable and attentive to addressing things needing to be done that I wouldn't have realized had they not been there.
