I want to share my disappointing experience with Randy, the owner of Metro Fitness. I moved In July…read moreand was committed to investing in my health before starting a really stressful job. In July, I purchased a $700 pass for 10 personal training sessions as part of a "summer special", with the promise that a master's-educated trainer would be available. Unfortunately, that trainer never started working at the gym, and I was not informed of this until late September--months after waiting and following up. Despite knowing my schedule, Randy repeatedly suggested trainers who were already fully booked. He then set me up with an unqualified intern who worked at the front desk. When I expressed my concerns, he acknowledged that this wasn't acceptable and offered Pilates as an alternative. However, that turned out to be another false promise, as no sessions or teachers were actually available. After months of back and forth and empty promises, I requested a refund, as it was clear I was not receiving the services I had paid for. Randy initially agreed but then delayed the refund, citing financial excuses like needing to wait until after the "metro gala." By November, I still hadn't received my money, and he stopped responding to my calls and texts entirely. Now it is mid January. This has been a frustrating and disheartening experience, especially as someone in a low-paying position after completing graduate school. I share this in hopes of warning others about this gym and Randy's business practices. If anyone has advice on handling situations like this, I would greatly appreciate your guidance. As an aside, I had a bad experience with a trainer there who was really creepy and asked extremely personal questions. Most of the gym is dedicated to the personal training space. There are never wipes or cleaning supplies convenient or restocked to clean equipment after use.

Douglas, my trainer, is pushing me the right amount to make a difference and I always leave feeling good about the work I've done and his partnership in my progress. Also it's just a great gym. It's a great place to focus on the workout but you always run into cheerful people that work there.

The staff is friendly and does not turnover much so they actually know your name. There are two…read morewomen-only rooms. Trainers are very good and the cost goes down when signing up for more sessions. The staff is experienced in working with older age clients too; several members are in their 50s thru 90. There is a pool recently redone. No pretenses here, clients feel free to sweat. Yoga classes, cycling, and intensity are well attended. Hoping for more remodeling and floor cleaning of clasworkout room between classes.

In total 800 dollars being pulled that cannot be used. The owner could have simply reversed the single 400 dollar charge and refused even after I told them about the injury the next day at the hospital again which I was not told that if I brought the letter from my surgeon or doctor my account would be put on hold and prevent more charges. Cannot return and would not return as well as will be telling every other veteran about the case so they can avoid this stressful situation. All they had to do was inform me at the time of the injury when I contacted them to avoid this to reiterate...the owner also thinks she's a doctor telling me what occurred isn't a permanent disability like she knows better than an upstate hospital doc.

I just recently started working out, trying to get into shape. A friend of mine had been going to…read morethe local YMCA for a month or two now and encouraged me to go with him. I'm definitely glad I did. The staff is fairly helpful, some more so than others. The rates for membership are greatly reduced for college students, but you can't really put a price on being able to stay healthy. There are a wide, wide variety of machines available for use - from your typical treadmill to more advanced and specialized machines. In the middle of the day, there usually isn't too many people there, but later on towards the evening it starts getting more busy. They also offer several classes, Zumba being one of them, but I haven't looked into any details. There is a full locker room with lockers, shower, toilets, and sinks for the regular visits. Out near the machines is a water fountain and scale to weigh oneself. All-in-all it is a well featured gym with plenty of ways to get and stay in shape.

The rest is history. The staff who first greeted me--Matt and Diane--are so kind, cordial, and welcoming, not to mention knowledgeable, I had to keep investigating. The facilities--although parts are over 20 years old--are in great shape. So far have only swum, taken Silver Sneakers workouts, and used sauna and steam rooms, but I am hooked. The pool is not crowded; Patty and Vera, SS instructors super good and hilarious and the other ladies and gents are welcoming and helpful too. I also see children, teens, serious muscle-builder types too there for various activities. It's a real gem in this part of CNY. Try it--but don't use the pool please. Want to keep it to myself! :- )
