I had a very mixed experience with Gentle Touch Dentistry, and while the clinical care was excellent, the front desk experience ultimately led me to leave the practice. I confirmed my insurance once over the phone and then multiple times in person that the office was in-network. Based on that, I proceeded with my appointments on March 16 (cleaning and exam) and March 23 (night guard fitting). On March 16, the doctor and back-office staff were absolutely amazing. Since there was no hygienist available, the doctor personally performed my cleaning, and it was honestly one of the best cleanings I've ever had. The assistants and imaging techs were also great--professional, kind, and efficient. Ashley at the front desk was also consistently pleasant, professional, and knowledgeable. Unfortunately, my experience with Talia at the front desk was the complete opposite. During my first visit, she began discussing treatment and payment mid-visit and even repeatedly called me by the wrong name ("Jennifer") despite having my paperwork in front of her. The doctor recommended both a night guard and Invisalign, but I made it clear I was not ready to move forward with Invisalign. Talia then discussed the night guard and quoted me approximately $440, stating my insurance would cover 50%. She confirmed both the pricing and that I was in-network. We agreed I would pay half at the fitting and the remainder upon completion. I also provided insurance information for my daughter and spouse. I declined self-pay for my daughter after being told they were out-of-network. For my spouse, who has UHC Oxford, Talia said she would verify coverage and call me back. I never received a call. I followed up a few days later and was again told someone would call me back--still no response. At my March 23 appointment, I addressed multiple issues: my email was still incorrect in their system despite providing the correct one previously, there was still no update on my spouse's insurance verification, and I again offered to provide his information, which Talia declined--only to interrupt my fitting mid-procedure to ask for it, forcing the tech to stop and raise my chair so I could access my phone. This was extremely frustrating and unprofessional, especially since I had already provided and re-offered that information multiple times. The most concerning issue came at checkout. When I went to pay the agreed-upon $220 (half of $440), Talia suddenly told me the total was approximately $880 because I was out-of-network and the service was "orthodontic" and not covered. This directly contradicted everything I had been told before booking, during my first visit, and during prior payment discussions. I even had the original quote she emailed me as proof. When I questioned this, she insisted a night guard was orthodontic treatment. I explained that a night guard is considered an appliance, not orthodontic treatment, but she became dismissive and argumentative instead of listening. I left without paying because I no longer trusted the information being provided. I immediately contacted my insurance, who confirmed I am in-network with this office, a night guard is NOT orthodontic treatment, and they cover 50% as originally quoted. They also reviewed Talia's call and confirmed she incorrectly described the night guard as orthodontic treatment to them as well. At that point, I decided this practice was not the right fit--not because of the doctor or clinical staff, but because of the front desk experience. Patients rely on accurate insurance and billing information to make informed decisions, and that did not happen here. When I called to cancel, Talia denied ever telling me I was in-network, which is simply not true. The call was handled poorly and lacked accountability. I did receive a follow-up call from Kali, the manager, who was excellent--professional, understanding, and transparent. She acknowledged that the situation should not have happened and confirmed that re-education would take place. However, to further validate my concerns, I asked Kali to confirm my email address while we were on the phone, and it was still incorrect in the system despite multiple prior requests to update it. Ultimately, I went to another in-network dental office and paid only $107 for the same night guard--compared to the $440 (and then $880) I was quoted here. Overall: Doctor and clinical staff were excellent. Ashley and Kali were professional and helpful. The front desk experience with Talia was disorganized, misinformed, and unprofessional. I strongly recommend verifying your insurance directly before scheduling or making any payments. read more

Horrible treatment. Called just before appointment with my daughters stating an emergency and could not see them together. Totally not caring of my schedule and said if that did not work, they could not see them for 3 months for a regular checkup. Staff members rude and hung up. Came in for a pretty basic procedure. Needed some temporary fillings before scheduling crown placement. I was familiar with exactly what I needed and the cost bc I had just had them done a couple months prior. Everything went smoothly until the bill came. I was shocked to see that on top of the actual procedure the office had charged me for a bogus exam that was never actually performed! The doctor didn't do any X-rays, any preliminary assessment or anything. I was in and out in less than 5 minutes -that's how straightforward my needs were!! And despite it being so obvious that it was an incorrect add on, they fought me on the charge, claiming that because I was a first time patient, it was just a fee that was automatically applied (of 100$!!!). Absolute nonsense, anywhere else they would have simply charged for the fillings and had you on your way. I called and emailed and they were unwilling to offer any solution despite me still having a 3k procedure left to do. Fat chance I'll be giving this business anymore money. They lost a potential 3k dental job all because they were money hungry and insisted on charging me a bogus exam fee. What a joke. Unless you want to pay inflated prices or be duped by superfluous charges, I would suggest you go elsewhere. read more

Dr Polevoy is great! Skillful, gentle and caring. I cannot say the same things about the billing person. On my last visit I paid what she told me I owed and received a statement with "0" balance. A few days ago I received a phone call pretending to be a collection agent saying that I had a bill for $511 overdue since October. Today when I went to see her, she insisted I owed that amount even though I showed the $0 statement, then she proceeded to tell me that an extra procedure was done and the dr had failed to check it. At the end she decided that I actually owed $467.90 which I paid. However the procedure code she referred to is listed for $439 on one statement and $350 on another. If it wasn't that I am in the middle of a treatment, I would not go back. read more

Dr. Polevoy and the entire office staff are wonderful. Put it this way...I paid out of pocket for my work when I could have had it covered by insurance. Dr. Polevoy is knowledgeable, conservative with regard to invasive or expensive work, presents options without pressure and does a marvelous job with communication. He made sure that my work was perfect, and when there was an option to redo something for a small improvement (of which I wasn't totally aware), he took the initiative to take care of it, at no additional expense to me. He really demonstrated a commitment to best practice and ethical care. Additionally, I have taken my young son there for his first and second appointments and he loved the experience. They were gentle and compassionate. The office staff are also incredibly well organized, accommodating and friendly, which for me, goes a long way. I have had some bad experiences with dentists in the past. My business partner has told me he loved Dr. Polevoy for a long time and finally i decided to give him a try. And honestly it was the smoothest and most gentle experience i have ever had. The office runs like clockwork so i didnt have to wait. I really cant stress enough how gentle Dr. Polevoy and their staff were. This was the biggest thing for me. Also i really liked how I did not feel like i was being sold on things. Other dentists I have been too always try to sell me on things. It was really the best dentist experience of my life and now i'm finally going to get regular cleanings without any stress. This was my first visit to Dr. Polevoy. I was greeted by his staff right away. The doctor's assistant made me comfortable in the exam room. The exam room was meticulous...very clean and organized. Dr. Polevoy came in and introduced himself. He took the time to listen to my concerns. He also took the time to explain the process of the procedures needed and discussed some options and the benefits of each. it was one day two years age i read about Dr Polevoy in the westchester magazine the reviews were great I had been looking for a dentist so i didn't not hesitate to call and make an appointment.My visit was very pleasant i was well taken care of. It wasn't until a year later i went in for a regular cleaning i was told I had a cavity I remember asking Dr Polovey haw can i have a cavity and i have no pain not even discomfort, he then explain it was a beginning cavity and it had to be taken care of right away. That day i had a filling done it was Dec 10th 2014. After that day i was in constant pain Dr polevoy put me on prescribe pain killers at first they helped but after a while they did nothing. Dr Polevoy then decided I needed a root carnal by then i was so sick of being in pain and the pain meds had started to effect my stomach. I explain to Dr polevoy I had no money, hid reply is we can work something out. I did the root carnal February 2015 I swiped my debit card so payments can be taken out in three installments. I have to say i still experience pain after the root carnal but in two months the pain had completely disappear.This past September again i went in for a routine cleaning and was told i needed to have a crown done I told Dr polovey no, i was fine i had no pain he insisted i needed a crown and i will continue to have no pain because all my nerves are dead, i said i will thinks about it and beside that i had no money for out of pocket.He suggested to let him put a temporary crown and in three weeks he will put the crown and i can the talk to the financial person to work out a payment plan. I let him put the temporary crown i trusted him well again i was in pain after four days of pain i called and spoke to Dr Polevoly I told him about my pain I told him I wanted nothing else done to my teeth i had had enough. I told him I was cancelling the crown he said ok. On December 4th i went to do a transaction and my card was denied I called the bank and i was told Gentle Dentistry withdrew $205.00 from my account.I was never told, neither did i make any arrangement to make payments, neither this i authorize for any money to be taken out of my account. I was very disappointed in the ethics of gentle dentistry. I trusted them and swipe my card for the first payment in February, so to violate my trust and privacy and go into my account makes Dr Polevoy a common theif. I will not be going back to gentle dentistry neither will i recommend anyone. The care is great but the ethics and integrity is very dishonest. read more
