First off a fully furnished house with dish, dvd player, and all the other great amenities and placed right on the water with you're own private dock is a rare find (not that we used much more than the coffee maker due to all the fishing). Personally I spent much of the weekend kayak fishing and boat fishing with my buddy, and the ladies enjoyed the peace and solitude that water front property in the north woods of WI affords. Suffices to say we are very happy with the weekend, especially compared to more than double the rates we have paid in the past for a run down cabin much more removed from the water. Lastly..taking a boat across the lake to a bar/restaurant to enjoy a few WI brews and deliver a great pizza back to the house at 11pm is an experience I'll not forget. All in all - great experience, and we'll be back. Highly recommended.

I stayed at the Homestead cottage over Memorial Day weekend. It was my first time there, but my…read morefamily has been going there twice a year for fourteen years. It is a rather quiet locale, with only the occasional loud boaters and barky dogs at whom to make disapproving faces. The cottage we were in had a rather sloped backyard leading to the lake. It wasn't a difficult climb for me, but I could imagine anyone with mobility issues having a more trying time of it, especially considering there are no stairs. The TVs were plentiful (living room, bar area, bedrooms, even a bathroom), but they don't seem to all get the same channels. They did have a good enough variety of them, though. We even had a Bose radio (the one from the commercials) that put out some decent sound. Be sure to bring your own bedding (they charge extra if you use theirs... don't ask me why) and paper goods. They had a decent supply of plates, serving dishes, bowls, silverware, steak knives, and (most importantly) a corkscrew. The lake itself is oddly shaped, but that makes for more interesting boating excursions. Fishing off of the dock right behind the house yielded some bluegill, a perch, a couple of bass, and a few northern. Fishing from a boat resulted in one muskie. The water near the shore isn't too weedy, but it's also not very deep (about 3 feet at the end of the pier). I have AT&T, and I was able to get 4-5 bars of phone reception and a fine GPS signal, but practically no data signal. The iPhone said it had access to "E" (Edge) data, but about 80% of the time whatever I was trying to do would time out, and that was from the "good" spot near the dining table. There is wifi available at the main area, from what I understand, and also at many nearby shops/coffee places/bars. The ones that do typically advertise with signs. The closest grocery store is pretty high priced, especially for weekender gear, so try not to forget anything important. Cathy's ice cream is a nice place to go on a warmer day, since it's nearby and has covered outdoor seating. The coffee shop next door to it also has wifi, if you buy something from them first.

Close to the lake, great boat docks - perfect for fishing for the kids. The swimming area has a slow slope for our little ones to enjoy the water too. The older kids loved the swimming to the raft. Also, there is a great playground and soccer/grass space we definitely took advantage of. The water was great, we brought a small fishing boat and kayaks, all were well used during the week. Great experience over all, can't wait to book again for next year!

They have a few options here in terms of size and price, but the main area is easily accessible from everywhere. Even though it's just a short distance from town, you feel like you're way out in the woods. Our cabin was clean and comfortable, with a couple different sleeping areas, a full kitchen, fridge, etc. I brought home a day's fishing catch and cooked it up right there. If you come with a larger group they have central fire pits and grilling areas and a couple big party shelters protected from the rain. They have WiFi throughout the property, which you'll probably need as I had no cell service up here. There was a baby deer on the property whose mother came by periodically to check. There's a sauna and a barn with bikes for everyone to use. Super peaceful and relaxing vacation.

And not only were the aesthetics amazing, but the cabin was immaculately clean and so comfortable! My bed was very comfortable and the furnishings in general allowed for real relaxation. We enjoy going out to eat and antiquing and other activities when visiting the North Woods, but both my daughter and I said it would not have been a tragedy if we would have had to spend more time indoors, due to weather. We stayed for a few days, during which we enjoyed fishing, taking the pontoon boat out for a day of exploring the lakes, fires in the fireplace, cooking and eating breakfast together each morning, and especially sleeping out on the porch! I have not slept so well in many years, and enjoyed listening to the loons out on the lake.Our hosts were so warm and inviting. We found some delicious cookies waiting for us when we entered, along with the recipe (which I've made several times at home). Check in and out was easy. Highly recommended for families or for couples looking for a quiet vacation together.

There is a list a mile long of what you can't do, and the "management company" at check in threatens they don't want "bad renters". They are short staffed on cleaning people, and nickel and dime you for your security deposit to pay for them to "clean" the cabin. We took sheets off the beds, swept the entire cabin, and left what we thought was left it in pretty good condition for them to clean the rest. Boy were we wrong!! It's unfortunate as we had been coming to Lofty Pines for years. With the new management we will never be back. Steve especially has issues about making sure it's known he is the boss, and definitely takes it out on renters. Just not very vacation friendly.

The accommodations, while a bit dated, were clean, comfortable and had everything that we wanted. Walkout access to a great beach where we could watch the two young boys play from our kitchen window. Very shallow, sandy bottom that was perfect for swimming. We spent a few nights by the campfire on the beach and I caught a nice largemouth right off the pier. Excellent bike and running trails were immediately accessible from teh cabin, and decent food was a short walk away at Fibbers. The owner, Jim, was very friendly and accommodating without being intrusive. All in all, a great, memorable vacation for the family. We will definitely be back next year.

Prices are still the same but services are less this year- they used to have movie nights and bingo but not this year. Also, less inflatables in the pond for the kids to play on. They do have a washing machine and dryer on site to wash your clothes, this is really nice when you get in a jam. There are ATV trails that lead right from the campground also. Eagle River is a great spot to spend to enjoy some of Wisconsin's beautiful up north. The 4th of July parade is the most fun parade you will ever experience!! We will definitely come back. Hope they can bring the moves and bingo back, our kids loved it.
