Least compassionate psychiatrist I've ever done an intake with, and I've seen some really difficult psychs. Kept me waiting over half an hour past my spot time. Barely looked up at me from his paperwork. I felt so terrible by the time I left the initial intake I've never gone back. Would never advise anyone to take a teen or child to this doctor. read more

I brought my young son with severe autism, OCD, and anxiety disorders to see Dr. Ruths. Dr. Ruths was very kind, attentive, and he took the time to listen to me and observe my son. I am very reluctant to put a young child on medication, but Dr. Ruths was very knowledgable about medication with young people, and very careful with the doseage. He had my son back regularly to moniter his progress. This was a marked improvement from the other doctor I had taken my son to, who did not know how to treat my son. read more

This jackoff needs one of two things: 1) his medical liscense revoked 2) a Civil law suite I'll make a long story short....he attempted to prescribe me a 'sytstic fibrosis' medication when I dont have that issue. lol. Im PTSD and biploar phase2 (just means i can hyperventilate/panic). Apparently he didnt read me well. Pffff. I walked into his office with a well written report on all this pharmacuedical shit ive subjected myself too over the past 2 years.... I had other professionals read, and it showed my personal history of 'trial and error', with these meds and more, also what works for me right now. The man intently reads over his manuals. He looks at me, then goes back to reading. Still hasnt asked me a question, but has thus far made an attempt to prescribe me a 'systic fibrosis' med.... fuggin moron.... Instead of paying attention to what he was reading.... he tries to perpetuate the 'guinue pig theory' and asks me if Ive'TRIED' some other medication which was on my list I gave to him; so now hes like playing homosexual mindgame with me, not knowing that I know both the generic and patented names of anything he tries to offer me.... I stayed compliant, polite and cordial even though I knew Dr Ruth's was undoubetedly, a piece of shit. This guy is really not smart. He was flipping through a 'pills' book just handpicking meds with no consideration to me as a human being. So after a few mintues of him faking face, flipping through books, and yadda yadda he could see, that I still saw through him. So then he presents me with the option of ....'would you like the valium' or the 'ativan'.....well, I qualify for both & lithium. Well, with hyperventilation disorders you need 'ativan' it just saves your ass......and valium is used to mellow out and relax and be social....2 completely different anti-anxieties, and this dude calls them 'benzos!'...which is actually assault and dietried considering its the meds that work for me! So on top of being the slowbro in class, he insults me. So I said "Id like both, but I just need the ativan right now really, the valium would really help....why not both?" His theory was that, well, hes too stupid to have any theories and or recite any (no doubt) so his response was 'Oh I cant give you the ativan its to high potency.' To anyone that knows these medications, you know that this is not only a complete lie, its the opposite. Valium can be far more addictive and ativan has no addictive properties whatsoever.......Look its a med I have to remind myself to take thats how NOT ADDICTIVE it is. FACT. ...SOOO, with no surprise....the dipshit only gave me valium (great!, not the 6 pack I asked for or medically need) when I needed 'ativan/lithium/valium.'He didnt even prescribe me my mood stabilizer of lithium. And it was already like, my mood stabilizer of choice... 2 weeks later the follow up appointment was equally as painfully moronic. Regardless, he gives me my last RX for valium, which he PUSHED onto me, and its significantly smaller than the last, so I said 'This is going to cause problems with my system now.' By this point we learn, we know, and we 'patients' dont need a phd at the end of our names to know what works and what doesnt. So Dr Ruths says 'well call back in a week and I'll make sure I get your withdrawel prescription"...he says this OUTLOUD as hes walking away like a gay brat. I remained cordial. He lied and the withdrawl symptoms sent me to the ER. AND hes STILL trying to charge me $80. What a pieace ish right? ... I hyperventilated within a few days,....I called the pharamacy and told them I was falling apart and Dr Ruths PURPOSEFULLY CALLED 2, not 1, but 2 days in a row to let them know not to refill it for me to make me look like a drug addict....total creepy sneaky psy. So....there I go 4 am in the morning to the ER, made it just in time to hyperventilate into full paralaysis, IV's in and out of my arm poking for blood....they gave me 'ativan.' Its my medication. I awoke normal and alive. The MDs said never see 'that' psy again. So its professionally noted the Dr Ruths set me up. I believe he commented on my medicaiton calling it a 'BENZO!' as dietride. Well to me, hes a closet homosexual and a total retard of a phd student..... he also failed to read, that was my mood stabilizer was lithiuim and he STILL didnt RX it for me. This mans ignorance could have killed me, but Im smarter than him and Ive read more about these meds than him.Besides all of this, watch out, worst psy I ever had the displeasure of meeting, (Ventura has the WORST physical therapists, worst docs,and yes WORST psys) worst of all aside from MY bad experience...I KNEW MORE THAN HIM. Its like he was nervous reading through 101 book and picking out 'ANY' med, and gave me under 10 min...Hes uneducated, uninformed, not on top of anything, and hes used to prescribing and doping kids with 'seroquel' or 'lamotragine.' If I could give zero stars I would!!! I was a patient if Dr. Ruth's for years. I put my trust in him and he almost killed me. I was in his hospital three times in just a couple of years. I had never in my life been as bad as I was when seeing Dr. Ruth's. He had me on seven psychiatric drugs at one time. If one did not work he would add in another one until I did not even recognize myself. As I was getting worse he sent me for ECT. I Had 28 ECT treatments and was not getting any better. The last drug he put me on I kept telling him I was hallucinating and could not drive. He told me to give it more time. During that time I hit my lowest point ever and tried to kill myself. After I downed a bottle of 90 Ativan and realized what I had done I called him for help. He did not help....after I got out of the hospital and was at Vista Del Mar with him as my doctor he never even called to check in with me. This man is heartless!!!!! I immediately went to a different doctor who took me off if all meds. I went through hell with the withdrawal symptoms but I have since made it out to the other side. I have had a lot of therapy but I'm not on any meds and doing the best I have in years. My doctors today tell me that of coarse nothing he did worked. I did not have what he diagnosed me with.....if you give someone who is not bipolar bipolar meds they are going to feel worse not better!!! If this can help just one person out there then what I have gone through will not go without reward. I recommend that if you are not getting better please seek out another opinion.
