When I told them i couldn't afford the fine, they told me the only way to not pay was to leave the practice, so after being patient for almost 12 years we are on the hunt for a new dentist. It's pretty heartbreaking because we really loved the dentists there and were about to spend $8k for braces (which is why the $200 fine felt like a big hit), but clearly the $200 meant more to them than the loyalty of a longtime patient.

I soon found out why all my coworkers and their children chose to get their ortho treatment from Dr. Chen and rave about their office. In my first appointment, I received such a warm welcome from Dr. Chen, the front desk staff and the dental assistants. Dr. Chen was also very detailed and informative of my treatment in simple terms that was easy to understand, answered all my technical questions truthfully, gave me a realistic time frame of when I should be done with my braces and was receptive to any ideas I had about how my teeth should look. He is also very chill and easy to talk to and still be professional when he needs to be. The assistants were also more than friendly and accommodating to your needs from assisting you in the chair and adjusting anything in your mouth that doesn't feel comfortable to giving you extra floss threads and rubber bands. I think the best part is that the whole experience felt very personal as Dr. Chen and many of the front desk and assistants do remember me from previous visits. Dr. Chen and the staff really do their best in making sure you have everything you need to get to your end goal and making your ortho experience as easy and comfortable as possible! Even after I was finished with braces and am currently wearing my retainers, Dr. Chen was very open to helping me make any adjustments to my teeth if I saw anything I didn't like. There is also a staff member who touches the hardware without gloves. This incident occurred twice. I've seen all, but this one staff member, change their gloves often. During the visit, they can play a movie to watch while they lay down to distract them. And after the visit, they have a lot of stickers to choose from. And they also offer a coin from the gum ball machine for a small toy to come out (no gums/candies) that my boys love to use and watch the toy roll down. We've always had such a great experience coming, so much that our boys ask when's their next dentist visit haha. The staff accommodates our schedule well and tries to get them in a back to back or same time slot appt, very helpful for us busy parents. Keep in mind they only have 1 or limited Saturdays open a month, so book early. The only area that could use improvement is the front desk. Greetings are inconsistent when we walk in, and when they do occur, they can come across as perfunctory and not genuine. I work in healthcare as well and understand how busy things can get, but a simple smile, a gesture to sit down, or a quick "hold please" to acknowledge my presence goes a long way. He was also thorough in explaining things to me as the parent and helping me understand what I could be doing better of to better take care of my kids' teeth. Each area is set up with a TV monitor on the screen playing a kid friendly movie which distracts the child when they are in the chair. They also got some stickers after their service and when checking out at the front, they got some coins that they could put into a gum ball machine and get some prizes.
