We've been here 7.5 weeks now, and are going to be here another 8. My family and I came out here for a job contract, first time living in a trailer, had no idea what to expect from our new adventure and home. This park has been such an incredible time for us! We have a spot near the little playground, which has kids playing at it pretty much everyday (my toddler's favorite spot to meet new friends). All the families we've met here have been super friendly, with many coming back year after year. The manager has been so sweet too, making sure things are working out for us and we're enjoying our stay here; she even took us on a nearby hike to look at all the beautiful redwoods! When we got here, the back meadow was overgrown, the river view was fairly blocked by bushes, and the laundry room only had one washer. But in our 2 months we've been here, the staff have been working at tidying things up and have made pretty good progress with it. At this point, they're back to a full 2 washer/2 dryer laundry room, you can see the river pretty well, and the back meadow has been mowed down and become our favorite spot to bring our kiddo with her bike! The only downside is the bathrooms, but that's just because I never went camping as a kid and as soon as I saw a spider in there I convinced myself it was going to come crawl all over me. In reality, it's just an older bathroom in a campground. Plenty of showers and toilet stalls, and most importantly infinite hot water (I'm still adjusting to the 7 minutes of hot water in the trailer). Other than that, they have a little convenience store which is perfect when you don't want to make a trip into town for groceries. We have our own internet, but the few times it's gone out we've been able to use the park's as a backup without issue. No cell service, but that seems to be the case all throughout the redwood forest. read more

Tent camping at Chinook RV resort. Site #10 costs more than the other tent sites (maybe because it's not right in top of other tents like the others), but it's in the middle of the common area field and next to dog park with no screen whatsoever. Not worth the extra $$$ for it. This could be made so much better by adding some trees as a break around the dog park and to give this site some shade. There was nowhere to seek shade at this site whatsoever so if you wanted to just chill in the afternoon you had to bake in the sun. Also map leads you to believe you can see the river and you cannot from this site. The common deck overlooking the river with a fire pit in the middle is really nice. Also could use some shade to be used during mid-day hours. Saw some seals frolicking in the water while sitting there and that was really cool! Also tons of birds registered on my bird ID app (including osprey and night heron) so they are happy in the area. Bathrooms are dirty and aged. As mentioned by other reviewers the stall doors are very short and offer little privacy. Signs request drying off in the stall to prevent standing water but it's hard to prevent the water getting out. It's not far off the main 101 at all so you do hear road noise until it slows later in the evening. It's a reasonable distance from Crescent City and right in the middle of national park visitor centers. Short drive to beach areas. While I was there people were friendly but not intrusive, things were fine. Things could be improved but it wasn't a bad spot for the location/price. read more

The spaces between RVs are very limited and don't allow for very much room for tents. As for the privacy of the site, there is none. Coin operated washers & dryers: not much to say about this, in all honesty. It's exactly as you'd think, $1.50 to use the washer, $1 to use the dryer. However, the dryer heat is VERY weak. We ended up needed to pay for two dryer cycles for our clothes to be properly dried, as the first cycle (on the Heavy Duty setting, mind you), did not dry our clothes and they were very much still damp. They do not offer any laundry detergent or softener or anything of the sort, you must bring your own. They say there's a hot tub somewhere, but we genuinely could not find it. The if you are expecting to work from here off of your phone or laptop, the free WiFi offered here will not allow that to happen. The showers / bathrooms: the entire campsite runs on an old septic system and old electricity. While showering, my sister and I got awful smells of the septic tank. The showers in the campsite are in desperate need of some TLC, as they are falling apart and have cracks in the flooring. The showers face outwards, so they are prone to splashing water all over the floor and causing a minor flood inside the bathroom. Another thing to note is the stall doors on both the showers and toilets are very very short. If you are taller than 5'6, you can easily see over them, or someone can peek in. The shower stall doors also do not lock at all. While staying in the campsite, we had MULTIPLE occasions of the bathroom door being left open / being purposefully stuck open with a door stopper. At first, I believed it to just be ignorantly left open by other campers. However, on our last day, my sister and I were showering when suddenly the bathroom door was opened and left open. When we called out to ask them to close the door, we were either ignored or went unheard. We saw one of the campsite workers speaking with the man outside of the woman's bathroom. They were not cleaning anything or anything of the sort, and had left the woman's bathroom door WIDE open while we were showering. If you are considering going on this trip alone, DON'T. One of our party members went to the bathroom at night by herself, and was FOLLOWED by someone. She kept looking behind her, and he kept looking away when she'd look at him. Once she returned to the campsite and got into her tent, he stopped and went, "Oops. Wrong campsite" and walked away. A lot of the people there gave off creepy or strange vibes. One night while our whole group was at the waterside fire pit, we were roasting marshmallows. Two other members were there, one introduced herself as a staff member, Jeanette. While we initially just gave general introductions (our names), and simply went on to make our marshmallows, Jeanette went out of her way to make us uncomfortable. Jeanette looked to the only black person (second youngest, and LOOKS young) in our party and started making really strange and uncomfortable comments: "You would have such beautiful babies." and "You wouldn't be the type to leave your babies" (Racist much??). She then proceeded to straight up harass everyone in our party by coming up with strange and random BABY NAMES for all the couples. All of the couples were young adults (18-20), and all of them look super young too!! She made a few other strange and uncomfortable comments that I am choosing not to add here, but it was extremely unprofessional and very uncomfortable for everyone involved. We ended up leaving the campfire early and turning in for an early night because of it. After we had all decided to turn in, Jeanette followed my mother back to our campsite (after my mother went back for her gloves) and attempted to make conversation. My mother was uninterested and ignored her, and she, thankfully, left. Overall, we will never be returning to this campsite. You would have better luck camping elsewhere. read more

This park is not very fancy however we were traveling with friends and they set us up on a "buddy spot " facing each other and it was wonderful! Super friendly staff and helpful to surrounding information. The most wonderful part was that my credit card had been hacked and the new cards didn't get there before we had to leave, they took the information for the next campground we went to in Oregon and called me when the card came in the day after we left, went to the post office to forward it to me the same day and I received it three days later at our new campground! It was absolutely amazing and wonderful! Will definitely go back there again! read more

This is not a fancy RV Resort!!!! But it is one of the most peaceful and friendly places we have ever stayed. From the minute we pulled in here the people were friendly and helpful. They were so happy and welcoming. We got a sight right on the Klamath River and it was beautiful. It's really hard to explain the beauty of this location or the people that work and live here. We planned on staying for four nights, left after two. We have three kids and although they have a playground - our boys were too loud and brought back to our trailer because someone complained (at 3 o'clock in the afternoon). Also, wi-fi was terrible which I needed for school/work. We were told by some permanent residents that it comes and goes. (not sure why it's advertised as an amenity. The day before we got there, I received a phone call that we couldn't be in the site I selected and paid for because it was reassigned to a double vehicle spot (it was vacant the entire time we were there). The spaces were REALLY small and the site assignments were pretty smashed together. The trailer on one side of us was so close I could touch it out our window and the sites were set up so they face another trailer on the other side. There are "permanent" residents. The ones we met were SUPER nice and kind to us and our kids, they told us where to go to take the kids to the beach. The park was clean, it's right on the river and there was a great fire pit area for everyone to share (no individual site fire pits). There was on-site laundry and restrooms with showers. Although the town of Klamath is close, it's a very small town. We had to go to the casino to even find somewhere to get quarters for laundry after 7pm. I think this would be a great spot to relax if you get a good spot on the end next to the river and if you don't have kids/or kids who want to get out of the trailer and run around. (The spots are just too close for there to be any privacy or space barrier.) read more

The pros- near the river, ocean, and Redwoods. Cons - The sites are very tight. They squeeze in big rigs in spaces way too small. While me and my boyfriend were there, the water pressure was very low. There was no hot water in the bathrooms. The mens bathroom sink has dirt backed up in it. Don't believe the sign. It says they have propane, kayak rentals, a store with liquor, a resort open 24 hours...... None of this is true. They have none of this. The garbage bins are locked so there are bags and boxes of trash stacked up in front of them. There is no place to put trash. The birds then scatter the trash all over. It is a mess. sad park. read more

No major changes from my previous review. Bathrooms can use a face lift. Supplies still somewhat lacking. You have to chase the staff down for supplies. You can refill your propane tank here. Friendly campers. Lots of folks checking in last week in preparation for salmon season. The pier has been taken over by seagulls and pelicans. There's a for sale sign out front. We had a tent site toward the back of the park. We were all alone because it was mostly rv's. The site we had was tent #7. The site is nestled next to a small creek and had views of the river. Picnic table and fire ring were there, as well as a bench! The showers and toilets are very clean. All staff members I encountered were very helpful and accommodating. We will be back! read more

The new owner has some issues to repair. Men's showers need updating, Wi-Fi is poor, cable TV is a joke, could barely see the river because of brush. Been coming here for 6 years. Have to check out other parks. Pictures that are on the web are old old old does not look like that! read more

This campground is located in the middle of the Redwood Forests. You aren't going to get a cellphone signal and the Wi-Fi works only inside the recreation room. You can get a satellite signal if you have that. This park though is for relaxing and enjoying the great outdoors. We met many families that have been visiting for 25+ years and love that it is just a place to hangout and meet new people. We stayed 2 nights and the family whose camper we faced were regulars that come up every year and stay a week. We were lucky they were very nice. The family camped next to the playground had 4 kids of their own and were super friendly. Our kids, 2 little girls, and their crew had a ball playing together as all of us parents chatted. The campground is old but the owners keep it clean. The bathrooms are dated but NO moldy shower curtains or broken toilets. They made sure that it stayed clean. We visited with the owner's daughter Michelle. She was super sweet and when she saw how big our rig was and that our neighbors on both sides had encroached onto our site she offered to move our spot. We were only staying 2 nights so we stayed in our original spot and it was a blessing. We had the best time with those families. Next year the town is working on having high speed internet lines run. So not only will residents of the town benefit but within the next 2 years the park should be able to have internet everywhere. Being from the Blue Ridge Mountains we totally are used to being without internet and cell signal on a regular basis. Oh and the owners are on the ball about security and protecting families in the park. There was a questionable man in the park that made myself and 3 other LEOs take a second look at him. They saw his behavior and immediately asked him to pack up and vacate the property. As a parent I appreciate that more than anything. read more

What a wonderfully peaceful RV resort surrounded by the Giant Redwood Forest. Great place to unwind and breathe the fresh air. The park is lush green with beautiful flowers and foliage around the property, overlooking the beautiful Klamath River only about 1/4 of a mile from the mouth at the Pacific Ocean. This place is in a perfect location. Just a couple of miles from the Trees of Mystery, and numerous trails from easy walking to challenging hikes. The staff at the Resort are very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful in guiding you to choose your next adventure. In the evening there is a fire pit overlooking the river. Imagine a toasty warm fire with a cup of tea or a glass of wine or a bag of marshmallows For the kids or kid-at-heart... it's a perfect way to end a perfect day. Don't miss this experience! We used this park for a home base and went and explored the surrounding area, very close to Tree's of Mystery, Ocean beaches and Casino! Nice grassy area and pet friendly. We loved the community fire at night. Easy enough with my 35" class A and towing a car pull-thru. I would recommend this park and I would stay here again, but I always go in the shoulder seasons, spring and fall/winter, If its wet and rainy, Go find a KOA with cement pads. because in this park you are parking on Dirt/Grass and could get soft if saturated with water. read more

Just moved into Chinook RV resort. The young manager is friendly and is working hard to clean things up and is well liked. I understand there is a new owner and this park became a little left unattenden. But since my husband and I moved here all seems to be going well. All facilities are clean and well stocked. The grounds are mowed and the view of the river is wonderful. So far I would recommend this RV park for short or long term. read more

But what makes the place special is the people had a great time there interacting with other people and friends that have been going there for years. Already booked for next year. This park has changed owner and management. They have not given it any attention. It is now overgrown and rundown. You may pay extra for a "river view site" but you cannot see the river due to the weeds. Hopefully you do not need the bathrooms or laundry. They are filthy and not stocked. I made my reservation 6 months early. 1 month prior to my stay I get a call that they have a new owner and the discounts they agreed to were no longer available. To make up for this they guaranteed me site 36 which is a river-view site, no problem. Then a week before the stay they call me and say I can only have site 36 for 1 week. I tell them to stick with what they agreed to, but they would not. I would avoid this park as they have to integrity. read more

The five star rating isn't for the facility or even the price but for the feeling of peace that comes over me whenever we stay here. You can never put a dollar sign on that! We are full time rv'ers and in our 5 plus years we have stayed at lots of RV parks. Many are fancier, have more amenities and all are more expensive then this park. But this is our favorite. Nothing is more relaxing than being by this river and watching nature. The river flows out to the ocean, then the tides turn and the river flows in the opposite direction. The fog drifts into the river valley then lifts and dissipates. The salmon, in season, swim up the river to spawn and the seals follow to have a meal. The eagles fly over the river looking for their next meal. Ah, the peace. We have spent the last month and a half working our way north from San Diego and the congestion of people and cars and the high cost of everything just about made us rethink our chosen lifestyle. I just kept saying it will all be better when we get to Chinook! And it is! Our rate is $17.00 per night. Full hookups, beautiful view of the Klamath River. Chinook RV is under new ownership. The new owner's, Rebecca and Elmer are very friendly and personable. They also live on site. The facilities are always clean. Just stayed at the site for the second year running, in both cases late March. We were the only campers last year and had one other couple next to us this time around. The river sites are amazing and the winter rate ($15 per night) is unbeatable. The staff is very friendly and helpful and they make a fire for you each night at the common patio deck on the river. Not the fanciest place; that's a plus. I have been coming back to this place for four years. The park is right on the Klamath, about 1/2 mile from the outlet to the ocean. Popular for fishermen. Kayaks for rent. Bonfire on the coast every night. In the midst of the Redwood state parks. Fish, hike the coastal trail or the big trees. I love this place. read more

We've been staying here for a couple months and it's a great location! The owners and their employee couldn't be friendlier or kinder! They were helpful and welcoming right from the beginning. They took over in July 2018 and have been hard at work making improvements and adding some great things to the park. By spring, there will be a rec room, small cafe/store, and more communal fire pits. The grounds are beautiful with a great view and access to the Klamath river. The laundry room is clean and affordable. The bathrooms and showers are clean and free. This location is close to beach and forest access. There is some highway noise (since it's on the 101), but nothing annoying and at the spots close to the river all you can hear is the ocean anyways. read more

NOT KID FRIENDLY!! My siblings & parents including nieces & nephews drove almost 15 hours from San Diego. I drove almost 8 with my husband and girls from WA state. This campground is not suited for kids. We were informed of other RV customers that worked " night shift" (repeatedly)so the noise level during the day was a problem...too many disappointing issues to mention. Our family was a constant target of accusations that involved our kids.Very discouraged and sad. I felt guilty for choosing this campground. This was trip that took almost a year to plan. We made the best of it with the beautiful beaches and other surroundings. Shame on you! read more

While driving north along the coast we stopped here for a rest and some wifi. It was very clean and reasonably priced. Best of all everyone here was very friendly. The long haired man named Bob, who rents the kayaks was super cool. He was extremely helpful and even welcomed us with a couple cuts of freshly caught salmon- which was absolutely amazing by the way. We were able to watch seals hunt for fish in the river right next to our site. This place is a diamond in the rough! read more

I took a trip up the northern California coast this last summer and stayed at the Chinook RV Resort. I'm giving 4 stars for price. We stayed here early May 2015. Only $15 a night for PA holders. The RV park is on the river and we were greeted by the seals in the river. The host or owner was very nice, looks like the place could use a little TLC. Did not use restrooms so I cannot comment except the outside looked worn. If I could give it no stars I would. We have traveled the nation and this is the worst campground ever and we have stayed in rest areas, state parks and resorts. We booked two weeks and left three days earlier. The sewer had problems but they never stayed on task to fix it. The wifi was useless, 12 terrible cable channels, outdated facilities, dogs unattended, unrestrained and dog crap - against rules, one horrific dog fight between two full time resident dogs, crowded spaces won't accomadate big rigs if crowded, foul mouthed staff, larva/worms in fresh water. We have a 32ft Travel Trailer with three slides. The rig next to us was about a foot away and another rig couldn't fit on the other side of us. Spend a little more and find a different "resort". read more
