Dr. Shoemaker's office does not respond to voicemails nor emails (listed email on voice message respond is blocked). Excessive pre-payments and unresponsive for reimbursement. I am now reading reviews on yelp and google of other people's experience and seeing that excessive overbilling is common with this office. Visited Apr 16th for broken toe, they charged $500 (receipt) and said they would bill insurance then reimburse. Received a bill for another $114 which claims I have not paid $0 for services rendered after my insurance was applied. When you call the office, forwards to voicemail during business hours and to email pace5@surewest.com, if you send them email, it is blocked by google. I was told after they collect $500 as a prepayment they would process my insurance claim within the next two business days and reimburse me. It is now June and I am receiving a bill for services that I nearly paid 5x over out of pocket and they are unresponsive. Dr. Shoemaker also recommended surgery within 2 days of my visit at the outpatient center in roseville, but the surgery was cancelled due to the fact his office would not disclose the surgeon or pathology fees, requiring that I would cover the surgery in full. Even though my insurance provider is in network and they put in the claim for the appointment I did attend over a month a half later, after collecting cash payment from me 5x the anticipated cost. He told me he is selling the practice, understandably his staff may be busier than usual, but it is unethical to collect excessive payments and become unresponsive when reimbursement is due. read more

My 15 year old son had to have surgery for implants in both feet to correct his feet functionality, and to create an arch. Dr. Shoemaker's was very personable with us and instantly set us at ease with his experience and his ability to target my sons foot problem in both feet in a matter of minutes. After the in office surgery, he continue to check in on my son on his personal cell phone regularly even though it was Christmas! I usually leave positive reviews in every business that I had experienced but with the exception of this particular business. Staff is lack of customer service orientation and very unprofessional. Recommended a cosmetics service for resolution, which involves out of pocket expenses and never worked due to incomplete service provided during visits. Staff never valued patients time for waiting too long on set appointment scheduled. I cannot recall a waiting time that exceeded my actual appointment time. It seems as if i walk in and walk straight to a room. Dr. Shoemaker will not send you on your way without doing his best to figure out your problems. He will devise a plan to ensure that you feel comfortable about the direction of your health. If I could give zero stars, believe me, I would. I went to this doctor's office and he told me it would be $500 for orthotics and that I would have to pay for them. I said Okay. This was back in January of 2022. I got a call the next day from their office telling me that their computer didn't save the measurements for my orthotics and I would have to come back to their office...two hours away. So I told them it was just too far to drive and I would get my orthotics locally. They agreed to refund my money, which they did. Now, 8 months later, I have received a bill from them for $507.54. I called their office and I am told that I owe this money for exam and x-rays. I was told it would be a total of $500 when I was there and now I am told it would have been over $1,000 had I actually gotten orthotics from them. I have had a cortizone shot in both feet (the heel) to relieve my plantar faciitas. One foot feels great. Something else is going on with the other and I have faith he will determine the issue. Edit June 2018: I have had the same procedure repeated now, on a different toe, with follow up visits. All staff is amazing and Dr. Shoemaker has been nothing but kind, friendly, and professional. This is a great place! November 2017 (4 stars): I had an ingrown toenail surgery for one side of one nail. Front desk and nurses are very friendly, both in person and on the phone. Dr. Shoemaker can be a bit brusque but overall he is very concientious of his work, and honest about the possible results. They are great at scheduling as well! read more

About a month ago I had what I believed was an infected ulcer between my 4th and 5th toe. I called at least 10 podiatrist offices all stating that even know this infection could get really bad they couldn't get me in until December or January. I was started to believe that this would be it for my toe. I called Dr Shoemakers officer and started once again to describe my problem once I said infected they got me in the next day. Such a relief!! Once getting in with him from the office staff to nurses to Dr Shoemaker were all just delightful. I need to have surgery on my foot and his staff got me in for surgery for a week later. I cant thank Dr. Shoemaker enough for his wonderful office and staff. read more

Long stort short: I felt like I was getting the shake down for every last penny here. I went here for a foot issue that had been nagging for a while. Each visit was a merciless attempt to get laser this or advanced treatment that. The doctor asked multiple times what my finances were looking like and would then recomment laser treatments that werent covered by any type of insurance that were at minimum 750 dollars. I went two times to the office and the second time I was pressured to get an in-office MRI. When I asked what the cost would be, I wasnt give a number. When I asked what the benefit was of getting the MRI, I wasn't given an explanation other then we could get some better images of the foot. I wasn't explained the cost of anything and I honestly felt like I was on a used car lot the whole time. I would beware of this place. We call this Dr and another $100. Everything he does he will add another 100 for this service or that service. For example he was going to do an X-ray on part of my foot. But if I wanted the entire foot it was an additional 100. Same X-ray and no additional positions. What a rip off. read more

After several toe operations in surgery centers and in office still wanted to break another toe and another surgery after that one to take off a arthritis lump on my front of foot like a spur. Can I select negative stars? Dr. Shoemaker is dishonest and unethical. If you want surgery you don't need, that will cause permanent damage to your feet, go ahead and make an appointment. If you are a current patient, do yourself a big favor and get another opinion. Oh and lets not forget the over billing. Watch your statements charging for procedures not performed. It's all about money for this man. On my first appointment he examined one foot and then advised I would have to schedule a second appointment for my other foot. What? I went to Dr Shoemaker office today to see if their accounting error would be reconized and corrected. With out hesistation they did both. Their office was more than nice about correcting the error. To be fair to the Doctors office, I have found accounting errors with medical & insurance paper work and insurance claims before with other medical facilities. My advice is keep good records and count your pennies. Sometimes a simple mistake could be 45,000 pennies. $450 Thanks DR Shoemakers office for taking prompt care of this. First of all I want to say that I absolutely adore the staff here. Melissa and Elizabeth are super friendly and very hard-working. I have been coming here for several months due to plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendonitis. Dr shoemaker did every possible non surgical intervention before we finally made the decision to do surgery in August. The surgery went extremely well and I'm only 2 weeks out and in significantly less pain than I was before. The success of gaining milimeters in my tendon length gave me the confidence that I'll be able to run again. His bedside manner is amazing we feel right at home there. We always have a friendly conversation or two while we're there. Dr. Shoemaker gave me hope that I'll be able to live a normal life now with the ability to do the things I love. read more

I had one visit with this "doctor". I paid my copay of $55.00 and bought 3 tubes of cream. Issue was not resolved. I have a lesion on the bottom of my foot that I can't get to heal. Cream he gave me was a joke. He trimmed my lesion for 5 minutes for $175.00 without telling me there would be an additional fee for this. I have been an RN 42 years and have been trimming site without healing fully. He also checked my balance. I have severe nerve damage results of breaking back in 2005, that was $45.00. I put out $100.00 day of visit. Was shocked to receive a bill for $200.. plus due. I called and they offered easy payment plan. told them I am not paying it. CROOK. He comes on all sweet and then puts it to you! STAY AWAY FROM THIS CROOK! They have you sign a paper first visit that allows then to do what ever they want at their profit. STAY AWAY!!!! read more

I am writing this review about a doctor and his staff. My mother became sick and end up for the first time in her 85 years in the hospital for 10 days. When my mother came home from the 10 day stay in the hospital with not only bed sores, but a heel pressure. The sore end up needing to be seen by a profession that specialize in wound care, and Dr. Steven Shoemaker DPM, was referred. I called that day and spoke to assistant and she told me to bring my mother in that next day and that was the start of Dr. Shoemaker and his staff treating my mother as I would or as they would treat their own family. This is one of a kind Dr. office and I just want anyone to know if they have to go or get injury and end up here it's the Best. I would recommend if you need his help go know matter what the price is because you will be very happy in long run. I rate this a 10, but the rating only go up to 5 so they get 5A+ rating.
