Posting to inform parents considering Camp Coleman. I grew up going to Coleman and decided to…read moreenroll my two children this summer. At orientation, the camp owner saw my pre k child feeling nervous. My son hadn't even met his counselors before the camp owner decided it would be mandatory for me to hire a babysitter to babysit my son in order for him to attend camp. I calmly explained that my son can be shy especially in new surroundings. My suggestions for success for my child were completely dismissed and were met with smug comments and complete lack of empathy. It was shocking and disappointing to see Coleman heading in this direction. If you are considering Camp Coleman, I strongly advise going elsewhere, where ownership cares about your children and not just your check. What kind of camp is this!?

I attended Coleman Country Day Camp every summer from ages 10-14 and I vividly remember having an…read moreabsolute blast and making a ton of great friends. I got a chance to visit them last summer when my family took my little cousin there for a day tour. I was blown away by how much they've grown both in sheer size of the property and all of the cool features they've built. Walking from the parking lot brought back so many memories. It's kind of wild how your brain can instantly bring you back to specific moments from over 20 years ago. The wildest thing that I saw they had built was their new American Ninja Warrior Course. It wasn't any rinky dink diy job either... it felt like I was on the set of the actual show! All of the staff members I met were outstanding young men and women. They were all professional, polite, and enthusiastic about their job. I remember my counselors back in the day having those same qualities and it's clear that Coleman really hires good people. I accredit my current skills in swimming and archery to the wonderful instructions that I received day in and day out when I went. Looking at the prices, they've certainly gone up since I was little but everything sure has. I'm sure if you ask my parents, they'd tell you that it was worth the cost because when the bus dropped me off in the evening each day, I was very happy but also completely exhausted. I would eat dinner, head to my room, and knock out immediately. Prior to my camp days, getting a kid like me to bed was darn near impossible. If you're looking for a phenomenal camp for your child, I'd give them a call to explore your options or to simply learn more.

This year they went to White Post Farms, Adventureland, Bounce, laser tag, bowling, Bellmore Playhouse, and a bunch of other places. Trips are different for each age group. The camp is run out of a school, so they have a playground and gym, as well as classes in stem, arts & crafts, etc. One day they had a slime truck come, another day the NY Islanders came, another day was a petting zoo with pony rides. I love that the camp has a Facebook message group and sends pictures every day of what your kids are doing. They are family run, and seem to really care.

I currently have my youngest niece enrolled at Hofstra, who also had her HS graduation here, and my other niece had her college graduation held at Hofstra. I've been to the university several times, for graduation ceremonies, and to help cousins move into their dorms and moving out. The school is very easy to navigate. There's clear signs all throughout, and the parking lots of heavenly lit at night. There's always onsite security cruising around, which is a plus and gives that extra layer of protection that you, and your family who are attending are safe. The events, and student get togethers that I so often hear about are all planned by the student council, and they always seem well organized and though out, and fun might I add! You can always find something going on at the campus, planned and hosted by the students themselves. Emily, loves it here. She's forever ranting and raving about the events, meetings, after school events, bake sales, culture nights etc. All of which she helps to plan as she's the head of the student council. If you're a parent thinking to send your child here to further their education, no need to think twice. It's a great private school. The beautiful and historic Dutch estate has been ranked as a top schools in the US for many years in a row. You and your child will love and appreciate the history Hofstra has.

He had a really great time and talk about a 2 to 3 hour nap. He didn't fully understand everything, considering he is 16 months old, but he did have a fun time while he was there. There is an area for children his age so he can play around there, but I was able to have him run around and play everywhere else. He didn't care for the bubbles area, but absolutely loved the sand corner that they have. There is a little sandbox for the kids so that way toddlers can go and play it if they wanted to. He loved going up and down the stairs and playing in the block area as well. When I first went, I didn't use what the library offered. Which if you put in that you have a library card, you and a child can get in for free for the day. My husband did come with us when I made the day through the library, but considering he got the library card and showed them that he had it, he was able to pay half the price. Which was nine dollars for us. Otherwise it would have been $18. It was a great time for my son and we were there for almost 2 hours as he was running around the place. If you do want to go more often, I know they offer a family packages. I also know that you can get a two-year package and a one-year package. The basic one-year package is $200. Which if that is the only thing you can afford is totally worth it. Especially on days where it is too cold to stay outside or it is raining. I know the other packages offer more stuff, but they are a little bit more expensive. This place is great considering that they do have events each week. That is great for all different ages. This is a place. I will definitely be taking my son more and once I have more kids will be taking them there as well.

Lots of interactive exhibits, play areas and the obligatory climbing structure. Will inevitably be busy like most things on Long Island. Staff is friendly enough however mostly in the background. Good balance of different types of things to do, including a few animals upstairs. The town play set area is very cool, and I love that they have a rotating exhibit space. It was trains when we were there, themed to Thomas the train with both a ton of tracks to play with, as well as life sized Thomas train characters. Had to drag my son out of there, however luckily their gift shop is decent with legitimate toys versus just cheap crap. Would definitely come back here.
