The location is superb, so close to Trees of Mystery, the Klamath Tour Thru Tree, and just a short drive away from Crescent City. The bathrooms and showers were SO clean and not horrendously outdated like some camp sites. They also had amazingly hot water, which was an extremely pleasant surprise as we were unprepared for how chilly it would be up here. We stayed at camp site A13, right next to the bathroom, with an amazing view and no smell issues. There was plenty of room for our two cars and three tents (one large and two small ones). We didn't really check out the other amenities, but it looked like they had a field where you could play sports and they had free equipment rentals in the shop. Their store is another stand out feature! Some places charge a premium, knowing that their guests have no choice but to pay, yet they had reasonable prices for all of their items. They also pretty much had everything you could ask for in there. We bought their tree and bear mini lego set for $16 and saw it the next day at a different store for $21! Minus one star because their dryer didn't work too well, so we ended up with super damp clothes despite trying to dry it three times :(

They all had fabulous suggestions of places to visit and little hidden gems - make sure you go watch a sunset at the mouth of the river from the overlook, only a twelve minute drive! There are very limited options for any kind of lodging in the area, there's a small Casino with a hotel 10 minutes away and it's pricey. Closest grocery store is Crescent City to the north, so get supplies there. The campground has a store with some campground essentials but it's not a grocery store. Campground has coin laundry too, and the campground store has tide pods for .75 cents. Would recommend if in the area for hiking the Redwoods or fishing!

From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by how welcoming and helpful the hosts were. They truly go above and beyond to make you feel at home and make your stay as enjoyable as possible. One of our favorite things was the easy access to the water. Being able to get out and enjoy the beautiful surroundings without a hassle made the experience even better. It's the perfect place to slow down, relax, and enjoy the natural beauty of the area. The park itself has great amenities, is well maintained, and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. But what really sets Chinook apart is the people. The hosts were absolutely amazing--friendly, accommodating, and genuinely invested in making sure their guests have a great experience. We've stayed at plenty of RV parks, and Chinook is definitely one we'll remember. Beautiful location, easy water access, great amenities, and incredible hosts--it's hard to ask for more! Site #10 costs more than the other tent sites (maybe because…read moreit's not right in top of other tents like the others), but it's in the middle of the common area field and next to dog park with no screen whatsoever. Not worth the extra $$$ for it. This could be made so much better by adding some trees as a break around the dog park and to give this site some shade. There was nowhere to seek shade at this site whatsoever so if you wanted to just chill in the afternoon you had to bake in the sun. Also map leads you to believe you can see the river and you cannot from this site. The common deck overlooking the river with a fire pit in the middle is really nice. Also could use some shade to be used during mid-day hours. Saw some seals frolicking in the water while sitting there and that was really cool! Also tons of birds registered on my bird ID app (including osprey and night heron) so they are happy in the area. Bathrooms are dirty and aged. As mentioned by other reviewers the stall doors are very short and offer little privacy. Signs request drying off in the stall to prevent standing water but it's hard to prevent the water getting out. It's not far off the main 101 at all so you do hear road noise until it slows later in the evening. It's a reasonable distance from Crescent City and right in the middle of national park visitor centers. Short drive to beach areas. While I was there people were friendly but not intrusive, things were fine. Things could be improved but it wasn't a bad spot for the location/price.

Second, I stayed in one of the spots right along the river. Unfortunately, the hookups there are setup for huge motor homes that just pull straight in. I could not reach the sewer dump, and even if I could, the waste would have to run uphill. The camp was relatively quiet and well priced. The bathroom/shower facility was spotless. This place would have been amazing if I had a fishing boat. Otherwise, there's not much to do here.

We camped eight days. Only one night were we attacked by mosquitoes. Then we all retreated into our respective tents or RV. Initially we had mixed feelings about staying here as we've always stayed next door at Chinook RV. However as the week progressed, we began to enjoy the other campers and the campground. A few nights it was clear enough to enjoy the stars above. My one major dislike - the bugs. Daily no see um's, and the tenacious ants scaling my tent. And the occasional mosquito.

The home is beautiful and equipped with exactly what you would need for your time near the water. Klamath access could not be better and for those that want to just get away and absorb nature, this is the spot! Eagles, Otters, Bears (from a distance), Sea Lions, butterflies, Osprey, Herons...the list is long! Wi-fi is fine if you must, but you can certainly unplug! One reviewer mentioned the RV park at the property next door, and they are there, but not in the way, not loud and perfectly lovely neighbors! If you need a fishing guide, let the property owners know, they are the best, and they know their waters (Northern California up thru Oregon). The property owners are responsive and available if you need them. Jimmy knows the history of the area and is an enchanting historian. I will be back...soon!

The access to the Klamath River is lovely, and so are the clean bathrooms, hot showers, and full soap dispensers. This site only gets three stars because campers in sites around 50-53 are far from his camper and can party past 3 am with incredibly loud music. If you're coming on a weekend, I'd book around site 65-69 instead - it's closer to the road, but far enough from party people that you can sleep and enjoy nature the next day!
