Guilford Optical Shoppe was fast, courteous, offered a great selection of options for progressive lenses, custom-shaped the lenses to fit my frames, and got the new lenses mounted in a jiffy. In the process of measuring me, they discovered that my old lenses had the center of vision too low - which would explain many of the vision difficulties I had with them. The difference in service was day and night - and the price was great, too! I don't like getting new lenses any more often than I have to, but when I do, I know where to go now. Thank you!

She explained it so that I was not so worried. She did an excellent eye exam and, rather than giving me glasses right away had me come back for a followup exam to make sure the medication was out of my system and that my eyes had stopped changing. We discussed the amount of correction (something I have never had anyone willing to do before) and I chose not to be corrected all the way to 20/20 so that I would not need bifocals to see my dashboard when I drive. My eye exam was on 6/18 and my I picked up my glasses on 6/21. To my delight they are perfect. Having been given incorrect lenses before, I was pleased that there will be no need to return for corrections, or complaints. I can't recommend Dr. Dao highly enough. As someone who works in a field related to vision I am extremely impressed with the service I received from her and from the Eye Care Group.

I have never had an unpleasant experience with any of the providers conducting the exam. These interactions have always been pleasant. The front desk staff is another story! Outside of the excessive wait times, I mean, for every little service provided, you have to wait until you're recalled, which is inefficient and unnecessary in most cases. You wait longer than the total eye exam takes in some cases. My concern is also what I believe to be shady business/billing practices (which I will be reporting). My medical insurance was billed for both my first and second yearly exams, while my vision insurance (EyeMed) covers the exam itself at 100%. Never, ever, have I had to come out of pocket for the exam itself anywhere else. Second, I purchased my eyeglasses from them, using my insurance benefits,ts even though I know I can go to Eyebuydirect or somewhere and pay much less. For a single vision prescription (pretty much-upgraded readers), I spent close to $400. In Year 2, I brought in my frames and STILL paid the same amount! I couldn't understand why! In my most recent visit, I asked why my medical insurance would be billed as opposed to my EyeMed insurance and was told medical is billed when the doctors determine medical necessity or find a medical concern (Glaucoma, Cataracts, etc.). This I absolutely get and understand; HOWEVER, I do NOT and have never had any of these concerns, so again, why is my medical insurance being billed?? because they know they will be reimbursed at a higher rate. Shady, shady, shady!

What I didn't like about this office was how much they push sales. When I was getting fitted for glasses I just wanted to get what the insurance would completely pay for-which was one pair of frames on the rack. I didn't want any of the extra add-ons or insurance and even after saying no it was continuously repeated to me. I get that it's their job to sell but if I say I don't want it, I don't want it. I also had retinal imaging done while I was there and I was informed that it wasn't covered by the insurance, it was a $30 charge. I had it done and as I was sitting with the optician my break down of benefits that she had in front of her very clearly stated that retinal imaging was covered under my plan. They still charged me and said that they will bill my insurance for the procedure but it wasn't a covered service. I later spoke to my insurance and they did confirm that the break down of benefits was correct and that I shouldn't have been charged for the imaging. A few days after the appointment I called my insurance to make sure that the retinal imaging was billed, and the office left it off the claim. The office in turn lied when they said they would still bill my insurance. The office staff also gave me a problem when I asked for my pupillary distance and my frame measurements. I understand that they want the patients to order frames through their office, but in the event that I need to replace my glasses, I will not pay the hundreds of dollars when there are much more affordable ones online and a much wide seThe patient has every right to obtain their own information and the office can't withhold it for their own benefit.

She continues to display the utmost professionalism, expertise, honesty, and if needed empathy. We always leave our visit knowing she has the best interest in the well being our vision. Additionally, the staff is and always has been fantastic. "Moddi" continues to be an expert in helping us pick out just the right glasses for our face frame... We were extremely apprehensive to attend our visit during Covid 19, as I am an OSHA Safety Trainer as well as an Educator in Infection Control Practices, I unconsciously watch to see if everyone is following guidelines. Needless to say, this office practice was spot on and received a 100. The door was locked and only patients who had an appointment were allowed to enter. The entire office was immaculate, seats and touch areas were immediately washed after use. Masks all worn properly, hands washed, touch surfaces such as countertops were washed, glasses that were tried on were sanitized, equipment washed in front of us prior to use. I could not read with my new glasses. That'll be good with migraines. It took them weeks to believe that I could not read with the new glasses, then another 2 weeks to redo my glasses. I knew when I put them on and told them I could not read. Second, I asked him about eye pain that I was experiencing. He said it was dry eyes and to use over-the-counter eye drops. No further instructions, no personal attention. His assistant did all the work, he spent 1 minute reviewing her evaluation. A year later, I went to another eye doctor and was told to use 3 types of eye drops 5-6 times per day.

None seemed to work right and were too difficult for me to adjust to. After visiting Grover, I come to find out that I have never been measured correctly and/or the lenses were not created correctly. Here, I felt like he spent time with me, did not push any particular technology and didn't feel the assembly line feeling or the pushy feeling I got from the places I tried previously. If you are happy with your current provider I see no reason to change but if you have been having difficulty with your glasses I think this might be a great place to try. He also gave me all my measurement information before I asked. Try getting that at a chain. Their dog was there, quiet, fluffy, soft and smelling clean sitting at my feet. Like a therapy dog :-)
