After a less than stellar doctor/patient relationship with a dentist very close by, I returned to…read moresearch for a replacement dentist when I came across Smith and Elliott. I made an appointment for a consultation and was able to be seen quickly, however that appointment had to be rescheduled and the delay for that appointment was quite lengthy. Once I arrived to the office I was not seen immediately. It didn't appear there was a dental emergency. just more appointments that there were hands in mouth. I finally was taken back to a well used exam room and subsequent trip to x-ray as I was a new patient. To this point, my review was a solid 3 stars at best. Then I finally met Dr. Elliott. I was very, very impressed with his interpretation of what I was going thru and we did have a few candid moments of proposed treatment which in all honesty I was expecting. Now I am on the wait list to get another appointment. Sigh, honestly, this is a first for me, being put on a wait list, so like in the airlines, if I don't get cleared for a seat, I'll have to go to "plan B".

While I understand the business decision to drop my insurance, I am very disappointed that after 18 years of care, I was not told until 4 1/2 months after they initiated dropping my insurance that I needed to find a new dentist. They were very aware, cleaning appointments are being scheduled 8 months out. Sure enough, when I started calling around, the next appointment I could schedule is February, 9 months out. Basically I'll be paying dental insurance this whole year without anyone in my family being able to see a dentist.

I was very nervous since I had not been to the dentist in a while and because I did not yet have dental insurance. I was running about 15 minutes late because it was further away then expected and I got stuck at work. They let me back and did not give me a hard time about this at all. The dentist I saw was the son of Dr. Wright. He was super personable and helped me be at ease. He numbed me up so well that I had no pain during the procedure and did not even have to take any pain meds after. The best part was he didn't even charge me full price, he only charged me what people normally have to pay out of pocket after their insurance pays their portion. Naturally after I got insurance I didn't hesitate on who to go back to when I needed the rest of them pulled and a cleaning. The cleaning I needed was more intense since I hadn't been for one in a while. They contacted my insurance while I was with the hygienist and let me know what part was covered and exactly how much to expect to pay out of pocket. When I came in to do the procedure I again felt no pain before or after and this time it was Dr Wright and a hygienist! Dr Wright even took some money off because I had had a bad day (someone hit my car and tried to take off). The 3 times I have been there have been fantastic. I will recommend them to my family and my friends! Even though I live about 30 minutes away I will continue to go to this office.

Now after 2 cleaning sessions and a very simple tooth extraction I have been billed an additional $657.00 with no advisement or explanation. Aspen is not a member of BBB. Many nationwide complaints. I am currently disputing the upcharge. I will contact my insurance company.

Aspen Dental had an appointment available at 10:30 which I jumped at. this was a complete waste of my time. it took 2 1/2 hours for a couple of X-rays and a brief exam. After messing with my mouth, my pain level was so severe I left crying. The only thing the Dr. would give me for pain was ibuprofen which I cannot take as I'm on meloxicam. I have a 6 hour drive home, can't eat or sleep, and can't get an appointment at home confirked as all of the dentists I called are all closed for the holiday. anyone who has ever had a severe toothache knows the intensity of the pain. I had a root canal 3 weeks ago and had an infection there. I started an antibiotic but developed the stomach flu so I couldn't keep anything down. I went several days without taking the drug until I was able to again. I believe that because of that, the infection never cleared up completely and starting up on a holiday weekend of course. I did ask for an antibiotic which the dentist agreed to. Im 66 years old, and a cancer patient. I believed that a doctor or dentist are there to help. all I wanted was to make me comfortable until I get home. they told me to take extra strength tylenol which is exactly what I've been doing which did nothing. i wasn't asking for a specific pain drug, just something for the next few days until I can try and get into a dentist. what complicates the matter is that we just sold our home, moved out of Illinois to a cottage in Michigan while we wait to move to South Carolina next month. I need to find a new dentist in Michigan to help me but can't schedule a new patient appointment because all the dental offices I called are closed until Tuesday. I'm desperate so I called every dentist I could find around our small town. that means I have to deal with this excruciating pain for who knows how long. I can't believe the lack of compassion to let someone suffer until who knows when. on top of everything, this was a substitute dentists as the normal dentist had a family emergency. Because of that, they couldn't take any insurance which I still don't understand. They only charged me their coupon special of $29 which I appreciated. what I just went thru did nothing for me. I can't believe they would allow me to suffer for not only the ride home, but until I can get a hold of a dentist next week. Now I understand the one and a half stars for this location. Avoid this location if at all possible.

Dr. Rauen seems like a nice enough guy, and every time I have gone in there the service has been prompt and affordable. I would probably be giving the practice a higher rating, but I called in the other day and had a semi-ridiculous exchange with the doctor during which he said "I am not sure why you keep doing that" and then offered no solutions to my grinding problem. I called to see when my appointment was and I was met with the RUDEST attitude on the phone. I explained my situation from my last visit (you know, where they canceled my appointment to my face after I already checked in) just wanted to know when to come in - "well clearly we didn't actually schedule you because I can't find it." Seriously? I've needed to be seen for two straights months, and this is what happens? This place will never see my face again whether they wanted to or not.
