I've gone to Dr. Applegate since I was in elementary school (I'm in graduate school now)! The services provided here are impeccable. Whether you're coming in for a routine cleaning with a hygienist, or you actually have to get something fixed in your mouth (and I've had my fair share of both), you can count on this office to do it right. Everyone here is so nice and they're very good at taking you back for the actual time your appointment is. I especially love the way they clean your teeth now. They use this thing called an air polisher with glycine powder, and it's top of the line! My husband came down with the flu over the weekend. He called Monday to cancel an appointment on Tuesday. He was told that it would be $100 for a cancelation fee because it was under 48 hours. The last day in the office was Thursday. He wasn't ill at that time. She wanted to know his symptoms so that she could judge if he was sick or not. Basically, she said to keep the appointment or be charged $100. They must be the petri dish of the community. read more

dental hygienist was nice first time, but I noticed a few red flags about the practice overall. I have been regularly seeing a dentist at least two times a year. But at my initial appointment, they told me I had eight cavities. I got the cavities filled. And since I don't have fillings, often, I left the practice without questioning that I could feel the fillings when I bit down. I didn't think about my retainer fitting after getting fillings, I did mention at my cleaning that I wore a retainer to the hygienist, but that was my first appointment with them. During the fillings, the staff didn't think to ask about my retainer and check if it fit after the fillings. It wasn't until I went home that I noticed my retainer wouldn't go in at all after previously fitting perfectly because it was a new retainer. After that, I googled it and realized nearly of my feelings were misshapen. After the fillings, I left in my mouth was super sore, which I'm not sure if that's normal. They did fix my fillings with no additional cost to fit my retainer. It was a week after I initially got my fillings that they shaped them better. But when I called them about the miss shaping originally I also mentioned, I was eating a tortilla chip, and I noticed something fell out from in between my teeth, a hard plastic that I suspected to be from the fillings. I mentioned to this to them when they reshaped my feelings they just brushed it off and said that it's probably extra bonding. Then four days after they reshaped my fillings one of my fillings fell out (it was in a different spot than where something originally fell out, I believe). The filling that fell out was on my front four teeth so I've heard that that is a hard spot to fill. But after so many things going wrong I don't trust them with my teeth. I was never told this office was out of network for my insurance. They shouldn't have ever assumed that as a new patient, I was ok with paying almost completely out of pocket. They quoted my dental fillings at less than half of the actual bill they sent in the mail. When I called back they said they couldn't do anything about it, they are "diligent" about stuff like that, and probably told me. To make it worse, I called they day I got the bill with questions and the office manager replied with, "you need to settle this bill or I will send it to collections". She, on another call, blamed the new employees saying "they might have made a mistake" when I know that I paid my initial bill with her. Their oversight cost me over $1,200 out of pocket for just fillings. If you want to go to this office, call your insurance first and check for yourself because they will max it out charging large amounts for procedures and cleanings. * I wish I would have read other reviews (including the ones they conveniently have hidden under "not recommended") that also discuss them not being helpful with the extremely large bills they send to their patients * read more

Can I just tell you how much I love Applegate Dentistry?!?!?! Everything about - the people, the products, the service, everything. I've been a patient here for a long time and I have never been disappointed. Also, I've never left without having a clear understanding of my treatment plan. From the front desk attendant, to the hygienist, to the payment coordinator, to Dr. Applegate himself, I have always received excellent service. They are always so accommodating and pleasant. I live out of state and I make it a point to travel the two hours to come and get my dental work done! Once you've located a talented and innovative team like this you should not give it up - and I won't! Even though this is out of network for insurance purposes I gladly pay the extra fee because I know that I will receive consistent, dependable, and superb work quality! They also have a payment plan option when you cannot make a large single payment. Back in the day when I ate candy by the gallon I appreciated those payment plans as they helped me finance my dental plan at a rate that was comfortable for me. And, there are many areas in life you can cut back on, but dentistry should not be one - especially when you have high caliber individuals like those at Applegate Dentistry! I had moved to the area and a coworker referred me to Applegate Dentistry. They are a bit pricier than other area dentists, but the service is impeccable. The staff is by far the friendliest group I've ever encountered. I even got a card in the mail from them wishing me luck on a 10K race I was running! Talk about personable! They have massage chairs, paraffin lotion hand treatments while you're getting your dental work, and some of the most high-tech equipment around. They have contests/drawings for patients where you can win gift cards. The referral system they have is great, too, and another way you can earn gift cards. The only con is the price. It's not cheap, but I have never been so comfortable at a dentist until I started seeing Dr. Applegate. read more

Dr. Applegate is a great person, great dentist, and makes every experience a positive one.

First of all, I went here after receiving several recommendations. I have quite the dental history for my age, and based on friend's suggestions I went here feeling really positive that they might help me get my pearlies in order. But, after a couple thousand dollars and more pain, I can say confidently: don't go here unless you have a major hole burning in your pocket! Dr. Applegate put a much needed crown on one of my molars. Their high-tech no-temporary machine seemed great. But, I'm left with a molar that doesn't even feel like a tooth, and 2 years later, it still hurts! He filled a tooth next to it as well, which also causes me some discomfort and was according to my prior dentist, just fine beforehand. Next, Dr. Applegate suggested a $6,000 treatment plan. $6,000! I went to two other dentists and received treatment plans of $850 and $1,500, respectively. It seems to me dentistry is entirely subjective, and Dr. Applegate just wants to make your mouth his own. The doc himself was great... obviously passionate about his profession. The woman who handles the finances is extremely rude and condescending. Their policies... ugh, they require you to return calls to confirm appointments, they call YOU if you're 2 minutes late, I found it to be very irritating. I would never, ever go back to this place, and I know someday soon in addition to the other work I need done, I will have to have Dr. Applegate's work redone as well. Update: as of last year all of the teeth Applegate had filled or crowned have been replaced with new crowns. I love having to do things twice. Thanks Doc. read more

In fact when getting cavities filled their numbing gauze works so great that I have never felt any pain or discomfort so there's nothing to be anxious about. I work just down the block from Applegate Dentistry so of course I started going here last year (this was a big move for me - who has had dental trauma and have been consistently going to the same dentist/oral doctors for 15 years). The staff is so nice and personable, the technology really is top-of-the-line, and they even just fit me in within a half-hour of calling. That's great service! Plus, as mentioned before, there are the perks of a massage chair and hand paraffin treatment when getting your teeth cleaned...... in style. Absolutely love Dr. Applegate's office. His staff is the best. I recently got my husband to start coming here who is a tough critic and he is so impressed. The front office staff is so prompt, responsive and super friendly. The finance girl is very clear and makes everything easy to plan for next visits and expenses/ insurance. The hygienists explain everything they are doing and preventive care. It is a very educational experience and my husband said he learned more in his first visit here than all of his previous years/experience. We just started bringing my 9 yr old son to Dr. Applegate's office as well and the staff has been so accommodating for him. The staff is beyond excellence in delivering superior customer service and I would not hesitate to recommend this office to my closest friends. Another HUGE benefit was being able to get a crown replacement in one day while I waited in the chair for it to be milled in the Cerec machine. I am in the public eye, so cannot afford downtime. I first visited Dr. Applegate on the recommendation of a friend. I was having pain in a crown and it had some decay under it so I need to have it replaced. This would be my sixth crown. The office staff were, for the most part, very friendly. The dentist himself was friendly as well. They offer some things that some patients might like, such as a paraffin treatment for the hands. On my first visit, they needed to X-ray the tooth. It took them seven tries to get it right. Thankfully he didn't charge me, but I don't like exposing myself to all that radiation. They told me they have low radiation X-rays, but I still don't want to get zapped over and over again like that. I returned to get my CEREC crown. I can't remember what that stands for, but they are same day crowns made by a machine in the office. I have never had one like this before. I usually have impressions taken, a temporary put on, and then about a week or two later I get my crown. It always takes a while to get used to them, but I have generally been happy with the results. Still, the idea of a one day crown really tempted me. I received my new crown, and noticed it felt and looked huge in my mouth, much bigger than my other teeth, and not in line with my natural teeth. It was very uncomfortable. I went home and ended up going back the same day to try and get it adjusted. The dentist did some drilling on it, and I went home again. A week after that, my husband called them and told them I am just not happy with it, and told them I wanted it replaced. The office staff agreed to it, so a week after that I found myself back in the office, expecting to get a traditional crown. I am not very assertive, and when they got me in the back, the dentist told me they wanted to drill the crown down more, but that drilling it down would weaken it and make it more likely to crack. I wasn't happy but I wasn't sure what to do. I'd already gone around for two weeks feeling like I had a golf ball in my mouth, so I told them I wanted something done because it was way too big and not aligned right. So they drilled it down and sent me on my way. I'm still not happy with it, it still feels and looks wrong, and it is not comfortable. My insurance won't cover another, so at this point I think I will just go somewhere else and pay for a new one out of pocket. UPDATE: After many long conversations, we persuaded him to redo the crown. I should mention that he did a filling when he did my crown the first time. He decided the filling needed to be redone (???), so I was in there for an hour and a half getting a million impressions and having a month old filling replaced because he also messed that up the first time. I just got my new crown, and it is just as bad as the first. The filling is awful too. Other dentists contour the fillings to my teeth, this dentist just makes them flat and smooth, so the tooth doesn't actually have any surface to it. The crown was, once again, way too big, and while cutting it down he smoothed it out too, so some parts and just like a smooth block of porcelain in my mouth. I've never had dental work this bad. Changing my review to one star. After many months of seeing this man at least twice a month, sometimes more, I am still going to have to go to a competent dentist and get this work redone, which is going to be expensive, time consuming, and painful. The nice attitude isn't worth it with this one. I'd rather have a mean dentist who does quality work. I feel like I've had two teeth messed up and wasted so much of my time. Wish I had just had it redone by someone else in the first place. I found out that lightening can strike twice. BTW, I should mention I saw a different dentist who saw problems with his work. The crown fit over the tooth fine, but was way out of alignment with my other teeth, and this other dentists spotted that the filling (month old) needed repairs. I'm never setting foot back in Dr. Applegate's office. read more

Appointments are easy to schedule and reminders can be set to help you remember the appointments (an appreciated service for me). Private parking is available behind the office. Julie at the front desk is very friendly and great with directions (if you call her completely lost as I have). Molly takes care of billing and is very personable. I go up Becky for my cleanings. She is sweet, gentle, and kind- hearted and boy does she know what she's doing. She tailors the cleaning and products used (in my case products for sensitive teeth). She is an outstanding educator. Dr Applegate is personable, professional, and does excellent work. Before coming to Dr Applegate I had work done they was not quite up to standards. Dr Applegate does an excellent job and I have never had post-service pain after his work (not the case with one office in particular). So far, so good. I have been through about 7 dentists in 17 years. I am not a bad patient. I just don't have a lot of dental work needs - mainly just cleanings and routine x-rays. Dr. Applegate was conveniently located, and the Yelp reviews were promising. I found the staff to be pleasant, and Dr. Applegate to have a good chair side manner. He seems to keep up with technology. I'll be honest, I've been bad. I havn't been to the dentiest in about 13 years. My wife had been recommended to Dr. Applegate by a co-worker so I went along with her for her first visit. Even as just an observer I was impressed with Dr. Applegates practice, so we left her appointment with an appointment made for myself. When my own appointment came, I remained impress has I had been with my wife. Everyone was very nice and personable. It was amazing to see how much things have changed in dentistry since the last I had been. Being the tech geek I am they won me over with their own in house crown cutter and the software availble now to track how your teeth look. Dr. Applegate himself was very pleasant and easy to talk with about things. After a very long, yet surprisingly painless, initial appointment to scrap off 13 years of plaque I was pleased to learn I only had a few surface cavaties. I'll be having those taken care of soon. I would definitely recommend Dr. Applegate to anyone, especially someone like myself that has put off going to the dentist for such a long time. Oh and his dog is really cool too :). I went to Applegate Dentistry last year for several crowns and other work. I have gaps between my crowns (food traps), then I realized that I overpaid by $1,500. I agree they are nice people but nice does not mean you can charge a higher than usual amount. As for the the lady to collects the money, I could slap her across the face. She is condesending and looks at you like your scum when you don't dole out the cash right away. There are several other detnists out there with a nice staff and who will charge you a more normal rate. Forget Applegate, unless you have thousands of dollars you don't want to keep. I have been putting off getting fillings forever and they were very patient with me and made me feel very comfortable once I finally gave in! : ) They did great at explaining every step of the process which definitely eased my mind. I love the text reminders and OF course I LOVE the paraffin gloves and the massage chair!!--OMG almost forgot that they have sent me flowers before as well!!! The bouquet had little floss things on the sticks in the flowers! It was so cute and unexpected! One star is generous. It's been about two years since I had a horrible experience with this dentist/office, but I keep getting LinkedIn requests from this guy, and every time I see "Dr. Applegate" pop up, I just think... "I hope I remembered to leave negative reviews so anyone who doesn't want their insurance maxed out for a CLEANING and then to be told you need unnecessary work and then treated as scum because you can't afford this work that they a) say is absolutely needed, and b) charge the cost of a small vehicle to complete but aren't interested in working with you beyond figuring out how they can use every last penny of your alloted insurance funds for the year." My cleaning took 3 hours - I needed to be at work at 1pm and I thought a 9:30am appointment would give me plenty of time, but I was wrong! The lady who did the cleaning was very nice, but I don't go to the dentist to get a parrafin hand treatment, and that extra stuff is just unnecessary, especially since it apparently justifies the insane cost. I went to this dentist because it was listed as a provider and very close to where I lived, and also because it had great reviews. Please be aware - these reviews are coming from people who do not feel the pain of their bills. I was a grad student at NKU at the time, and I didn't have a cent to spare (it was a miracle that I even had insurance, because the cost to have it was about 30% of my income at this point.) When they estimated that I only had enough insurance left for the year to do one filling and I told them I couldn't pay out of pocket for the rest, they (namely, the receptionist or whatever she is) made it very clear I was no longer worth their time. Because I was running late for work and had to leave before they even gave me the estimates, I was told they would be emailed to me. I looked over the emails and responded with the truth - that I couldn't afford non-covered work - and with questions (like, what can I do to just prevent the root canals now, and on what can I hold off for awhile? Are these not normal questions?), but once it was clear I wasn't going to work well with their exorbitant pricing scheme, the response was cold and RUDE. (Oh, and I had asked a question during the exam about cosmetic work - just out of curiosity - and the estimate for that was placed BEFORE the fillings which I was told HAD to be filled or else a root canal was certainly in my near future... that, to me, showed that they were just looking to make money and that I needed to get a second opinion.) I sent an email back saying as much, and pointing out how unprofessional it is to discuss someone's records and bills and blatently misspell her name (nitpicking for sure, but I was upset by the attitutude, AND my name is RIGHT THERE on all of the paperwork, so to spell it incorrectly was so careless), and the response was a very sarcastic note where my name was in all-caps throughout for emphasis. What a b!tch. I get it - you only want to deal with wealthy clientele. Well, you weren't upfront about it before I used 75% of my dental insurance for the year on a gd cleaning! They did give me my x-rays, and I went to a different dentist. I did NOT have as many cavitites as I was told by Dr. Applegate's staff, and I was able to get the ones I did have filled, financing the (relatively affordable) out-of-pocket costs with Care Credit. The cosmetic work I asked about was honestly just a question, and I even said at the time that it was just something I was curious about in a hypothetical way. I had no intention of getting cosmetic work done, I just wanted to know what could be done if I wanted to someday (if grad school ever pays off and I have a real income, haha). It just really bugged me that they gave me a price breakdown that included that stuff first... what sort of doctor tells a patient she has real concerns that need addressed and then bumps up the priority of a something I barely mentioned and isn't even necessary (but happens to cost about $6000)? Doesn't sound like a particularly ethical one to me. In summary: this dentist wants patients for whom money is of no concern (because he intends to suck as much as possible out of you). If that isn't you, or if you are just opposed to unethical practices - look elseware. If you want to feel semi-pampered during a 3 hour tooth cleaning and are willing to spend twice as much as you should - by all means, go see these assho!es. read more

I have been a patient for years. I first liked it and that says a lot as I have great dental fears. I overlooked the sales pitches to buy water pics and other items and even overlooked being ov charged several times but my last visit this January put me over the edge... They have become money focused, have lost any patient concern or empathy they once had. I left after 2 and a half hours sore, upset and in much pain. I only had two filings done!
