First things, first. I have been a patient here for close to twenty years - through three different…read morepractice owners/dentists - and have always gotten great dental care. Brenda is probably the best hygienist I've ever been to. Personable and pleasant, thorough and knowledgeable - an all-around excellent hygienist. Dr. Settles is equally great. I cannot say enough good things about them or their treatment and skill level. The office staff, on the other hand, is abysmal. They routinely send out "bills" based on " insurance estimates", even after the participating insurance company has paid. Most recently I called to question a bill that both I and my insurance said was paid and that I owed nothing. This was the second time I received this bill and was now "past due." (Delta Dental told me it was paid within one week of my visit.) "Susan" initially took my call. Three different times I gave her my name and account number, and each time she tried linking me to a totally different patient. Finally, she transferred me to "Tina", the office manager. I have never been treated so rudely nor unprofessionally as Tina treated me. Tina first told me that the bill was automatically generated and there was nothing to be done about it. When I challenged her, she told me that was just the way it was and to ignore it. I pressed her by saying it needs to be fixed and that I did not want to end up in collections due to an automated erroneous "bill" (that is based on an estimate.) Again, Tina blew it off so I followed by saying that she knew there was error and wouldn't fix it, and that if I ended up in collections I reserved the right to sue for false billing; she/her office needed to fix this, that I was done dealing with it. Things went horribly sideways from that point on. Tina said she'd just "de-list" me and I'd never hear anything from them again. I replied by saying I had no intention of quitting the practice, only that I wanted the billing corrected. From that point onwards, Tina constantly over-talked me and wouldn't let me say anything. I tried telling her that I had already called Delta Dental, that Delta Dental told me I owed nothing, and that Wytheville Dental Group had been paid on June 21, 2023 for my June 14, 2023 office visit. I also kept trying to tell Tina that Delta Dental had provided a reference/event number. Tina kept over-talking me and wouldn't listen. I finally told her to "shut up and listen to me for just a minute." Tina then hung up the phone on me. I never got a chance to give her, nor anyone else, the reference number from Delta Dental. I tried calling back for the next fifteen minutes, but my calls were never answered. I can only presume Tina told the front desk to ignore my calls. I then reached out to Wytheville Dental Group via their Facebook page. Within an hour, someone named "Sherry" responded, saying she would call me "around 9 am" the following morning. Edited to add that Sherry is the overall practice manager. She called as promised, and was very professional and very apologetic, and she assured me that this issue will be addressed. I have been going to this place for a few years and generally have had good experiences. But I have…read morenoticed that the quality of care is going down. I think they don't care because frankly there is not a lot of competition in this area. But be careful not all of their dental hygienists know what they are doing. Most recently I went in for a routine cleaning and instead of my usual dental hygienist Alex Simpson. The entire time I was there she kept changing her grip, her hand kept shaking, and she kept hitting my gums and causing pain. Twice she pulled my lip with her water pick. Fortunately, it didn't get stuck so there was no damage. Eventually I asked her to stop midway. I was sure she will injure me. I asked her to get the doctor to so that he can just do the medical checkup. He indirectly defended her by claiming that my gums are just sensitive because there is build up between the gums and the teeth. Now I don't believe this explanation because in over 20 years of going to a dentist I have never experienced this. Furthermore, the office would not give me the hygienist's license number so I could file a complaint. First they claimed that they are not allowed to give it out. Then they claimed that they weren't even allowed to have it. Not sure if either of these things are true. Looks like the time is ripe for a new dentist to move into this area.

When I first called for an appointment I told the receptionist that I have a phobia about dentists and haven't been to one in years. Dr Munz asked if I needed anything to calm me down before I came in. I didn't take anything. They do the xrays where you just stand there and a machine takes all the xrays. No more prices of film jammed in your mouth! Dr Muntz then came in and asked if I was in pain anywhere and how I was holding up. He then explained a treatment plan for what I needed. I could choose what I wanted done. Previously I had found a coupon for free xrays and consultation from another dentist in Blacksburg. I went there and got the xrays and consultation. They wanted $7,00.00 for the work I needed done. I went to Dr Munz for a second opinion and his figure was $1600.00 I asked how come he was so much cheaper (I was afraid of getting burnt by choosing the lower cost). He explained that in the other dental place they were in a brand new building in a higher rent setting, offered you coffee, other beverages and snacks before you saw the dentist and other goodies. I'm so happy I went with Dr Munz, I go back often to finish up my dental problems. They even got me in as an emergency on Jan 2nd since I had an absessed tooth. My family and I will never go to another dentist as long as Dr Munz is there. By the way, the "free coupon" I had for the other dentist wasn't eligible since I didn't have any work done and the charged my insurance company $$$ for the consultation and xrays. Be sure to read the fine print when you are offered a "free consultation"!

I called and told them something needed to be done and was told it would take care of itself. Today I have little bumps all over my gums covering the bones with one fairly good sized one right in the middle up top. I never recieved one follow up call or offer to help with my problem. I think of this quack every time I put my dentures in and how much I regret going here for my dental work. If they are on tv trying to get patients avoid them a good dentist, doctor, or lawyer doesn't need to advertise on tv.

I was there for a limited exam and luckily they were able to do same day care. They were very thorough. I look forward to becoming a regular patient at this office.
