If you have ever worked in a toxic workplace you will sense it here. No one smiles unless it's time to interact with you. Everyone is on pins and needles because they know the purpose: move as many kids through as possible, as quickly as possible, with as little attention to the individual as possible. They are fundamentally unhappy people, you can tell, when they greet you when they go through their scripted lines to get you moving as quickly as possible. A fake smile here to reassure the unwary. Toxic. It comes out in other ways too. If you ask too many questions, ask for alternatives, discuss what is happening, these are things that slow down the conveyor belt. These are absolutely not greeted with happiness, and can land you in hot water. This horrid, well polished treadmill will not give you the service your child deserves. Go elsewhere.

I am extremely upset and honestly shocked by the level of care we received at this office…read more I brought my almost 6-year-old son, who has a disability, in because his face was swollen, his mouth smelled bad, and he had a fever. It was very obvious he had a serious dental issue, likely an infection. Instead, we were seen by someone named Soha Hemmat, who introduced herself as a doctor, but based on this experience, I seriously question her competence. She spent less than two minutes examining my son. No thorough check, no concern, no effort. She dismissed everything as "just a virus," told us to brush his teeth and give him Tylenol, and walked out like the situation didn't matter. That was completely wrong -- and dangerously negligent. My son's fever continued, and his condition did not improve. We had to contact his actual doctor and take him back to be seen again just six hours later. He was properly examined and diagnosed with a clear infection, and immediately given antibiotics. This could have gotten much worse because of her careless and dismissive attitude. I have been coming to this office for four years and have always had professional experiences, which makes this even more disappointing. But this encounter was unacceptable. No parent -- especially one with a child who has special needs -- should be brushed off like this. This office seriously needs to address this situation. Either provide proper training or reevaluate who they allow to treat patients, because this level of incompetence and lack of care is not just unprofessional -- it's dangerous. I love how kid-friendly the office is -- TVs in the ceiling, headphones, sunglasses, shows the kids can choose, and stuffed animals available for kids who need extra comfort. They also have separate rooms for procedures for privacy and to help keep other kids from getting nervous. They offer sealants, different fluoride flavors, and of course the prize box at the end. Our twins have regularly visited the dentist since they were small, and we really like this dentist office--even more than their old office where we used to live. Our four-year old twins just had their second regular visit of the year, and we are all very happy with this office. The office is clean, spacious, and bright. The front office staff members are very polite and helpful when we call and check in. For the first visit, the new patient forms are online--thankfully. The dental assistants are very skilled, kind, and patient. My twins see Dr. Allen. He is very calm and kind, and he always addresses the questions my husband and I have. I think what I am most impressed with, though, is the streamlined visits and timing. In our last visit, the dental assistants called us right back and started the appointment. There was minimal waiting time for the dentist when they were done. (Their old dentist was terrible timing.) Being on time and efficient is always important, but it is even more appreciated in light of COVID. Also, my kids get super happy with the goodie bag of fun toothbrushes and toothpaste, and they particularly love the flossers--I guess those are cooler than the ones we have at home! After receiving care, I submitted the claim to my dental insurance provider. The claim required escalation and is currently under active review by the insurer. This process was communicated clearly and in good faith, and I have documentation, including a claim number, demonstrating that the charge is under legitimate insurance review, not ignored or refused. Despite this: The office pursued payment while the insurance claim was unresolved asking for "just a small payment" while they wait. The matter was escalated to a third-party collector before insurance determination There appears to be no reasonable accommodation for standard insurance dispute timelines There was no transparent explanation of why the bill was deemed immediately collectible rather than pending insurance resolution Patients should not be pressured to pay balances that are actively under insurance review, particularly when the provider is aware that the insurer is evaluating coverage or reimbursement. This practice places patients in an unfair position--either paying out-of-pocket prematurely or being threatened with collections while complying with standard insurance procedures. Further, the billing escalation process appears to lack: Appropriate verification that insurance review was complete Ethical safeguards before referral to collections Clear written communication outlining patient rights during an insurance dispute While I respect the clinicians and the care I received, billing practices are part of patient care and ethical responsibility. Referring a patient to collections under these circumstances undermines trust and may violate professional and consumer standards. I am requesting that this matter be reviewed for: Compliance with ethical billing standards Appropriate handling of insurance-pending balances Policies regarding referral to collections Oversight of third-party billing or collection agents acting on the practice's behalf I am submitting this complaint in good faith to ensure accountability and to prevent similar experiences for other patients. edit: Owner responded - yes, this is for this business Lil Smile Dr. Toppi. I am also a healthcare provider and I know this is 100% unethical. They did send me to collections for $300 while my insurance was escalated.
