Our son simply cannot wait for their meetings. Additionally, our oldest son, now at Duke University, completed CA's ACT test prep program two years ago. My daughter started getting psychiatric care to manage her meds - after MONTHS of being on a wait list we finally got someone and have seen her 3 times only and she cut her hours and no longer has availability for us. After WEEKS of emailing back and forth and talking with a case worker and asking to speak to a manager I finally got the manager to call me only to tell me there is no one else we can transfer to to get medication management care. Months and weeks of this. And no email response either from the manager, Mary is her name. They can't keep track of anything either. I'm only staying because my kids do like their therapists and need to see therapy and we have state insurance and can't find much care elsewhere, but having being dropped and having to start over and over is infuriating. Don't waste your time at this place. They are not worth it. Also, they have a policy that says they can drop you if you don't give them 24 hour notice oof you need to cancel. It seems like only one of my kids therapists stated this and not the other, so it's inconsistent. If my kid is sick coming home from school and I need to cancel, they said they could drop us. What a joke! Don't waste your time here.

In fact I'm in worse shape then when I started with them. 4 therapists and 2 psychiatrists in that time. It's hard to make progress when I'm continuity starting over. I have had to start from the beginning every time. It's like a launching pad for therapists fresh out of school. They get a couple of years there and then move on to better jobs. To make matters worse, most of the administrative staff are so rude and not knowledgeable. From the receptionist through the Sr VP. All defending the problems, never taking responsibility. They have made several billing problems; from running my credit card,without my consent, when I had no appointment, to overcharging. It takes multiple phone calls and a lot of time to get these issues resolved. Not to mention how rude and combative these people are. Having to interact with them is a nightmare. With the exception of Frannie in billing and Carolina. Whom both go out of their way to be helpful and kind. Given the fact people go there at low points in their lives, you'd think they'd be a little compassionate and helpful. I was without a psychiatrist and capable therapists for over 6 months. I can honestly say I'm worse off from when I started with them. Sadly, my insurance isn't accepted there and behavioral health people are in high demand right now. They have a sliding scale. I first entered the school in the parent and tot program and quickly fell in love. The teachers and families quickly felt like home. It was the perfect thing for my child and I to meet some local families and get our child comfortable with a school environment. It's such an easy way to become part of the community. The classrooms are all so cute and foster such a fun environment for kids to play - they have something for everyone. I love how excited our kids get when we tell them we're taking them to school and the giant smiles on their faces because they've had such a great day in class. NFCNS is such a special community and I feel so lucky we came across it. It made something that can be such a stressful decision a no-brainer for our family and I can't wait as our children continue to grow in the school.

My son has been seeing Teresa for many years. She worked for Julie Kahn & Associates (another…read morefabulous practice) in Highland Park for awhile and then opened up her own practice in Northfield this summer. Teresa specializes in myofunctional therapy, which uses physical therapy exercises to improve breathing, facial posture and bite. While my son is expected to be in speech for longer he's made great improvements thanks to Teresa, a tongue tie procedure last year and starting orthodontics on the earlier side with Dr. Boyd (a dentist located in the city who specializes in airways). Teresa herself makes therapy fun for my son and he's always happy to go. He's been doing this a long time now so I appreciate that she finds ways to make it fun so that he doesn't get too sick of it. She's also been very helpful when it comes to speaking with Dr. Boyd, our ENT, and the speech therapists at his school. In fact, the therapists at school were so wow'd with Teresa that they even brought her in at one point to do a training for them. The only negative is that Teresa does not take insurance, although from my own research I found it difficult to find a speech therapist who specializes in myofunctional therapy that does take insurance. We did find someone many years ago, but she wasn't nearly as good as Teresa so this is money well spent. I do submit my bills to insurance every week and a little bit is covered each time. I do hope we get thru his treatment soon between the high therapy bills every month + time spent, but I do know that Teresa takes great care of him and has his best interest at heart.

My math loving first grader used to beg me to go here wherever we would pass by it on our way to…read moreOnce Upon a Bagel. So last October thought I'd make his wish come true and took him and his big sis for an assessment. He thought it was super fun (again, loves math). Big sis thought the assessment itself was a bit torturous, but was all about coming back once she learned that you could win prizes for completed worksheets. Days after their initial assessment I chatted with Chris about their needs and the mathnasium program. I really wanted to sign up, but between their busy schedules, my crazy work schedule & having to schlep their little brother one more place I didn't think I'd be able to get them there enough to make the cost worth it (approximately $700/month total for the 2 of them). Six months later I found myself reaching out to Chris after being underwhelmed with their e-learning experiences during Covid-19. They had both come so far in math this year and didn't want them to lose these skills. While going to the mathnasium center cleary isn't an option right now they developed an online platform that I was interested in trying. Since it had been 6 months of learning Chris suggested a re-assessment. The platform itself seems to work just fine, although logging in multiple kids from the same family can be a bit tricky at first. It took me 20 min to get them set up, but then they got to work...and were done 1-1.5 hours later with their assessment. Chris followed up the next day with their scores and we chatted later that week in detail. I signed both kids up and while you have the flexibility to decide when they go during their open hours, I've picked consistent times on MWF afternoons for both kids. As of now they don't open until 12pm during the week so we've been doing 1:30pm appointments. It's fine, but mornings would be more ideal since we prefer to get our learning done earlier in the day...and play all afternoon. They've done a week of sessions now and seem to be enjoying it...even my daughter who doesn't love math. They really enjoy working with one of the tutors, Logan, and the majority of the morning in my house is now spent bickering on who is going to be the lucky one to work with Logan. Today they both scored big with Logan as their tutor- whoo hoo! My daughter can be especially particular when it comes to who her teacher is and Chris said he would put a note in her file that she prefers Logan, which was very appreciated. I'm really happy I signed them up and think it's just what both of them needed on top of the e-learning they are getting from the district. I can even send their homework to Chris and he makes sure the tutor works with her on it. I also think the online platform works well and would maybe even consider continuing this way post Covid-19 since it's one less ride (although how I do miss my carpool days!). The price is fine right now since my kids are going pretty often, but when life returns to normal I'd love to see them offer a punch card. I think it would be great to keep up with their math skills during the summer and beyond, but know more than once a week won't be possible once we're thrown back into our busy lives. I'd also love to see them come up with an online prize program to incentivize the kids (beyond working with Logan of course :)). They are apparently keeping track of worksheets to get physical prizes once the center reopens, but there's no reason they can't or shouldn't partner with a local business now for ice cream, donuts or anything else that gets those math minds working. Like everyone else they are just trying to figure out the virtual world so I imagine this will happen if they continue virtually for much longer. Overall, highly recommend for anyone who's looking to get their kids extra math practice or challenge them. Thanks to Chris, Logan & the rest of the mathnasium team for keeping my kids thinking during this crazy time.
