Dr. Pope was our vet when she had an office in Castaic (Golden State Veterinary Care). She and her staff took great care of our little Grizzlie until she passed away from bladder cancer. About a year later, we brought our new Frenchie pups to start their care with Dr. Pope. At 8 weeks old Percy developed an eye condition that required specialized surgery. She referred us to Animal Vision Care & Surgical Center where Dr. McNabb and her wonderful team performed the surgery and took amazing care of our little guy. Unfortunately, Golden State Vet closed shortly after, but we were notified that our records were being transferred to Stevenson Ranch Veterinary Center. Simply out of convenience, we started going elsewhere. Fast forward years later we noticed a lump under Percy's jaw. I had to bring him back to Dr. Pope's office. I called SRVC who got him in on the same day with Dr. Chandler. As a very worried pet Mom, everyone was so sweet and made sure I was informed at every step of his care. Dr. Chandler was awesome. After examining Percy, she took the time to explain what the issue may be, and the options involved in each one. After trying to aspirate the area with a needle, she determined it was most likely an abscess from an infection. He was prescribed antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. The Vet Assistant went over the instructions in detail. I then got a call a few days later to make sure the meds were working, and Percy was doing well. My biggest concern with Stevenson Ranch Veterinary Center is not even the dental procedure itself. It is how the owner/CEO, Dr. Lisa Pope-Moore, responded when I asked reasonable questions afterward. My dog, Sora, underwent a dental procedure under general anesthesia on 8/27. She has been anesthetized many times before and always recovered without difficulty. This time, even though she was at SRVC for more than 4 hrs after extubation, she came home profoundly disoriented and poorly coordinated. She couldn't navigate a short distance back to our home and had to be carried. Hours later she was still markedly impaired and wouldn't eat. She also smelled strongly of urine and ammonia. On closer inspection I realized her entire hindquarters were soiled with urine. We had to give her a bath late that night despite her condition. I had a really busy week due to multiple root canals and work, but on 8/30 I reviewed the records and sent SRVC a detailed email asking about the procedure. Among other things, I asked about two low blood-pressure readings in the anesthesia record, what happened after staff took her outside and she would not urinate, what could account for her difficult recovery, and what should be done next time. SRVC itself had called me on 8/28 after the procedure and invited any "questions, comments, problems or concerns." Screenshot of voicemail attached. So I was stunned by Dr. Pope's response. Instead of just answering my questions, on 9/1 Dr. Pope gave largely generalized explanations, emphasized the practice's AAHA accreditation and confidence in its staff, and then concluded that I "lack trust" in the practice and told me to find a different vet lol. She also said animals sometimes don't pee after a procedure--but I didn't ask why Sora didn't pee. I asked why she was sent home covered in urine and why the record didn't reflect anything about the fact that she wouldn't urinate, what they did about it, and whether she soiled herself. Screenshot of part of Pope's 9/1 email is attached. When I objected to the nonresponse and asked again for direct answers, Dr. Pope did give more specific info, but still didn't answer questions about the urine. Her 9/2 reply made the BP record more concerning: Systolic readings were 128 at 9:30, 82 at 9:55, 64 at 10:10, and 92 at 10:30. Dr. Pope said the cuff slipped at 64 and BP improved after repositioning, but there is no documented immediate recheck. The next reading is 20 mins later. It also doesn't explain the low 82 reading 15 mins earlier. With these gaps, the record doesn't show when Sora became hypotensive or how long it lasted. She also told me that my original email had an "accusatory tone" and suggested that I ignored SRVC's efforts to get info from me and chose "instead" to request Sora's records. Part of her 9/2 email is attached. That chronology is demonstrably wrong: All the correspondence is timestamped. I requested Sora's records on 8/27 at 4:34pm before Sora was even picked up from the clinic by my husband at 5pm, so it couldn't have been "instead" of responding to SRVC's post-op calls the next day. My 8/27 email is attached. My email asks that the records be sent to her oncologist and to me to submit to insurance. SRVC didn't send the records to me until about 4pm on Friday, 8/28. Then 8/29 and 8/30 were the weekend. I filed the insurance claim on 8/29 and sent SRVC my detailed email on 8/30. On 8/31, I returned SRVC's AM call within 3 minutes. I also followed up again via email that night when they never called back. My 8/31 email is attached. I have longstanding relationships with Sora's regular vets and specialists and routinely ask detailed questions about her care. I've never had a vet treat questions about her medical care as evidence that the relationship itself should end. Pet owners should be able to say, "My animal had an unusual recovery; please explain what happened," without the inquiry itself becoming the problem. Obviously dogs can't speak up for themselves. It's our job to be informed and advocate for them. Dr. Pope ultimately invited independent review and referred the matter to SRVC's insurance carrier. So I submitted medical records and correspondence to the CA Veterinary Medical Board. Dr. Pope wasn't even the treating veterinarian. Dr. Fox was, and I never had a chance to talk to him about the concerns before Dr. Pope took over the response and ended the relationship. The matter has now progressed to a board complaint involving the care he provided, which is unfortunate. Whatever the board ultimately concludes about the medical care, the way my questions were handled destroyed my confidence in this practice. I would not return. I do, however, highly recommend these vets: Montrose Pet Hospital and TrueCare AKA BluePearl Pet Hospital. I called to ask how walk in's work which her response felt very rushed. unfortunately the time of appointment she provided wouldn't work for me because of work. I let her know I was new to the area and if there is another vet or hospital she can suggest in which she proceeded to say you need to find that on your own...so your telling me if your personal dog patient needed/had an after office hours emergency your going to tell them figure it out on there own? I understand I was not going to take my dog to your vet but in customer service and working with pet parents who are in vulnerable situations with a sick dog you can be respectful. Used to like going here before I knew how much they overcharge and oversell. The location is in Stevenson Ranch so they know they can get away with charging more. What's worse is they'll even stop filling prescriptions for simple flea meds if you don't do their special annual tests that can cost hundreds of dollars. Even after offering my dogs recent full blood work and tests they still refuse. Their e-shop tied to their store is great, which is why I'm trying to get it through them. I've switched to different vets and they have said this is unnecessary and greedy since he's been on them for 4 years. I'd recommend going anywhere else for much better prices and better service. I highly recommend Hasley Canyon Pet Hospital, Castaic Pet Hospital, Little Paws Pet Hospital. Far more honest pricing and some of these places have far more advanced equipment on site. read more

I'm beyond upset with this place. My pets have been coming here since 2018 and they just lost my business because they overcharged me. I have 4 pets, one with ongoing care due to his diabetes, so this is a LOT of business lost. All because of $200. I understand that things happen and there are price discrepancies. That's why I ask for a quote/estimate before any big $ procedure. The estimate gives me the low and high for what I should expect. Apparently not today though. After I brought one of my cats in for his exam and his teeth were examined we decided a dental procedure including extractions was necessary. I asked for a detailed estimate before booking and then gave a $250 deposit. Today was his procedure. When I picked him up, the bill was $200+ over the high of the estimate. I explained that this was not ok as I specifically asked for an estimate to avoid this AND was given both the low and high to have realistic expectations. After making me (and my cat) wait, I was offered a minimal discount which was still over the highest amount on the estimate. When I said that I hadn't agreed to that and I signed the estimate where I agreed to the quoted prices (and here's why I'm never coming back) I was told that if I only paid the high estimate they would send the balance to collections. The balance of less than $300. I have 4 pets. Four. Two of which are young dogs with years of visits and care. My other cat has ongoing vet needs so we are constantly coming to them for his diabetes. They are willing to lose all of that...because they gave me an "incorrect estimate" when I came for the exam? They are willing to lose all that because they went $200+ over the HIGH of the estimate and didn't tell me until I was there and held my cat hostage until I paid? I will not be bringing any of my pets back and if anyone has a recommendation for a vet that actually knows how to run their business and animal care properly please send them my way! read more

Being a veterinarian is not easy. Imagine having to do everything you do with human beings but adding to the complexity the fact that your patients cannot speak, tell you what is wrong, how they feel, and where it hurts? Yet, this is what companion animal owners expect their veterinarians to figure out. We have been taking our Labrador, Charley to Stevenson Ranch Veterinary Center for about seven or eight years. Before that, we used a much less sophisticated veterinary service, because our breeder recommended them. That's fine for well-puppy shots but when your dog ages, you need a full array of services and expertise. Drs. Pope, Reidel, and Fox have these exceptional skills and it makes a difference. On top of their sophisticated approach to modern veterinary medicine, all three of them are genuinely caring and have gone out of their way to make Charley and us feel special and valued. Their staff are good too. A few years ago Charley was diagnosed with an inoperable thymoma. Dr. Reidel outlined our choices and referred us to a large oncology center where Charley got stereotactic radiation that shrank his tumor and gave us three more years with him. Yesterday, as he approached 15 years of age, his body simply gave out. It likely wasn't cancer, but old age. Dr. Fox carefully analyzed Charley's situation and we all determined the most humane approach was to let him go peacefully to sleep and no longer suffer or deteriorate. It was very hard to make this decision but we felt completely understood and supported by the team at SRVC. We want to thank all of them, including Kay and Liz, for their tender care and kindness to Charley and to us. Imagine how hard it is to go through this with animal parents over and over and over, yet they didn't rush us. They gave us all the time we needed, informed options, and a willingness to consider whatever we preferred, even if it meant more work and stress for them. I am not concerned with monetary considerations when it comes to my animal family members. We shouldn't bring animals into our lives if we are not prepared to give them the same care that we would our human family. Charley would not be alive today were it not for this amazing place. Will not be returning to Stevenson ranch vet. Had a very negative experience in dealing with my dogs allergies. They acknowledged a "miscommunication" between the vet and vet tech and myself. They ran the wrong kind of allergy test, and when I asked them to get the correct allergy test at their expense due to the "miscommunication", they backpedaled and tried to say I approved for the other type of test. Blatantly lying to get out of having to fix their mistake and miscommunication. Quick update here- Not only did the the Vet's office manager call us back as we decided to give them another try with one more appointment- probably would have also taken the original poor review down. Instead this office manager was condescending (similar to the rest of the staff). She told us they wouldn't see our dogs unless the review came down and staff doesn't feel comfortable. I typically don't go to this extent ever on reviews- but I feel the need to here. Not once did they apologize or just acknowledge our frustration. Instead, they just dug in a bit more showing their lack of customer service. Steer clear of this vet- plenty of others out there with good reviews in the area. In 2018 I started taking my cat Lili to the Golden State Vet office. She was diagnosed with diabetes and the doctors explained everything and helped me figure out a diet and medication regimen. She went into remission for a bit but then her diabetes came back recently. Then last week, my Lili passed away. When I brought her to the office they rushed her in, but unfortunately there was nothing to do for her but put her to sleep peacefully. Of course the experience was devastating but Dr Rhydell was so sweet and I could tell she really cared. Lili was always kind of a "scaredy-cat", for lack of a better term. So when I first started taking her to the vet I thought she would be mean or try to run away. But the staff were always so gentle with her and she would come home way more calm than she was when she went in. I just want to say thank you to Dr. Pope's entire staff for taking care of Lili and helping me give her a couple more years of life. I'm so sad she's gone, but without the excellent care I don't think I would have had these last couple years with her. read more

We've been bringing our dogs to SRVC for years since moving to the area. While we were impressed by the online reviews & service we received at first, lately there has been a very noticeable decline in staff attitudes, not being able to see a vet when needed, and the inability to secure an appointment without weeks wait. But the events this week during an after hours emergency have broken all trust related to their reliability & effectiveness. One of my dogs was bit by another dog and was bleeding from his nose, head & eyes. I called their GuardianVets answering service and it took several minutes for anyone to answer the phone. Even after I explained the situation (and gave my contact details), the response was "let me try to connect with a tech on duty." After several more minutes of being placed on hold, I finally hung up as I was already in my car driving to a new vet who was open late. My dog ended up needing 5 stitches & almost lost his eye. To this moment (over 36 hours later) I have not received a single call back from anyone at that answering service, nor a vet tech or anyone associated with Stevenson Ranch Vet Center. We like to be loyal to businesses but are sad to say that we will be taking our business elsewhere. I hope SRVC finds a new after hours call service so no one else has to deal with the stress & anxiety of struggling to get ahold of someone here to help in an after hours emergency. read more

Love love love this vet office! All of the staff and doctors are so friendly and so accommodating, you can tell they really care about the pets. They're also very upfront with pricing. It's fairly easy to get a tech appointment, but they're so busy it can be a 1-2 week wait for a vet appointment. I wish they'd bring in another doctor for urgent cases that can't always wait 1-2 weeks (diarrhea, ear infections, etc). We've been taking our baby here since the day we got him and I always feel confident they have his best interests at heart. read more

We have only used this clinic three times as we were past clients of Golden State in Castaic which closed down. We really like Dr. Riedel and were hoping to use this clinic as our new vet - but we will not be going back. Made an appointment for our dog to have her allergy injection 3 weeks ahead (she receives it monthly) - and when we got there, after waiting outside for 10 minutes, they told us they had used the majority of stock they had on other pets prior to our visit - which did not leave them enough to provide our dog with her required dose. Note, the receptionist advised that some pets had received same medication earlier in the day, who had made their appointment well after we had, which caused the shortage by 2:00. Why didn't they look at their appointments for the day and set aside the required medication for our appointment? We waited 3 days for a new supply to come in, brought our dog back, and when we discussed this with the office manager she could not have cared less. Would not offer a discount for the inconvenience - and when we advised we would not be back - again, it was who cares. read more

I brought our 4 month puppy in as an emergency. He had gotten into some stuff he shouldn't have and I was in panic mode and looked up the nearest vet. Not only did they take him right away, everyone in the office was very nice and comforting. Dr. Pope took him and examined him and updated me along the way which made me feel better (even though i was semi scared). Dr. Pope ended up keeping him for the remainder of the day just to monitor him and make sure everything was good. Everything ended up being fine and I picked him up with no problems. Not only was the clinic in a nice area, but our wait was minimal and the cost was incredible compared to some of the higher rates at say, VCA. We got a wellness exam, shots and full spectrum fecal exam for under $200. The vet was also really kind and gentle. A surprisingly good experience!! read more

I have two senior cats that have autoimmune issues and recently started steroid treatments to control painful inflammation in their gums. Two weeks ago I switched to SRVC for proximity since I would be making regular visits. The vet recommended a laser therapy for four weeks in addition to the steroids. When I went for the third treatment I was told that I didn't have an appointment and that they were totally booked until the following week. I recall making the second appointment by phone and asking at the time for consecutive appointments at the same time, but I was told that never happened and no appointment was booked. For the sake of argument let's say that I was at fault and mistaken. Why wouldn't anyone in their office take the responsibility to at least ask about scheduling a follow up appointment that had been prescribed by the vet? Now my cat is in too much pain to eat and I'm not available until next week to take him back to the original vet. Clearly SRVC has more business than it can handle. We definitely need another more compassionate vet in the area. read more

I have to say that Dr. Fox is AMAZING! I brought my Frida in for a second opinion and also was looking for a more holistic approach to treating her. With acupuncture/laser therapy she is making a full recovery. I would absolutely recommend this Veterinarian to family & friends. read more

I've had two bad experiences here. Won't be coming back. UnfortTried to charge me for an "emergency visit" bc they were closing soon. Went elsewhere. To Lisa P. How about rather than leaving passive aggressive comments - maybe put on your website "last check in at 5:30." That way your staff still have enough time to properly close. I called on my way and your receptionist failed to tell me you were closing soon. I wasn't going to pay for an emergency visit for a minor eye infection. Or perhaps have your staff explain things properly. My first visit I brought in two dogs and was told the price was going to be $95 for both dogs. Come to my surprise I come out and it was $95 x2. I work in health care and I know that visit would have been 10-15 min and you lost a customer over it and many more friends and family that have been going there. read more

So happy with the treatment my dog Louie received from Dr. Pope. A combination of treatments including laser were used to help heal Louie's paw. Dr. Pope monitored and treated him until he was healed. Also, she is just plain honest and does not take advantage of desperate dog parents such as myself. Worth every dime spent! I would give no stars if I could. I took my puppy in to get her rabies vaccine. I talked to someone on the phone twice who told me she was due and that they would book the appt. On my way I called to say I was bringing her vaccine records since she had gotten her final Parvo vaccine in the weeks prior from the rescue we got her from. The girl on the phone said she was due for those Parvo vaccines but I told her I was bringing the record she had had them and that she was coming in for her rabies vaccine. When we got there they took her in and I get a call to pay for the appt. The girl asked if I would like to schedule her rabies vaccine while I was on the phone. I asked her what she meant since that's what my dog just got. She told me that they actually gave her the Parvo vaccine and that she wasn't due for the rabies vaccine. I talked on the phone to someone two times prior to this appt and confirmed the day of my dog was getting her rabies vaccine. Instead of calling me to tell me that they were giving her a different shot they just went ahead and did it. I was so upset that they would just give my dog something else she was not scheduled for without my consent. They didn't even give me the sticker for proof of which vaccine she got, they just wrote it down. I will never ever go back to this place and would never recommend it to anyone. read more
