Very kind staff I had a great experience. I'm on my way to better health now that I'm having my foot problem being taken care of. Win win.

A few years ago, I had foot fusion surgery with Dr. Thomas Chang in Santa Rosa. More recently, I developed a serious, unrelated foot infection and was admitted to Providence Hospital in Petaluma. Because of my prior surgery with Dr. Chang, the hospital contacted him for guidance. He personally recommended Dr. Joba to perform the urgent surgery needed to clear the infection. Dr. Joba did an excellent job. He successfully removed the majority of the infection and saved my foot -- I was later told I was only days away from amputation. His skill, clear communication, and calm, professional manner gave me confidence throughout a very stressful situation. What impressed me most was learning afterward that Dr. Joba had voluntarily assisted Dr. Chang in the operating room on dozens of complex cases to further refine his skills, even though he already had his own successful practice. That level of dedication speaks volumes. I've since discovered that Dr. Chang is one of the most respected podiatric surgeons in the country. He has performed complex surgeries around the world on medical missions, served as a professor and department chair, and even authored the textbook Master Techniques in Podiatric Surgery: The Foot and Ankle, which is used by surgeons nationwide. I originally chose Dr. Chang based on his excellent patient reviews, never realizing I was in the hands of such a highly regarded leader in the field. His recommendation of Dr. Joba reinforced that I received truly exceptional care. That Dr Joba used his own time to work under one of the best podiatric surgeons on the planet shows that he wanted to improve his own skills though he had already left school and had his own practice. The doctor was fine, the copay from insurance was fine. Having to pay an additional copay to have them check a wound from a procedure done 3 days ago was not. I have NEVER had a doc office charge me an additional copay before to check to ensure the procedure they did was not infected. Would not reccomend and I will not be back! read more

A foot doctor? Never seen one or have the need to until I was blessed with a callus on the sole of my left foot that stopped me dead in my tracks. Even then, my nonchalance got in the way. Although annoying, I thought a callus was just an ugly thickening of the skin and it was no real biggie. Stubborn as I was, I ignored it but thank God, I was smart enough to heed the PAIN! That was when I was introduced to podiatrist extraordinaire Dr. Thomas Fitzgerald, DPM who has a thriving practice in podiatry in my neighborhood. Yes, he is qualified......Board certified in Podiatric Orthopedics, Board certified Foot and Ankle Surgery among all the other good stuffs. All his academic credentials and trainings I am sure are stellar and probably hanging on the wall in his office somewhere! The real test though was the dexterity of his hands when he was able to shave off the unwanted skin painlessly and with great precision. I alerted him that I am on blood thinners and he was so careful not to shave too deep to cause any bleeding. X-rays from different angles were meticulously shot and the shaved site was bandaged neatly and cleanly. His office sold me a pair of good insoles for my shoes to provide comfort in walking and he personally stuck some extra padding to alleviate pain and gave extra protection. Dr. Fitzgerald is soft spoken; caring and I can tell he has several years of experience behind him. Diabetics are recommended to have their feet periodically examined by a podiatrist like Dr. Fitzgerald for signs of swollen feet. I myself am confident I can eventually say goodbye to calluses and gladly add his name to my list of recommended physicians in this area. read more

The staff at Step Up got me in the day after I called. I'd tried another podiatrist and had a very unpleasant experience. When I arrived there was not more than a 5 minute wait to fill out forms and then in to be seen by Dr. Joba. He was friendly, professional, and solved the problem with my hammertoe nails in about 20 minutes. He understood the issues and noted a problem that will need further attention. Very friendly staff and I was extremely pleased Dr. Joba guided me towards some simple fixes even though I was considering surgery.

My daughter was referred to Dr Thomas Fitzgerald and we couldn't be happier. He was able to assess her condition and provide us with the orthotics necessary to correct and help her condition. We are already seeing an improvement only after six short weeks. He has shown us compassion and reflects a genuine care and concern for her condition which is something that you don't always find. As a mother I could not ask for more from a physician caring for my child. This is an update of my review of Dr. Fitzgerald. After a year of seeing him for my daughters pronation I feel like he gave up on her and any long term improvement. During our last visit he made an adjustment to one of her orthotics, just one making her lopsided. He said that he would recontact us for a follow up. After a month we still had not heard from him. Now two months later we have switched doctors in hopes of finding a doctor who wants to make a difference and actually help my daughter. read more

Well, after my first visit, I might have given three stars. Unfortunately, after my second visit, I would give it zero stars if possible. Dr. Joba had seemed like he cared at my first appointment for the most part, not the greatest, but he was ok. He gave me a cortisone shot and didn't tell me about the possibility of any negative effects. I had a few cortisone shots in the past in other areas with no help but no bad side effects. I had read the notes he posted after my appointment, and there was no truth to what he wrote. About three hours after my appointment, I was in tremendous pain that made me extremely nauseous, and I was throwing up. I had never experienced this before from a cortisone shot ( the shot was in my right ankle). I couldn't even walk. The pain was so bad, and my foot swelled up more and more each day. The following day, I ended up having to go to the emergency room and had to get an iv with nausea medicine, fluids, and pain medicine. I was pretty upset about one shot putting me in this much pain. It was almost worse than when I broke my ankle because at least then I was on medication to help control most of the pain, and I had nothing to control this. It was around Valentine's Day, and I had already made reservations for a hotel that was non refundable. We still went, but instead of going to do things we wanted to do, I was laid up in the hotel room the whole time. When I got back, I moved up my follow-up appointment because I was concerned that it had been two weeks and the pain wasn't getting any better. It was getting worse, and the swelling was still there. When I went to my follow-up, he didn't do anything. He didn't even look at my foot or ankle, and had no plans to do anything. I finally said to him as he was just going to walk out of the room "what am I supposed to do about this pain?" He said that he would call in another anti-inflammatory and walked out of the room. He didn't tell me if he wanted me to come back or anything, I heard him tell the lady at the desk, "I told her to make an appointment once she starts PT." He never told me that. Little to say, I won't be returning to see a dishonest doctor, especially when my health is in their care. I'm done seeing doctors who don't truly care about the patient. read more

I never got to find out how any of the podiatrists themselves deal with patients. The person I got on the phone repeatedly asked me questions and talked over me as soon as I started to speak, got info and then--I'm guessing--didn't write it down and had to ask again, and then finally refused to tell me the office's fee for removing a corn. read more

Dr. Fitzgerald is a great doctor who really cares about your health and will go out of his way to make sure you are treating yourself the best way possible. In my case, Fitzgerald sent me to get insoles and kept following up with me and the provider of the insoles to make sure I got the correct ones that'll solve my issue. I definitely recommend for anyone that is looking to see a podiatrist. read more

Horrible!! Horrible!! After a 2 hour wait after my scheduled appointment time. He totally screwed my nail up. He injected two toes on each foot with numbing then He cut half my nail off when he didnt need to which will now take 6 mos to heal. He couldnt even explain the procedure and asked me what nails I thought he should fix. REALLY?! I saw a different podiatrist who said all the information i was given was incorrect. I was directed to step up podiatry for my sons foot. He had a piece of pencil lead that needed to be removed. It had been embedded in his foot for quite some time and he had just recently began to complain about the pain. Originally my regular doctor had sent a referral to a general surgeon the general surgeon, without even seeing us, sent us to podiatry because it had to do with the foot. That was my mistake for not pushing to stay with a general surgeon. We had an easy enough time making an appointment and got in to see Dr Joba. He was nice enough and had a good bedside manor. He removed the pencil lead from my sons foot but it was a mess. It looked like he had no idea what he was doing. He basically cut a huge hole in the bottom of my sons foot, dug around in there until he got the piece out. Then wrote a RX for a pain killer that they don't make anymore which I brought to the pharmacy, the pharmacist called him and had him change it to what he thought was the right RX except that the RX isn't appropriate for people 12 and under (my son is 8). Then when the pharmacist calls back he can't figure an appropriate medication so he cancels the RX and recommends Tylenol.... TYLENOL for a huge hole that was cut and scraped on for 30 minutes. Unacceptable. Clearly in over his head and incapable of taking on a project like this was. read more

At first he was great. Now when I went back after a year or so he has change his business name and seems to let the clock set his schedule. I went in for X-rays and ask at that time could he trim my nails No had to make an appointment for that. When I made my next appointment I mentioned that I needed to have my nails trimmed. Next appointment he read my X-ray then I thought he would trim my nails. No I had to make another appointment for that. It takes him all of a minute or two to trim nails. I'm not making an appointment for just a nail trim at $ 25.00. That's the last time I will see him. It's too bad when money takes over read more

Absolutely HORRIBLE, AWFUL!!!!!!! I went in for an infected ingrown toenail, and not only did he completely mess up the side I went in for he decided it was a good idea to remove the nail on the side that was completely fine! Well let me tell you that was NOT a good idea. I ended up with an even worse infection on that side and now my toenail has grown back looking absolutely deformed!!!! This doctor DID NOT even sterilize his instrument after he was done working on me he simply wiped it off and put it back in his drawer! I had to go to a different doctor who was amazing (Dr. Hollander) he was speechless and could not believe that a doctor did that to my toe! I repeat Dr. Fitzgerald is HORRIBLE do not go here!!!! Fantastic is a word I never thought I would use to describe a podiatrist, but Dr. Thomas Fitzgerald fits the bill! I came in with a plantars wart and he was able to diagnose and start treatment my first time in. He was proactive in educating me on what a plantars wart is and all the different methods he could do to remove it. He shows a compassion for his patients and makes alleviating pain and discomfort his number one priority. His staff is phenomenal; each being friendly, professional, and taking a genuine interest in all patients. Overall I can say this was one of the most pleasant experiences I have had with medical doctors and I would highly recommend him to anyone in need of foot care. read more
