I talked to him for a few minutes yesterday and he was telling me that business has been steady, although it wavers a little due to the economy and so on. He said that sometimes business sees a spike as people who go to other dentists come to him for a second opinion regarding work that their original dentist suggested they have done. Dr. Brand told me that when he sees some of these people and hears about the recommended work, he doesn't see a need for some of it. So, if you are going to a dentist other than Dr. Brand and it's suggested to you that you need a lot of work done and for what sounds like a lot of money, schedule a trip to Dr. Brand's and have him take a look and give a second opinion. It could save you some money and any other inconveniences. Everyone at his office is very friendly and personable, and as far as I can tell his practice has a sterling reputation. If you're looking for a new dentist altogether or, at the very least & like I said, a second opinion, then consider this office. You're not likely to be disappointed! He is a great guy and dentist and his work is very professional.

WOW! Not only was Dr. Brand knowledgeable and surprisingly honest in what needed to be done versus what's not urgent....but the hygenists went through tooth by tooth (front and back), annotating the condition of tartar buildup (scale of 1-7 with 3 being acceptable and 7 really bad) for the center/right/left of EVERY tooth! Not only that, but they answered every question with surprisingly in-depth knowledge comparable to a Dentist! ....made my previous 'cleanings' mediocre in comparison. Now, if only I could find a mechanic/shop as awesome as this....

Hind sight being 20/20, our entire visit at this office felt like one sales pitch and "up sale"…read moreafter another. The front desk and dentist were both very friendly and welcoming, so it took me a bit to catch on. Everything seemed to be going well until toward the end of the visit. They have an Oral B electric toothbrush they're trying very hard to sell and entered into a long presentation about all of its features and benefits. Even going so far as to physically put the toothbrush in my hand, with a set of plastic teeth to practice on. Then telling me about the exclusive coupon they can offer to their patients making the toothbrush ONLY $115. Only?? They wanted me to buy it for the whole family since it'll save us way more than the cost of the toothbrush in dental bills. I declined to spend $460 on toothbrushes and they were not pleased, with a "can't believe you don't want to take care of your family's teeth" air about them. They only did X-rays and exams on my two children, stating that they don't do cleanings in the same visit. Ok, that's fine. So we did schedule appointments for cleanings and they presented me with a "cleaning plan" that they wanted me to sign. Sign? Odd... I look over the plan and they have scheduled a "Full Mouth Debridement" on both of my children, who have always had regular dental cleanings and their teeth are in fantastic condition, albeit they are a few months overdue right now. This is not fully covered by insurance so it was going to cost over $60 each. After inquiring about it, I learn that a Full Mouth Debridement = scrape the tartar off their teeth with the metal hook. Since when is tartar scraping not part of every dental cleaning ever? The receptionist seemed irritated by my ignorance now or that I would even question it and kept repeating "it would be irresponsible to polish teeth on top of tartar", as if I suggested that. My insurance covers regular cleanings 100% and this is the first time tartar removal has been a "special service" not covered by regular cleaning. Moving on, I see there's also a $25 charge for each child to receive some kind of rinse with a complicated name. I question what this is and I'm told it's an anti-bacterial rinse. $50 for an antibacterial rinse? Mouthwash?? I asked that she remove this service because I don't feel it's necessary. She is adamant that she cannot, it's required. I insist that it is removed and she's pretty frustrated with me at this point and with a small sigh she goes to ask the dentist if she can remove the rinse. He tells her she can, it's not necessary to have it. There's also a fee on the plan that they charge for each office visit, which explains why they want multiple visits when most dentists do exams, X-rays, and cleanings all in one. My insurance covers all regular dental exams, X-rays, and cleanings 100% with a small copay. My children have never needed anything extra or extensive because they've received regular dental care and even Ortho treatments throughout their entire lives. It's highly suspicious that they suddenly need $220 of extra services out of pocket beyond insurance coverage, plus $230 for new toothbrushes which will save us from all these added costs going forward. I immediately cancelled the cleaning appointments I made for both children. I also cancelled the 2 appointments I made for my husband and myself. Definitely not going back except to pick up our X-rays and go to a real dentist.

The X-rays were way more non invasive than other dental visits in my youth, and the tech was friendly, bubbly, and very careful to make sure I was comfortable. I love that you can see others while getting care, and it's hilarious to make eye contact with someone else while your mouth is stretched like a character from Beetlejuice. I laughed, a lot lol. My hygienist was a sweetheart, with an unmatched bedside manner. But my favorite part? Going over the recommended work (a root canal and cap for ya girl), and seeing the prices and not being forced to commit to anything. They even told me a way to avoid a root canal if it was too expensive, and how to care for my cavity until I was ready. Which I appreciated wholeheartedly!
