When I moved to Pennsylvania from Ohio, I had a difficult time finding a place that could give me a…read moredecent clipper cut. I tried several places in Stewartstown and Shrewsbury, but I wasn't really happy with the results. None of these places were barbershops, just hair salons or quick cut places like Great Clips. When traveling through Dallastown one day, I noticed a striped pole, within a set of row houses, the sign of a true barbershop. So I stopped in and asked for a clipper cut. The owner, Eugene Snyder, of Snyder's Barbershop, was an elderly man wearing glasses and hearing aids. He was what you would describe as an old time country barber; very friendly, very political, and definitely into fishing. The barbershop is nothing fancy, but he knows how to give a clipper cut. I went to him for a couple of years, but his hours weren't great. I passed Steven's Hair Designs on Main Street, in Shrewsbury, many times, noticing the striped pole out front on their sign. So instead of driving to Dallastown, I decided to give them a chance to cut my hair. The barbershop was so much more inviting and bright compared to Snyder's. There was a big flat screen TV, not that I was there to watch it or socialize. Their hours of operation were better, but still closed on Monday, like Snyder's. The staff was younger and definitely knew barber techniques. They went the extra steps of trimming eyebrows, stray hairs on the ears, in addition to providing warm shave cream to the back of the neck followed by a straight razor. Snyder's charges $12 and Steven's charged $15, or $13 if you're retired. It was definitely worth the extra dollar, excluding the generous tip I always give, to switch barbers. Steven's moved down the street to Old Farm Road, in the same plaza as the Rutter's and changed their name to Mason Dixon Barber / Styling. It's still the same setup and people and prices. If you're looking for a close cut, from a team of professionals, I would recommend choosing this barbershop.
