Ok, four stars because it is pricey, but otherwise this place is pretty amazing. Now, I have not visited many spas in the area, so I am no expert, but this place is pretty darn nice. All I know is that as soon as I started seeing Genevieve and using the Stellar Spa products, my skin has changed--for the better! She really knows her stuff and I just do whatever she says. I have only seen Genevieve for facials, so I cannot rate anything else. The extractions are pretty painless and you always get a little massage on the neck and shoulders at the end. I had my makeup done for my wedding at Stella Spa. They did a great job, and I only paid $100 total - 50 for the test run, and 50 the day of. Based on the other quotes I received I got a great deal. Amber was my esthetician, and she really made me feel relaxed and comfortable on my big day. She also listened to the changes I requested after my trial, and implemented them exactly. I agree with many of the reviews here. Stellar Spa is an amazing place and I always had a great experience here; but it is really expensive and there are some other places in Marin where I get equally as good results but for 50% of the price. In fact I think Stellar might have raised their prices? The relaxing waiting room, the robes, the bowl of cashews and lemon water are terrific add-ons and much appreciated; but in this economy I need to be more prudent with how I spend my money. Allison (facials) and Tina (Massage) are terrific and I went to them on a regular basis and was quite pleased. I had a great facial from Sarah once as well. read more

I am quite a fan of Stellar Spa. I've gone there for massages and waxing. They are very high quality. A little pricey but you do get what you pay for. I've enjoyed all my regular Swedish massages. I wouldn't recommend the Hot Stone - it wasn't terrible, just not great. I really like their lounge/waiting room, it's very relaxing and is a nice place to transition in and out. read more

Let me start with, I have never written a Yelp review and created an account for the purpose of this review. I am a reasonable and fair person, and typically would shy away from making a complaint. Given egregious experience I had at a Stellar Spa, I felt it was important to share my story. I called the spa for a same day appointment, following a stressful workday I needed to relax. I asked for a Swedish massage with a female masseuse. Only male was available, no problem I said. I arrived and was handed a robe and sandals. I wasn't shown the the changing room or given instructions on where to go. I was so exhausted I decided not to let it bother me. But let's say the greeting wasn't warm. Once in the waiting area I was taken to my room by the masseuse (who's name I won't share for privacy). My room (Tiburon room) was literally a large shower room. Tile floors, shower head exposed, shower curtain, drain under my table, very cold. It resembled the bathroom in a hospital. I made reference several times to the masseuse that the room was cold and I could hear conversations outside the room. I couldn't relax. More importantly, a spa that charges $120/massage should step up their accommodations. My massage was ok. I felt the technique was rough and the masseuse was constantly stretching my body vs massaging it. I asked him to lighten his pressure and another time said the table was hitting my throat and I was choking. He stopped and adjusting. What happened next literally made me tighten-up and freeze. The masseuse, without warning or asking permission, got on-top of me. I was then feeling VERY vulnerable. I am 100 pounds, naked under a sheet with a grown man on-top of me. After the massage was over, I went to the changing room immediately and checked out as fast as I could. I told the front desk associate I had a bad experience and she didn't even say, sorry you had that experience. I found it extremely odd that she didn't ask one question, or what they could have done better. ZERO customer service. I wanted to speak with the manager, but I had to leave to pick up my child. The next days, after speaking with several people to get their opinion, I called Stellar to speak with the manager. I explained the entire situation and not once did the manager apologize for my experience. She also went on to say the masseuse specialized in Thai massage to where I answered, I asked for a Swedish massage and was charged for a Swedish. It is not ok for any person to get on-top of someone without permission. I even went on to say that I am amazed by how no one is taking ownership of this and giving an apology. At that point I asked for my money back, to which at the end I was told no and all they could do was given me a 15% discount. I told her she could give me the discount, but I deserved my full cost back. After speaking with several trusted people within the industry, I decided to move forward with a review. Until I get my refund and a sincere apology this will stay posted. read more

Bless the Esthetcians, but the problems at the front desk and problem solving with a thought for service vs. arguments are not worth going there..This has been since day one with the purchase of $300 worth of gift certificates.. read more

Stellar spa recieves THREE whole stars because I love the smell of their products and the wax they use for the eyebrows. The vibes are always so serene and the waiting room for waxes and such is a lovely set up with snackies, teas, waters. However, i have gotten my eyebrows ruined there more than once. Now I stick to my own simple plucking of the strays...they have scarred me about letting anyone touch my eyebrows. read more

This was my first experience here even though I am a seasoned spa visitor. My facial by Christina was the best I have EVER had. She was punctual, knew her business and talked about her concerns of my skin. She respected the quiet zone that I so enjoy while having a spa experience! Her background as a massage therapist is evident in the shoulder and foot masssage that accompanies the facial. She is amazing and a professional all the way! There is one reason I keep going back for deep tissue massage at Stellar: Brian. Brian has a deep knowledge and understanding of not only healing, but also several bodywork modalities nearly impossible to find in one practitioner (seriously). Brian is respectful and professional (as I'm sure all the practitioners are at Stellar). He'll aid your body on the path to healing whether you're just looking for a little stress relief or recovering from an injury. I feel lucky to have found him. read more

The spa has been closed since September supposedly because of damage caused by a flood. Before this happened many of their best therapists had left because they were cutting their wages and hiring less experienced people. I have quite a bit of money tied up in series and gift certificates. I emailed them and got no response. I have emailed them again and am waiting for a response. I'll keep everyone posted. read more

Wow! I was really, really disappointed in my experience here this weekend. When I got there I was in a terrific mood. I was probably 5 minutes early for my appointment. I was ushered into the changing room and told I needed to fill out paperwork. I was having a prenatal massage so the paper work is denser than normal. When I got into the waiting room to start my paperwork, the massage therapist assigned to me, literally hovered above me telling me that I needed to hurry because we needed to start. I had to ask him to give me a couple of minutes because there was no way him standing above me was going to make me fill out the paper work faster. If anything, it would have been the opposite. I rushed to get it done and didn't even get the chance to thoroughly read it. I got into the massage room and was laying down by 10:07 (my appointment was at 10am). Again the massage therapist stressed that we couldn't go over 11am. Fine, my appointment was cut from 60 minutes to 53 minutes, I think I would have rather not been notified. I felt his sense of urgency the entire time, despite the fact that he was a very nice guy. It was probably the least relaxed I have ever felt at a spa and I love me some pampering. I was pretty upset by the time I was checking out. By the time I was to the front desk and being helped, the manager asked me how my massage was, I responded with some kind of meh answer. Simultaneously a girl came up behind me and instead of finishing with checking me out, she ushered the newcomer in, which felt a bit disruptive especially when there were two people working the front desk. I was pretty surprised. She gave me 15% off because I was noticeably upset about the whole experience. That was nice of her for sure, but it doesn't make up for my experience. I don't recommend this spa. It was clean, and the massage was good for what it was, none-the-less, I won't be going back. read more

I have had two facials (Replenishing Pumpkin Peel Facial & Pumpkin and Orange Organic Facial-seasonal).loved them both. The two aestheticians I experienced where professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. I was able to get skin care tips (that I wanted) and later relax for the rest of my Facial. My skin looked terrific after wards! PRODUCTS: the spa carries a line of their own chemical free products. I asked for recommendations for a body scrub and facial scrub. Hands down, both the scrubs I purchased (bamboo body scrub & rejuvenating AHA facial scrub and mask) are the best I've ever tried. For the first time EVER after using a facial scrub, my skin looks healthy and is not scratched up or overly exfoliated. And I'm comparing with high end products that are similar to Stellar's scrub (exfoliation with the option of leaving on as mask for deeper exfoliation), the others just fall flat. I love the body exfoliant. Works so well, and again, not harsh. I highly recommend this spa. read more

I have had multiple massages her with Laurie and I will never go anywhere else. She is heaven!! The staff have always been friendly, they have always been on time and I love their little snacks in the lounge. I've had many massages in my life and many times while I'm paying the bill I'm thinking that it really wasn't worth all the money. But with Laurie, it's worth it every time. It's so nice to have found a place where I can go, knowing I will be getting the experience that I am looking for and paying for. I would recommend highly the body scrub with Kathryn and facial with Hailey. That's it! My aromatherapy massage with Elizabeth took one of my best spa experiences and turned it into by far my worst. Every light was on as she started my massage. She was asking questions to me the entire time when I had told her all I wanted was to sleep and relax. The massage felt like I would imagine a free one at the local college would, when they are learning. She even verbally noted, "I can tell you aren't enjoying this." Now not only do I smell like sewage waste from a mud detox add on, but she places it so far up in the table the "mud" its mixed into my hair extensions. I get to spend my birthday dinner smelling like a porta potty. I asked for the massage to end early (I've never done that). The manager must never have heard "the customer is always right" because he offered no reimbursement (even after I asked him to just remove the $40 mud add on disaster), he didn't even ask if there was any compensation he could offer, instead justified this horrible experience. So I left crying and the lingering memory that the massuse told me to "maybe go to the beach to relax." Wish I had. Anything but stellar today :( called the owner and left him a voicemail about it but based on the managers response I won't be shocked if I don't hear back. Lost my business for sure! read more

I, too, have gone here since the spa opened. Early on, I recommended the spa to many friends, who gave my name as a referral. I would think being a consistent long-time customer somehow would get a thanks for being a regular, have a hand treatment with your service - or just some acknowledgment. Any time I have gone, taken to the locker room, I'm spoken to as though I had never been there and generally the front feels rather aloof and impersonal. I do not like to have products pushed on me and I feel the practice of having the products that were used during my facial left at the front just in case I'd like to purchase them is really a bad marketing procedure. I finally have decided to never return. Yes, for the most part, the estheticians are generally good - but not five star, by a long shot. read more

They advertised that they had pregnancy massages available but they actually didn't have the right table modifications for those in the third trimester. I have been to other places that have really comfy padded tables with belly and breast holes that make it divine to finally lay on your stomach comfortably, but this place had this weird cheap straight foam stuff that was really uncomfortable. I told the massuse it was really uncomfortable and she tried to fix it but the set up was just flimsy. I laid back down but worried the entire massage that I was putting terrible pressure on where the baby's head was in my pelvis - I was holding my breath and waiting for it to be over. I told the front desk that the table had been really uncomfortable and left me in pain when I was paying (and it is expensive) and she didn't say anything like "we'll look into that" or "I'm sorry" or anything. Afterwards, my husband asked me why I didn't just get off the table, and I didn't have a good reason. We are first time parents so we started panicking when I started having cramps as we drove home. We ended up in the Kaiser triage room for 3 hours being monitored for fetal heartbeat and movement - I was afraid I had smooshed the baby and caused her harm. They eventually confirmed that everything was fine, but NOT the relaxing experience we were hoping for! Oh, and the robes they provided are NOT big enough to adequately cover a large belly and they have you wait in a coed lobby in the robe so that was another uncomfortable moment. This not so stellar business gets 0 stars after having my 5 carat diamond engagement ring disappear from Spa! A free gift card cost me dearly. I wore the ring into massage room as i thought it was safer on me than in the locker. Sadly I fell sound asleep during massage, something I never thought could happen! I woke up when David touched my ticklish feet and asked if I would like a salt scrub? I can not positively say if ring was taken off my finger or fell off somehow. I can say that in 15 years my ring has NEVER fallen off! Not in the pool, the ocean, gym, bed, other massages or just walking around. I suppose with lots of oil who knows? What I do know is my ring was taken or found by someone at Stellar Spa and not returned. When I reported this to the manager she was so unhelpful and unconcerned! But then again she was unhelpful and rude before the ring went missing! She made so little effort to look for ring or let others know a ring was missing that I called the police. naturally at this point there was not much they could do. The manager initially tried to suggest that a "new client" that had gone in my room after my massage might have taken it. However once police showed up she suggested that I did not even have a ring on my finger. Totally ridiculous since I have no reason to go thru this ordeal!? I have no insurance for ring so I am totally screwed. I lost the sentimental value of the ring along with the monetary value! So not sure what her reason is for pointing the finger at "new client" then suggesting that I was lying!! Just diverting any attention from Spa Employees I guess? The massage therapist could not recall if I had a ring when questioned by police. I brought back pics of ring and offered a $5,000 reward if ring found, returned or info leading to discovery of ring. No questions! I am quite certain the manager never posted pic or let employees know of reward. Many of the employees I have come into contact with since this occurred don't even know that this valuable ring went missing at the Spa. The owners while polite showed no sense of concern and never initiated a call to me. Something i would have done if I had a business where a client had something so valuable missing! This was not a pair of sunglasses!! Anyway, I would not recommend this Spa and if you go leave your valuables at HOME! read more
