Waiting for Dr. Chandler. I'm convinced Percy can read. :)
    Rochelle M.

Dr. Pope was our vet when she had an office in Castaic (Golden State Veterinary Care). She and her staff took great care of our little Grizzlie until she passed away from bladder cancer. About a year later, we brought our new Frenchie pups to start their care with Dr. Pope. At 8 weeks old Percy developed an eye condition that required specialized surgery. She referred us to Animal Vision Care & Surgical Center where Dr. McNabb and her wonderful team performed the surgery and took amazing care of our little guy. Unfortunately, Golden State Vet closed shortly after, but we were notified that our records were being transferred to Stevenson Ranch Veterinary Center. Simply out of convenience, we started going elsewhere. Fast forward years later we noticed a lump under Percy's jaw. I had to bring him back to Dr. Pope's office. I called SRVC who got him in on the same day with Dr. Chandler. As a very worried pet Mom, everyone was so sweet and made sure I was informed at every step of his care. Dr. Chandler was awesome. After examining Percy, she took the time to explain what the issue may be, and the options involved in each one. After trying to aspirate the area with a needle, she determined it was most likely an abscess from an infection. He was prescribed antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. The Vet Assistant went over the instructions in detail. I then got a call a few days later to make sure the meds were working, and Percy was doing well. Fantastic experience -- From this point on, Percy and Maggie will only go to SRVC.

I'm beyond upset with this place. My pets have been coming here since 2018 and they just lost my business because they overcharged me. I have 4 pets, one with ongoing care due to his diabetes, so this is a LOT of business lost. All because of $200. I understand that things happen and there are price discrepancies. That's why I ask for a quote/estimate before any big $ procedure. The estimate gives me the low and high for what I should expect. Apparently not today though. After I brought one of my cats in for his exam and his teeth were examined we decided a dental procedure including extractions was necessary. I asked for a detailed estimate before booking and then gave a $250 deposit. Today was his procedure. When I picked him up, the bill was $200+ over the high of the estimate. I explained that this was not ok as I specifically asked for an estimate to avoid this AND was given both the low and high to have realistic expectations. After making me (and my cat) wait, I was offered a minimal discount which was still over the highest amount on the estimate. When I said that I hadn't agreed to that and I signed the estimate where I agreed to the quoted prices (and here's why I'm never coming back) I was told that if I only paid the high estimate they would send the balance to collections. The balance of less than $300. I have 4 pets. Four. Two of which are young dogs with years of visits and care. My other cat has ongoing vet needs so we are constantly coming to them for his diabetes. They are willing to lose all of that...because they gave me an "incorrect estimate" when I came for the exam? They are willing to lose all that because they went $200+ over the HIGH of the estimate and didn't tell me until I was there and held my cat hostage until I paid? I will not be bringing any of my pets back and if anyone has a recommendation for a vet that actually knows how to run their business and animal care properly please send them my way!

Being a veterinarian is not easy. Imagine having to do everything you do with human beings but adding to the complexity the fact that your patients cannot speak, tell you what is wrong, how they feel, and where it hurts? Yet, this is what companion animal owners expect their veterinarians to figure out. We have been taking our Labrador, Charley to Stevenson Ranch Veterinary Center for about seven or eight years. Before that, we used a much less sophisticated veterinary service, because our breeder recommended them. That's fine for well-puppy shots but when your dog ages, you need a full array of services and expertise. Drs. Pope, Reidel, and Fox have these exceptional skills and it makes a difference. On top of their sophisticated approach to modern veterinary medicine, all three of them are genuinely caring and have gone out of their way to make Charley and us feel special and valued. Their staff are good too. A few years ago Charley was diagnosed with an inoperable thymoma. Dr. Reidel outlined our choices and referred us to a large oncology center where Charley got stereotactic radiation that shrank his tumor and gave us three more years with him. Yesterday, as he approached 15 years of age, his body simply gave out. It likely wasn't cancer, but old age. Dr. Fox carefully analyzed Charley's situation and we all determined the most humane approach was to let him go peacefully to sleep and no longer suffer or deteriorate. It was very hard to make this decision but we felt completely understood and supported by the team at SRVC. We want to thank all of them, including Kay and Liz, for their tender care and kindness to Charley and to us. Imagine how hard it is to go through this with animal parents over and over and over, yet they didn't rush us. They gave us all the time we needed, informed options, and a willingness to consider whatever we preferred, even if it meant more work and stress for them. I am not concerned with monetary considerations when it comes to my animal family members. We shouldn't bring animals into our lives if we are not prepared to give them the same care that we would our human family. Charley would not be alive today were it not for this amazing place. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.

Dr. Riedel is the best! My Husky/Aussie mix was recently spayed and (being the nervous dog mom that I am) I was very concerned about my girl's first time going under. Dr. Riedel and the office staff were very reassuring, my girl did great and is fully recovered (can barely even see the scar!) I love that Dr. Riedel called as soon as the procedure was over to put my mind at ease and was very pleased that at the very last minute (on another occasion) when Dr. Riedel was able to accommodate my girl after swallowing a ziplock bag full of kibble! It's this kind of care that will keep my girl and I coming to SRVC! Many thanks!

In 2018 I started taking my cat Lili to the Golden State Vet office. She was diagnosed with diabetes and the doctors explained everything and helped me figure out a diet and medication regimen. She went into remission for a bit but then her diabetes came back recently. Then last week, my Lili passed away. When I brought her to the office they rushed her in, but unfortunately there was nothing to do for her but put her to sleep peacefully. Of course the experience was devastating but Dr Rhydell was so sweet and I could tell she really cared. Lili was always kind of a "scaredy-cat", for lack of a better term. So when I first started taking her to the vet I thought she would be mean or try to run away. But the staff were always so gentle with her and she would come home way more calm than she was when she went in. I just want to say thank you to Dr. Pope's entire staff for taking care of Lili and helping me give her a couple more years of life. I'm so sad she's gone, but without the excellent care I don't think I would have had these last couple years with her.

My personal mistake was to keep going to this place due to the amazing reviews so I thought that I was just having bad luck. We start a couple of years ago with an ear infection when the dog came back from the back of the office with the wrong ear treated. About 1 y and a half ago I brought my dog in for limping, dr Kim diagnosed elbow's arthritis, 2 light walks a day for the rest of his life. Nothing to really do about it. It sounded dumb to me since the dog was only 3 y old so I contacted an orthopedic, the orthopedic removed a broken anaconeal process that dr Kim didn't see at the XRay and talked to me about a very modern treatment which we promptly jumped on, the dog was up and running normal in 2 months. Last year doctor Oh sent me to the ER with a diagnosis of GDV while my dog was actively vomiting fluids (1st hint of the fact that couldn't have been GDV) wasn't bloated, wasn't panting, wasn't foaming, because he had confused an enlarged prostate with a stomach on the X-Ray. Access Woodland Hills pulled up the dog in 24h with simple antibiotics. Today it was the culprit, with the dumbest conversation I ever had in 50 years of my life with the front desk. My dog has lost 2 or 3 pounds in last few months. He went from about 92 to 88. Or who knows? the scale they have in the office is never accurate. Without saying anything a couple of months ago they had put him on a lower dosage of cytopoint which I noticed just from the fact that they billed me a lower price and that the medication hadn't been effective at all all of sudden. Whoever has a dog with skin issue knows how nasty it can get very quickly. I complained 3 times in separate occasions, in person and over the phone, I brought it up when I booked the appointment and today I went back saying again that his skin is a mess and I needed the dosage he has been doing for the last 2 years. They put him on the scale and his weight was 89.5 lb, like for real I am not making it up. Higher dosage starts at 90 lb, there's nothing they can do. They didn't offer a consultation, they didn't offer an alternative plan, the desk employer looked so satisfied that she wasn't going to follow this annoying patient's request. I was boiling, I just couldn't handle so much stupidity, I threw the muzzle I was holding in my hands on the scale which bumped on 90 lb and I asked if I could have his regular dosage now. They called me rude. I didn't have the patience to handle so much retardation. I left and randomly called Pinnacle. They fit me in, visited the dog, gave me his old dosage of cytopoint (surprise surprise they charge less) added apoquel and antibiotics (this how bad his skin was), loaded me with info about soaps and creams, dr Amsel and his technician visited the dog without muzzle before my eyes and without all the scenes that I was used to get at AMC for my 'aggressive ' dog, and I paid a total of 500 dollars which would have covered only 2 cytopoint injection at AMC. AMC takes more patients they can handle. There's always a different technician, a different doctor, front staff looks always overworked tired and confused, only thing are good at is chasing you with a reminder of any possible vaccine. Dr Kim is always rushing, one time to cut corners, because it was late and waiting room was still full she shouted to me the procedure she was about to do on my older dog from behind the front counter while I was sitting in the waiting room and everyone around me was talking. How professional is that? I hate bad reviews but if you are not detailed oriented passionate and professional in medical care maybe it's not your job. And always advocate for your pet and ask second opinions, because if your pet has a real health issue this place can't go beyond vaccines, flea medications and spay or neuter.

For starters, when the vet tech asked me to place my dog on the scale I noticed that there was a huge puddle of urine on it. Yuck! I asked her to clean it up before I'd place my dog on that scale. That's beyond unsanitary! Then when we got to the exam room, that also looked unsanitary! The mat on the exam table had what looked like dried urine stains and nothing smelled clean or sanitized. Really gross and now I'm worried that my dog could have been exposed to something since it's likely nothing in that exam room had been cleaned. I should have left right then and there, and wish I had because things didn't get any better. The vet took forever to come into the room. I was only there to get my dog vaccine boosters but felt they were trying to evaluate and look for random diagnosis. They also were pushy about heart worm testing and charged an arm and a leg for core vaccines. Much more than any place I've ever been. It felt very scammy. And when checking out and paying the hefty bill the receptionists weren't very friendly. Honestly, the whole place just had a bad vibe. I wish I never took my pet here. I don't plan on bringing my pet here ever again and I feel very upset that I trusted bringing her here in the first place. I can't understand how anyone gives this place a positive review. Extremely Disappointing Experience--Unprofessional Handling of a Highly Trained Service Animal…read more I came in for a simple vaccine tech exam and requested to stay with my dog since she has never had an exam or vaccines done without me present. The staff seemed hesitant but agreed, noting that I wouldn't be able to restrain her myself--which I understood. At that time, I informed them of my experience as a prior K9 handler in the Navy and as a professional dog trainer these days. They didn't seem to care due to their protocol. Once we got into the room, things quickly went downhill. One of the techs was talking so loudly, it made both me and my dog uncomfortable. Also, saying things to the effect of "if you hold her there, I can sneak up behind her". The other tech's body language and approach were extremely tense, and when my dog tried to move away, the tech labeled my dog, "skittish." That couldn't be further from the truth--my Malinois is a service animal and is highly trained. Kimba has always done great during vet visits when handled confidently and calmly. After seeing how this situation was handled in front of an owner, I was relieved in my decision to stay with my dog. I can only imagine how they would handle a dog in the back without the owner nearby. It was very clear that the staff were nervous around her breed, and that tension completely set the tone. Instead of taking a moment to reset or try another approach, they became defensive and started touting their years of experience and arguing with me. One of the techs just straight up left the room. The one who was brave enough to stay tried to tell me that "some dogs only like one person"--my service animal is very well socialized to all environments and I trust my dog's judgement of certain people. Does she look like a one person dog to you? Overall, there was zero accountability or apology for how the situation was handled. Ultimately, we had to leave without my dog getting the care she needed. Not because of her behavior, but because of the staff's. It's unfortunate, because a calm, professional approach could've made this an entirely different experience. If you own a GSD, malinois/dutch shepherd, rottweiler, beauceron, australian shepherd, cattle dog, etc... don't bring your dog to Copperhill Animal Clinic for care.

It may honestly be the first time I've seen or paid attention to something. Like this at a vet's office, but it really resonated with me. What an amazing experience this was! Maybe the best I and the cats have ever had at a vet. Before the visit, I was so worried about taking my cats here because one has ridiculous anxiety. However, our guy did really well compared to other visits at other offices. I was worried that it was walk in only, but it was quicker than any other office I've ever made an appointment with. Despite having a steady crowd that day, but I don't think we waited more than 5 minutes to be seen. Despite not having a waiting room (huge plus), they were well organized with queues depending on the service you needed. We were only getting updated vaccinations that day and had 3 people in front of us, plus a few others in different queues. I will add that when we visited there was some construction happening in the parking space right in front of the door - to no fault of the clinic. There was a lot of jackhammering and the staff did what they could to help clients and animals minimize time there. One we got into the clinic, it took us less than 10 minutes to do new patient registration for all 3 cats and me, pay, get their shots and get back to the car. The cats stayed I their carriers through the whole process and the young woman who gave the shots was so sweet with them. She, and really all the staff really seem to care about all animals. She may be the first person who didn't make our anxious boy cry the entire time while getting his vaccinations. She was also so gentle with our geriatric boy who has arthritis and had a bad flare up that day. The clinic area had an animal smell to it; like animals have had accidents in there, but it was strong, powerful, or like it was permanent; more like we may have just come in after an accident that was just cleaned up. Thankfully we didn't need any thing more serious that day, but I will most likely end up here if anything does happen. I was able to watch a few other owners who were dropping off or picking up from procedures and I could see how much love each staff member had for the animals. I have never felt so secure with a vet as I did Tags. Yes, their operation may seem unorthodox, but in their work you can see they truly put the animal and advocacy before any optics. They don't have a fancy waiting room to make you, as the human, feel pampered or bougie. They care about the animal experience and that really matters to me. Based on my anxious boys demeanor during and after our visit, this is by far the best clinic we've ever had. 10/10 could not recommend more!
