I was not made aware of this until checking out, or I would not have agreed to the procedure. I did ask if the X-rays were necessary and was informed they were mandatory. My suggestion is when a new, prospective patient calls in to make an appointment, it should be made clear exactly what the cost will be and why. As far as the exam is concerned, it was perfunctory and dismissive. I had nothing that needed attention...which I could have told him, or for that matter, he could have seen from my recent X-rays. As far as Dr. Couch is concerned, I found him abrasive and unprofessional, spouting a long-winded diatribe about his political beliefs and picking a fight about it, even after I said I wasn't interested in discussing politics. I would have much preferred he concentrate on my mouth, and not his!

Dr. Couch listened to my concerns and took action to make me comfortable throughout the procedure. I felt seen and heard, and had one of the best dental experiences of my life. Dr. Barry explained why I needed the work done and helped me to get on a schedule that I could live with (and pay for!). He and his staff are all very knowledgeable and friendly. He sold it to Melissa Ilgen, and I'm happy to be able to go back to a dentist in my neighborhood. And a real plus is I actually like dentist Melissa Ilgen. She bought the practice a couple of years ago, and I just started going to her about two or so months ago. She has a very caring staff from the folks in the front who deal with patients as they come in, to her hygienists and all the various assistants. They are very kind and caring people and I really appreciate that. I had to go in multiple times in order to get my night guard they made for me fixed. They couldn't seem to get it to fit properly each time, and I have another appointment next week for the same issue. That's the only issue that I've had so far. I give them a thumbs up otherwise.

This was for a complex porcelain crown replacement which I had never been through before. Dr. Harris and Jan were excellent in explaining everything that was going to happen. They checked with me constantly to ask if I was doing ok. I was pretty nervous but didn't experience any pain. I had not had a crown for decades and boy has technology improved. I called three offices in the area, and Steim Family Dentist was the only one that offered to get me in the next day!! Fast forward to procedure day. The front desk employees are welcoming and efficient. The office is clean and cozy. The dental assistant was so cheerful and helpful. She made sure I was comfortable and helped me feel calm. Another woman came in to inject the numbing medication. This woman was the absolute best!!!! I never felt the pinch or the pressure of the injection that I have always experienced in the past! No antibiotics were prescribed because the dentist claimed there was no significant infection. We later went to a specialist in Tacoma for an implant evaluation, only to discover the entire extraction site was severely infected. The Tacoma specialist had to perform a deep cleaning, and we were informed the probability of a successful implant is now very low due to how this was handled. Communication from the Sequim office has been terrible. I called twice and was promised a callback, which never happened. After sending a strong email, the dentist finally called, claimed everything was done properly, pointed out that there was actually another tooth that was infected and promised a follow-up email. That email never arrived. In the end, we deeply regret our decision to trust this office with his care. After thinking about this situation I realized that the dentist didn't offer refund. I thought I Would see Dr. Houpt and thought he was the only dentist there. I continued with the first appointment with a laundry list of recommended work for my 71 year old teeth including replacing old fillings etc. In the world or unlimited funds and time maybe that would be a good plan. I was going to wait to see the cost associated with the proposed plan which I have yet to receive. The purpose of my visit was to get a quote for bonding for chipped front teeth, nothing else was bothering me. I was also interested in the cost of veneers. When I got home I checked online what I could and learned Dr. Redgate had excellent school history for Dentristy, apparently worked as a dentist in the military and the only history I could find of dentistry in general public was in CA in 2021, changing offices in 2023 and now at Old Towne Dental in WA.. I certainly cannot know if there is more history with general public - this is what I could find online. I would love to see real patient reviews both from California and Washington. While serving as a Dentist in the military is relevant, serving as a Dentist to the general public is also important. I think the skill set would have differences, but I am not a dentist. I am someone who has seen many dentists over 70 years, some bad, some good, some excellent. It is hard to know until the work is done and then it is what it is. Therefore - public reviews from prior patients are important to me. I wish it was easier to select a dentist. I wish Old Towne Dental and its associates great success and many good reviews.
