Over the phone, steven took time to get to know you and your story, try to get a sense of what kinda pictures/portrait you are looking for and record your story through the lens. We did both city hall wedding and a private 2 hours outdoor shooting on Long island. As always, he arrived early ( earlier than us). City Hall Wedding For most couples, it's prob. their first time, so having a wedding photographer who is patient and experienced with the process definitely ease a lot of the stress. I remember Steven kinda walk me through the process over the phone before the court wedding date, giving your tips that actually helped a lot. The actually "ceremony" is quick, but sometimes the wait can be a little long, he really takes time to capture each moment for you along each step of the process. Outdoor Shooting I told Steven that I love nature, and I like artsy/cool pictures. Steven suggested morning/evening time where the light has a lot of variety. For me, he is sort of an impressionist, trying to capture beauty throughout the changing light. He is creative, and also open for suggestions. We loved our pictures. Steven Wu is an incredibly talented photographer! My S.O. and I made a trip with our family (we live in California) to New York over the summer in May. It was my S.O.'s first trip and my millionth time to NYC. Our family had already decided that we were getting engaged and having our engagement party this upcoming November. I wanted to make this trip memorable, as it was his first trip, so we decided to do our engagement photos in NYC! I researched photographers almost everyday for a month when I stumbled upon Steven and his amazing reviews! We don't regret hiring Steven! He was absolutely amazing! We had been together for 6 years and we never did any type of photo shoot together. Our shoot was on a Friday morning in Grand Central Station and then in Central Park. Imagine a typical Friday morning at Grand Central. It is very, very, very busy and packed. We met up with Steven there and he asked us to go stand in the middle, of what seemed like thousands of people, and go pose. Needless to say, we felt SO awkward doing that. The second Steven started talking to us, we got so comfortable. The whole time we were with Steven, we only noticed him and each other. He made us totally forget how nervous we were and made us forget about the hundreds of people walking by and staring at us. I recall him saying he was in technology or something before he started doing photography but I swear, he must have some training in psychology because he like hypnotized us into feeling so calm and comfortable. Once he started clicking, we were so calm and at peace. We just focused on each other and the hilarious conversations we were having with Steven. Gosh, he kept us so entertained & happy! He truly is such an amazing man!!! I researched photographers for a whole month and am so glad I found Steven! I couldn't imagine a better photographer. And as far as the pictures go, they turned out AMAZING!!! For our first ever photo shoot, they were the most beautiful pictures I have ever seen! Thankfully we were able to have Steven as our photographer because my wife and I wanted someone who would capture treasured moments, images of the heart really, and that's exactly what he did. Steven took our engagement photos in our local redwood forest, Big Basin, and our wedding photos on a cold super foggy day here in San Francisco. My wife and I wanted wedding photos that weren't your typical stock wedding photos. And we also didn't want those photos where people pose like they're in a glamour magazine or movie poster while wearing wedding clothes. I'm sure you can have those types of photos too but that wasn't what we were looking for when we brought Steven out for our wedding. He has a great artistic style. Let me start by saying I am extremely camera shy and pretty much hate having my picture taken... so choosing a photographer was a daunting task. However, I've discovered as Steve told me the first time we met... it's because I haven't had my photo taken properly.. and when the right person knows how to capture you in your natural state... your can actually look good in a photo! The very first time we met up with Steve to discuss the possibility of him being our photographer, Steve made it a point to spend time getting to know us. His friendly, open personality, and his clear love for his craft, made it easy for us to trust him to capture our wedding day. On our wedding day, Steve was on time, professional, friendly, energetic, and extremely patient (we had lots of family requesting posed shots)... also he was really good with kids! I never needed to tell him where to be... he was just always present when we wanted photos taken and at other times taking pics of our guests (which was really important to me because we barely got to see what our guests were experiencing throughout the day). He gave us way more photos than other photographers would have. The photos really captured our whole wedding day and gave us details of the minute changes of expression in people's faces and body language that may have been missed if another photographer only gave us one or a handful of pics of each significant event that day. There was a good mix of photos capturing our guests enjoying the wedding day as well as some gorgeous artistic shots of us that blew us away! So where do I start? As if wedding planning isn't stressful enough- interviewing vendors was the last thing I wanted to do with my time. We had met with a few photographers and I knew within a a couple of min that Steven would be perfect. We love, love, love Steve. He captured the essence of our wonderful only-in-New-York wedding as nobody can (we were married on the rooftop steps of the TKTS booth in Times Square at noon on a summer's day). as most of you shopping for wedding photographers at the moment know, this is quite a time consuming and arduous task. please use this review as an aid to easing your pain. We found Steven after many hours of online research and countless inquiries with medium to smaller sized institutions. Let's be real, no one wants to go through a big box photographer as there is less personality and too many canned photos. Steven was very responsive from the get-go. My wife and I didn't want to meet with more than 2 or 3 photographers and based on the quality of his published work and the responsiveness to our questions and emails we only met with Steven and one other photographer. I will say, we loved both photographers that we met with and each had their own special talent that set them apart from rest of the lot and from each other. Ultimately it came down to our gut instinct and we just both loved Steven's work with no hesitation and are very happy we went forward with him. Steven was very thorough in explaining his background and how he goes about editing his photos. We really appreciated the extra attention to detail that he puts in and that effort translates very easily in the final product. As most people are somewhat self conscious of themselves in pictures my wife and I honestly believed that our engagement photos were going to be terrible. We could not have been happier and pleasantly surprised with the results. The pictures were taken throughout SoHo, the Highline and in Washington Square. To the wedding: most photographers quoted us 4 hours of time and maybe 5. Steven was with us from the start of the day (9-10 AM) and shot photos through the end of the night at 10/11 PM. He was was the consummate professional the entire time. We just got our photos back and there was over 1500 photos! We were expecting maybe 400-500. We loved them all. No joke. It's cliche'd but the #1 piece of advice we got from others married before us was to make sure you get the photographer right. My advice to you is do the same. I hired Steven to secretly photograph my surprise proposal to my girlfriend. He was very easy to work with and exceeded all of my expectations. I chose Steven after a very long and drawn-out search for our City Hall wedding. After researching dozens of photographers, the choice was actually quite easy. Not only did we feel the quality of his portfolio was at least as good as anybody else's, but his quoted rate was very reasonable compared to the competition.
