What a nice down to earth place to relax with some friends or family. I really like the use of the bow end of a boat as the bar! Definitely fits with the waterfront view of the Nonesuch River. For food I got 1/2 dozen oysters with a champagne mignonette & shared the Caesar salad with shrimp....both were very good. The drinks were good. Our server was prompt and friendly. Price wise for food & drinks it was quite affordable. I give 4 stars as a 1st visit being we chatted with a few other barflys who also mentioned that they luv the place...good food, good drinks, good service & affordable. So give the Stern a try & Enjoy!

Right on the pier, you can absolutely taste how fresh everything is here. A beautiful view of the water, and plenty of delicious seafood selections to choose from. I went with the lobster bisque to start, which was absolutely delicious, and topped with plenty of delicious lobster. For my meal I had to try the lobster roll, which was absolutely huge! It was just as delicious as it was large. It would have been the perfect meal, until the waitress spilled ketchup all over my new white shoes and jeans. I was less than amused at that point, especially regarding the lack of trying to help fix the situation at all. Sadly, I spent a good portion of our trip trying to get the stains out following this incident.

This restaurant is a small little place I would want to say on a loading doc? My family came here bc they wanted to go crabbing for some baby crabs in the water.. while they did that a few of us went inside to eat. We ordered a few things and nothing really hit the spot for us. Everything was cold and bland. We barely ate our food snd just packed it to go as I didn't not want to complain.

Off the beaten path, but definitely need a reservation. Casual yet not necessarily a beach bar or clam shack either. Full bar, quality meals, moderate pricing, ASTOUNDING views of the mouth of the marsh at Pine Point. Quick service even in a packed house. We can be choosy; my mother the lobster roll expert didn't think hers was "flavorful" enough. Also be sure to ask for your salad dressing on the side, there was a soaking that covered up any taste of the vegetables. Crab cakes snd mussels were exceptional, and though we didn't have dessert tonight, word on the street was the blueberry cake is outstanding.

Stern is a cute seafood restaurant in Maine. The menu is on the smaller side and has a lot of great options. There's something for everyone. Outside there is seating as well as a boardwalk overlooking a marsh and the ocean. I caught the sunset with some friends after eating dinner and it was so nice. The vibes are great. The bar is really cool too. Made out of the stern of an old ship. I would recommend ordering the oysters. They were delicious and super fresh. Loved the fries and lobster roll too. Cant go wrong!

As we wandered around Portland we had to have dinner, right? So this was our first night out, and we picked Stern. The food was good. The settings were amazing. Literally our table was right next to the window and we could look out over the water. I am a huge fan of fish and chips. This was a huge piece of fish and was perfectly prepared. I didn't like the chips, they were overcooked so I took one star. But overall the experience was wonderful!

Fried clams were excellent, and we had a widow table overlooking the water. Ambience was delightful for a casual, summer seafood place.

Would this restaurant be accessible for a person using a wheelchair?

There are a couple of steps into the dining room. I don't recall if the outside deck has steps. Best to give them a call.

Paws down, it's The Bait Shed! Not only is it a perfect spot for waterfront dining, but the staff is absolutely exceptional. They treat four-legged guests like royalty. Every time I visit, I get my very own burger cooked to paw-fection () and served in a frisbee, with fresh water in a cool red beach pail. Talk about first-class service for us pups! After I clean my plate, I drag my human over to Pine Point Beach for a stroll. Gotta sniff, wag, and maybe chase a seagull or two. Sad news though... the Bait closes on 9/28/25. But don't worry--I'll be back next year. Tail waggin', paws ready, frisbee plate and all!

What everyone's saying regarding parking is true: there's a small lot but even during lunch it was nearly full. Plenty of seafood options and drinks to enjoy on a summer day. The prices were steep, but comparable to what you'd see in most of the beachy areas. The strawberry lemonade was a refreshing and sugary delight. There were two older ladies behind us having the time of their lives with two electric blue colored drinks. The bowl of chowder was a large portion for $12 and a pack of oyster crackers. Salty, flavorful and plenty of clams. The lobster roll was priced at $33/$44/$50ish for amount of meat. My husband and I split the "medium" sized and requested them to halve it for us. It was a good sized portion to share, with chips and a side of coleslaw. Service was neighborhood friendly and on a sunny day, sitting out on the water with freshly caught seafood leaves little room to complain - even if the prices are a little steep!

I did a similar meal at street & co as I did scales - oysters and scallops. I enjoyed the scallops slightly better at scales but this was still a win. And the octopus! Don't be afraid of that order, it was outstanding. We also sampled desserts and I was blown away. I wish I could go back more often, another phenomenal meal in Portland.

What an amazing dinner! Everything was perfect from start to finish…read more The space is beautiful. It's down a cobblestone alleyway, and the interior is cozy and rustic. It feels like a secret, but I know it's not a well kept one! Our server Nico (apologies if I've misspelled that!) was wonderful. He was friendly and helpful when we made our dinner choices. The other servers were also always on top of keeping our table clear and our water filled. The food was absolute perfection. We started with a salad and grilled octopus. The salad was bright and acidic which paired perfectly with the best octopus dish I've had. It was so tender and delicious, I've never had octopus that was that tender. The grilled flavor came through immediately, but never overwhelmed the delicate flavor of the octopus. For mains I had sole francaise and my husband had bone in monkfish. The sole was melt in your mouth good. It was lightly breaded and cooked in a pan with brown butter. It was so toasty and nutty and coated the green beans and simple, but perfect, red potatoes it was served with. My husband's monkfish was fresh and perfectly toothsome, served with fluffy Roman gnocchi and romesco sauce. My only regret is not having enough room for dessert because I'm sure it's incredible as well! I can't wait to return the next time we're in Portland. Just to note: this is one of the least accessibility-friendly areas of the city. The old cobblestone road that it's located on is foot traffic only. The closest approach is if you're dropped off at the end of and it you would still have a short distance to travel. There is a brick footpath on the sides of the cobblestone road that is slightly smoother, but still not ideal. Earlier in the day I was able to navigate the street okay on foot so it will depend on your capabilities. That being said, I took my motorized travel chair down there in the evening and Street and co were happy to let me fold it up and store it near the door.
