I was so impressed with our guides, Nick and Alex, and their local knowledge of seabirds, marine mammals, and intertidal species. Whales are cool, but there are also a lot of other really cool animals & birds in Trinidad Bay. And these guides know just where to take you. They were not afraid to take us into a little rougher waters, when we asked them to, likely because they are so skilled and experienced. I also really appreciated all of the paddling guidance they provided making sure I was using my core/legs more than my arms. I was with a very large group and the guides handled everything with such class and professionalism. It is a step above any outfitter I've ever paddled with. We are really lucky to have them in Trinidad to help us access some of the most fantastic coastline along the California coast. They also do a great job interpreting the California Coastal National Monument! All of those rocks and islands are part of a statewide national monument that runs from the Oregon border south to Mexico! Wow! What a treasure. My husband and I went deep sea fishing on the Tally Ho II Today. I was told we would be fishing for…read moreup to 6 hours or when we catch our limit. We were to leave to fish at 6:30am. Everyone was on the boat, and waiting for Captain Craig until 7:00 when he finally arrived. All 6 fisherman paid $120.00 for the trip. We went out fishing until 10:00 and the Captain said reel-in and we headed back to the dock. Not one person got their limit. I got 4 blacks my husband got two blacks 2 canaries and 2 blue's another man got 2 cod 2blacks and 1 blue. The limit is 10 person. When we got back to the dock the captain kept 8 blacks for himself. We were charged for a full day and only fished for 2 hours and travel time was 30 minutes each way. I feel totally ripped off. Don't go with Tally Ho II. He screwed all of us over. SUCH A RIPOFF!!!

I went hiking here last weekend, and it honestly took my breath away…read more As a SoCal girl now living in NorCal, I've made it my mission to explore as much as I can around this beautiful state, and Jedediah Smith Redwoods completely stole my heart. These trees are absolutely massive, walking among them feels like stepping into another world. The light, the air, the silence... everything feels calm, ancient, and sacred. The trails are super well maintained, the weather was perfect, and there was plenty of parking even though it was busy. The roads and trails are a bit narrow, but honestly, that just adds to the charm. The river that runs through the park is crystal-clear and peaceful a perfect little spot to stop and take it all in. Standing next to those giant redwoods makes you realize how tiny you are in the best possible way. It's humbling and magical at the same time If you're driving from Eureka toward Crescent City, the entire drive is breathtaking, every curve along the coast looks like a postcard. You'll even pass through Elk Valley, and oh my god, there are actual elks just hanging out by the side of the road! They're so beautiful and so used to seeing people; it felt like nature welcoming you in. If you love hiking, nature, or just want to feel grounded and amazed, this place is a must. California, you really outdid yourself with this one.

After talking with about a half dozen charters, we settled on Brad with Crescent City Fishing Charters. We liked how friendly and informative he was, so pleasant over the phone. He proved to be just as pleasant in person the morning of our trip. Brad went over some safety things for us and the kiddos, and got right to making sure we were comfortable. Throughout our trip, Captain Brad helped us get to where we needed to be to have the most fun and catch the most fish. He helped us with our poles, fixing our lines, and helping when needed to get our fish in. He didn't even get upset when we lost lines. :-) The boat was super nice, comfortable, and we could all be either inside or outside depending on preference. We had all the help we needed throughout the whole trip, down to cleaning and packaging our fish when we were done. We all caught our limits on everything by the way. (He had a little help with all his fancy equipment.) Captain Brad made our trip one of the most memorable ever, and we can't wait to go back out with him.
