I expected representation. What I received was proximity without protection…read more I hired Stuart Peterson during a vulnerable stage of a family court case, expecting guidance, advocacy, and clear direction. Instead, I found myself navigating critical safety concerns largely on my own. When I asked for assistance with filing an Order of Protection, I was told that "wasn't what I hired him for." That moment revealed something I did not expect to discover in a lawyer: an unwavering belief in the limits of his role, even when a child's safety was central to the case. Throughout my engagement, important evidence I provided was not presented, court preparation was minimal, and communication about procedures was unclear. I repeatedly found myself unsure of what had been filed, what had been argued, or what to expect in hearings that determined my child's day-to-day reality. What made this even more disorienting was the tone of some of the commentary I received. Rather than focusing on legal strategy or documented concerns, discussions veered into personal territory -- including remarks about hormones and "rabbit holes" -- which felt dismissive during an already stressful time. Financially, I was billed for work that did not translate into courtroom action, clarity, or preparation. The imbalance between cost and tangible representation left me asking a question no parent should have to ask while paying for counsel: "Am I actually being represented?" I'm sharing this so other parents understand what I wish I had known: a lawyer can be physically present and yet functionally absent. Family court is not theoretical. It involves children, safety, and irreversible outcomes. Clients deserve a legal advocate who sees the gravity of that -- not someone who treats concerns as detours. I cannot recommend this firm based on my experience.

Going through a divorce .... "RUN as fast as you can towards attorney Michelle J. Perkins." Owens…read moreand Perkins Law Firm Prior to hiring Michelle Perkins I was with a different law firm for almost 2 years and my case at the time continued to drag out hearing one excuse after another by my previous attorney to why it was taking so long, as well his justifications to his high monthly bill costs. The stress left me crippled and I didn't know how to stop this emotional and financial bleeding but to just end it, but how do you do that in the middle of divorce proceeding! I am from the south with a great upbringing. I realized that I needed and "old school" type soul with honesty, integrity and for sure someone with compassion. I know in general that attorneys that handle divorce cases are focused on numbers and business as they should be, but I was alone, very sick, angry and very scared and needed emotional support even though generally that is not there job. I was under so much stress at the time and knew what I wanted in an attorney now, after experiencing the previous attorney, as well as the stress of so much lost money and nothing ever being accomplished and the divorce stagnant in the waters. One might call my meeting Michelle, a "Devine Intervention," because all I remember at the time was Michelle at the top on my computer screen every time I googled search and there she was with what appeared to be the "old school manners and smarts" that I wanted and desired. I watched a video of Michelle on her website where she worked with her grandfather in the family law firm and noticed her many awards and accolades as well and again fitting the "old school well mannered, professional and compassionate conservative" which is exactly what I was looking for. During my initial meeting with Michelle she listened very carefully to my situation and as well all my mis-emotions ;-) and her responses were intelligent and right on par. I told Michelle that my health could not take the stress so she had to push this case forward as fast as possible while at the same time being sure my future was protected. Michelle not only moved my divorce case along but during the same period of time she sadly lost her dear father and was also care giving for her over 100 year old attorney grandfather and grandmother. All through my time working with Michelle she stayed focused to my case, never showed her own emotions and continued to be the utmost stellar professionalism from beginning to end... and somehow all at the same time, she even managed to deal with my emotional distresses! Michelle read every line in my divorce decree, staying up endless nights while falling asleep on her own sofa to comply with my wishes to get the job done and my divorce was final November 2024 with excellence. If I were a teacher grading her paper, I would give her an A+ Excellence with stars.

They were professional, strategic, responsive, and genuinely cared about doing what was best for my son, Leo. At every step, they explained the process clearly, kept me grounded, and made sure my focus stayed where it belonged, protecting my child and his future. This outcome means everything to our family, and it wouldn't have been possible without their dedication, experience, and heart. It's rare to find attorneys who are this sharp and this human. I'm incredibly grateful to have had them in my corner and would recommend them without hesitation to anyone facing a family law matter.

It is now HALF A YEAR LATER and he will not respond to us. I have sent multiple emails -- SEE SCREENSHOT from my Sent emails -- NO RESPONSE. In my last 2 emails I asked if he could just give us our digital file so we could take it to a lawyer who actually serves their clients. NO RESPONSE. My husband called and left a message -- NO RESPONSE. This is the kind of person he is so beware! His website is active and his business is active but it seems likely that he is taking initial fees from clients and then never communicating with them again. I will now have to hire and pay ANOTHER LAWYER so they can contact this "lawyer" and send him a legal letter to obtain the files that we have already paid for! I'm also CONTACTING THE BAR to report him and I hope other victims of his total lack of ethics will as well!

Los errores son constantes y los resultados simplemente no existen. This firm showed me a pattern of behavior that no client should ever ignore: Basic mistakes on simple tasks like change‑of‑address forms- repeated, careless, and never corrected. Constant turnover of paralegals, forcing clients to repeat the same information because no one communicates internally. Misleading "Spanish‑speaking" advertising. Only the paralegals speak Spanish. The attorneys do not. More communication from billing than from the attorney. When the billing department contacts you more than your lawyer, the priorities are clear -- and they are not the client. The attorney introduced at the beginning was NOT the attorney assigned after payment. That switch alone is a major red flag. My assigned attorney does not appear anywhere on the firm's own team webpage. That lack of transparency is unacceptable. Online reviews show a pattern of detailed complaints that match my experience, yet the firm responds with generic "contact us for feedback" messages instead of addressing the issues. The money disappears fast, and the work does not reflect the cost. The value, communication, and results do not match what they charge. Something is off about how this place operates. The mismatch between their five‑star ratings and the consistent complaints about money and lack of results is impossible to ignore. I'm writing this so others don't have to go through what I did. The lack of consistency, transparency, and professionalism is alarming, and the firm's priorities are nowhere near where they should be.

That reflects the zero effort put into my representation. When I had my initial meeting with them they summarized the same exact terms of the stipulations this was even after I gave him my financial profile as I'm retired living on Social Security with no additional income with both my income and bank account exempt from garnishing or levies. I was looking for a payment plan or settlement that included dismissal of this suit. I understand the representation was limited in scope & the attorney stated more than once the $796 I paid him was nothing & other firms would cost double for this but not to the point where there was zero effort in an attempt to negotiate which by the way per the retainer does include negotiating. Regardless of the back story the end result was this firm who was supposed to be representing me and my interests to some extent was pushing me on July 7th to sign a Stipulated Judgment on a case that had been dismissed on July 2nd. That's an enormous mistake.
