I had the exact same experience as Nancy F., who saw him in May of this year. The guy is just dialing it in. I was referred to him for bunions and foot pain, he stood against the far wall most of the visit. I had brought in my walking shoes to see if they were okay and after looking at the insert, said the shoes were too small and that was the cause of my problem. I put them on to show him my toes weren't touching the front, but he kept insisting the problem was too small shoes. Finally he deigned to put orthotic inserts on the bottom of my soles, but no discussion of the bunions, or what I should be doing going forward. I'm out the co-pay and still have foot pain. I don't know if he is having problems in his personal life accounting for the change from his earlier reviews, but this is unacceptable. read more

Ick. He stood 4 feet away from my sprained ankle and announced that I had an ATF (tear). Without any examination, I asked how he knew that and he said he just did. He then dismissed me, saying that he would review my MRI later and let me know if anything else apeared. But since I needed a clear picture before a business trip the next day, I said I would wait. That infuriated him. He came back and, with his back to me doing something else, told me that actually there was a break. He did not show me where the break was. He did not tell me the accurate name of the bone with the break. He did not tell me that his initial diagnosis of a tear was false. The guy was dialing it in. I concur with Katherine's review below. I had an identical experience. The doctor seems nice enough as does his staff. I spent 5 minutes there, got some tape and suggestions for shoes and inserts and was billed around $400. Ouch. My major issue though: I received the bill 11 months later(!) I contacted my insurance company and they claim they received the bill only two weeks before I got it. This time frame is absolutely unacceptable. People need to keep on top of their bills. This timing makes it impossible. AND, if you're lucky enough to have secondary coverage, there's no way you can possibly get this bill sent in on time, taking money directly out of you pocket. My foot orthotics are over 20 years old, and new ones would have cost me about $500! Dr. Johnson took the time to evaluate what I needed, and then adjusted my current orthotics to meet my changing needs. I greatly appreciate his ability to help me, and to take the time to do so. He was gracious in permitting me to fully explain the reasons leading to my foot problems, after which he provided temporary and long term solutions while treating the feet. Dr Johnson is a miracle worker! When I first visited his office, I could barely walk. After taking x-rays and diagnosing my problems, he created custom-made orthotics for each foot. I've worn inserts before, but none like the ones Dr Johnson created for me. With my flat feet and plantar fasciitis, I needed the extra support of orthotics created specifically for me. In addition to investing the time to make your orthotics (instead of prescribing pre-made styles), Dr. Johnson takes the time to understand your issues and work to control your pain. I've been to many podiatrists over the years with issues with flat feet (bone spurs, plantar fasciitis, etc), and none really addressed the issue. Dr. Johnson recommended a course of action to control my pain as we treated the underlying issue. It was such a relief to not have daily pain while walking and standing any longer!! I'm so happy I visited Petaluma Foot and Ankle and no longer live with daily foot pain. Thanks Dr. Johnson for your concern and investing the time in helping me overcome my foot problems. read more

I saw Dr. Johnson several years ago for a simple bunionectomy on my right foot. He botched the surgery and I had to go to a 2nd doctor to try to get out of pain with another surgery. After 2 surgeries I have never been the same. I am in constant pain and the ball and toe of my right foot are constant reminders of this horrific experience. I will have to have a 3rd surgery later in life to rectify the pain problem, but I can't do it now because i won't be able to flex on the ball of my foot after this. I teach ballroom dancing for a living, so I suffer every day with the problem and it has greatly affected my entire career. Don't set foot in his office! read more

I have little issue with the Doctor as a provider nor with his office staff--but know this. My 12 year old had a sore ankle from soccer. We went to see him as a new patient. He looked at her ankle for less than 5 minutes and then put on 2 pieces of tape. Told us to go to a local shoe store to get $100 inserts. Got the bill--almost $400. I wish I'd never gone...I called the office and they said the doc doesn't 'set his price' but the medical groups does. I don't buy it--he's in that medical group for a reason. Where's the humanity anymore? Geez. read more

Saw this DPM for some ongoing foot pain I was having. He recommended some exercises that didn't help what so ever. Then I was asked to come back and see him - he then recommended insoles that were too painful to bare. Stay away from this DPM. I spent my time and money seeing Dr. Johnson 6 times (way too many times!) to dx what Dr. Hollander treated me for in two visits. Try Dr. Hollander- now he's a miracle worker. read more
