The Harbours Apartments - Clubhouse

The Harbours Apartments

(75 reviews)

I have lived at The Harbours for almost 22 years. I have seen the best living and "the not so…read moregood" while living here. The past couple of years have been the worst. Many crimes (shootings, car thefts, vandalism of cars, stalkings) are being committed and little is being done to change that. While the staff informs the residents that things are being done about it, the crime keeps happening almost daily. Prior to 2021, I felt safe living here. Not so much now. The apartments are very outdated, many going back to 1988 and not much (if any) updates are being made inside the apt units. The amount of rent for moving in, now, is well over $1400 (2 bed, 1 bath in oldest units - much higher if you want their newest) with high security deposits, which people will never see again when they leave. Leave early from a lease and it will cost you over $3000. The 15-month leases are in effect, now. Mandatory Renter's Insurance. While it a good idea to have insurance, it is now forced. Also, it can be tricky to have your own outside renter's insurance. It can lead to being double charged for their insurance and yours. Consider carefully if you plan on moving here. As I stated earlier, I have lived here a long time. There are good reasons for the lengthy stay. Main reason is heat (gas)/water/trash, access to pools and gym are included with rent. They have resort like pools. Lighted carports, available. Pets allowed, but that can be good or bad. Landscaped outside areas are well cared for. Wildlife is abundant, however, the nuisance geese are pretty bad when their numbers are near 100 in one pond/lake. Maintenance was very, very good except for the past 2 years. Much longer wait time... up to 10 days most times. Decent snow removal both street and sidewalks. You can pay your rent online and/or autopay each month. Office staff, including management have been pretty nice, but lately they are unable to help with maintenance or the crime issues. The Harbours DO allow security cameras, but there are a few restrictions. No cameras in carports. You can have doorbell cameras on the older apartments, but they're not allowed on most apartments because of privacy concerns. Also, they can't be on the building walls or secured to the door with screws. While living here (in this day and age) does have many drawbacks, overall, I still think it is okay. However, if the crime continues like it has been, then I too, will be moving out, asap. When at home, you should feel safe knowing you, your family and your auto are secure. Lately, that isn't happening here at The Harbours. If they fix that and some other issues listed above, then this place will be a decent place to live once again.

This place started off ok but upon moving out they were horrible !!!!!! I went to Jonathan one of…read morethe office managers for guidance on properly leaving the properly vacating the premises. The office sends you a letter when you are close to end of lease , so I wanted clarification . Jonathan advised a certain date to email the company for my love out date. I sent the email . The day I loved out I cleaned the apartment thoroughly bath tubd ,walls , and vacuumed carpet . I owed a balance and paid in full day of move out. I checked the portal within the next few says with a $0 balance . Them they come sending my final bill stating I owned over $2,000 . Charges were for breaking the lease , carpet repair 1,400, glazing if 2 tubs and $260 . Court fees ??? .... I called Jonathan to confirm our conversation and to ask him why would he advise the incorrect information . He has been advoiding me. I would NEVER recommend this place !!! The coorperate is very rude also

It's very quiet, clean and welcoming. It's actually feels like a single-family one-story home. It's very spacious and the huge 2 car garage is a bonus! The appliances are much smaller than we'd like though. The main tub and master bedroom shower are ridiculously very small, however; we are learning to live with these downfalls. No community is 100% perfect of course, however; we are glad to call Redwood our home. We had an option to move elsewhere not too far from here, however, due to the open floor plan with cathedral ceilings we chose here and are glad we did. The monthly food trucks are very appreciated for those nights I don't cook dinner (which is very few). The office manager, "Lonnie" and his team are very professional, friendly and business oriented. I love the way this office is ran. I have been a customer service professional for over 30 years, so I, personally appreciate it when I see others providing the same level of good customer service to others, especially my husband and I. The maintenance guy is absolutely the best! He is friendly, prompt and attentive. The turnaround time is stellar (1 day or less)! This sets this community apart from others, the wait time for maintenance requests at our previous community was 3-4 days. Overall, we are super satisfied living here, and plan to call Redwood our home for a long time. It's a lot of things we will never compromise on when living somewhere, some being: comfort, convenience, and quietness, and this is exactly what we found at Redwood :).

Before you read all the bad reviews, let me remind you that you cannot expect apartment life to be…read morelike the life you'd have as a homeowner. Yes, nothing will ever be as you imagine and want, leave that for when you are a homeowner. I too complained in the beginning, but that's because I lived as a homeowner for a long time. I forgot that some people are not tidy, and some smoke weed, and argue and don't take care of their pets. Still, the worst I experienced was some weed smell, and shortly after complaining, the people I thought were doing it indoors were gone. Most smoke, whatever they smoke, on their balconies. I have never seen issues with pets, bags are provided by the complex and there is nothing on the grounds ever. Pets are registered and DNA tested and rules are in place. People follow the rules from what I see. I rather enjoyed all the pets here and watching people connect through their pets. Kids play outside in playgrounds and it is great to see that. I can tell you that a lot has changed, most of the staff and management are new and have been more than nice to me, especially Megan the manager. I see a lot of updates being done, both cosmetic and major ones; like updated kitchens and laminate flooring being installed. I rented my apartment prior to updates, still it was very nice, everything in working order. I took a lot of pictures and videos so I am not worried about having issues moving out. I lived here for a year and never once called maintenance. Not even a lightbulb changed. It is a great location and grounds are maintained well. It feels very safe here, I have not seen or heard of any issues. It is still very quiet and worry free living here. Until you buy a house, renter's life will be rather similar everywhere so be cautious of negative reviews and just visit, take a look and get a feel of the community. Great location, nice apartments inside and out, and price is reasonable for the area.

Give me a tim They put entirely too much money and effort into the grounds-- which aren't that great. The building I have been in has had siding falling off. The windows are super cheap. The people that live above me are a MASSIVE problem. Weed and noise are constant issues here. This place is definitely a section 8 apartment complex and it shows. The maintenance staff is extremely lazy and does just the minimum to get by. Rent is very high for what you get here Best part is they don't pro rate rent! I paid a full month and they are happy to get me out here.

Here is my honest review with pros and cons: -Pros: cheap, good distance from all of the shopping centers, right next to M-59, dog friendly, has a dog park, maintenance comes within a couple of hours, emergency maintenance after hours comes relatively fast, two full bathrooms in two bedroom units, Shelby Twp PD is always patrolling (I find that to be a good thing), snow removal is somewhat decent, lawn care is somewhat decent, never had to struggle to get in contact with leasing office, somewhat friendly people living here -Cons: squirrels living inside the walls, neighbors NEVER pick up dog poop, can hear upstairs neighbor walking very easily, a lot of small bugs (traps and sprays will be your friend), windows don't offer well insulation in winter, carpet is cheap, paint inside the bathroom tears easily, maintenance does the bare minimum 90% of the time, neighbors throw their cigarette butts all over the grass Moral of the story; it's an OK place to live if you're on a budget. It gets the job done without a ton of stress. Just be mindful that you get what you pay for. This isn't a 5 star place, but it isn't a dump either.

They told her paper statements and / or screenshots of the statements would not work because her checks from the company are hand written. They were incredibly rude about them being 10-99. Sounds like they are unwilling to work with people who can prove they make enough simply because of their banks / how they get paid. She did also send in her IRS tax form which they claimed did not work. Sounds like 10-99 discrimination to me! ***They also would not refund her app fee even though the problem was not on her end.
