There are numerous things wrong with this business. To start the gym is very small and the equipment is old. Next one class can have up to 24 children in it and they are broken up into 3 groups then rotate around the teachers who are at different events. They only receive maybe 12-15 minutes with each teacher. The kids do not have time to learn skills. Private lessons are available if your willing to pay extra and even the lessons are not worth the money. I have heard the coaches say "thats better" "good job" with no additional corrections. If I am going to pay extra money because my child is learning nothing in class then I expect to hear corrections and guidance being made. They apparently allow children to run around/ tumble without supervision. The "make-up" policy is horrible. Step Ahead will only let you make up a class at open gym where no sort of instruction is given its a free for all in there. This gym is a complete WASTE of your money They also DO NOT give military discounts which I find rather strange being it is in a military town..There are other gyms I believe 2 or 3 in Wilmington and one in New Bern. It may be more of an inconvenience because they are about 45 mins away from Jacksonville, but it is worth the drive. I transferred my children to Carolina Gymnastics Academy in Wilmington and what a huge difference. I am very please with how my children are being taught and how quick they are picking up new skills. The student teacher ratio is small, the children get more time on the equipment. The make-up policy allows a child to attend another class within there level/age group. Carolina Gymnastics Academy also honor military discounts. They also have better equipment and much more room. read more
