They insisted our mother would be best served in this facility. LESS than 12 hours later we were told by the nurses and social worker that our mother didn't belong here and we needed to find someone else immediately. This was less than 24 hours after receiving a terminal diagnosis. The care was horrible. They made her defecate in her Depends because "it was too difficult" to move her. They confined her to her bed and refused to let her even sit in a chair for the same reason. My mother weighs 150 pounds. We were told my mother bit someone and was constantly agitated. This is after 24 hours of asking them to provide the proper medications for her because "they couldn't get hold of them". The clinical director later said she absolutely did not bite anyone. They ruined her chances of getting into a hospice nursing home because of the biting report and keeping her on Haldol to keep her sleepy and compliant. They they told us the doctor was taking her off of inpatient hospice and we would need her to begin paying $270 a day to keep her there. The nurses were rude and brusque. They literally laughed in my mother's face when she asked for something that didn't make sense because of her dementia. This was one of the worst experiences of our lives. My three sisters and I couldn't wait to get my mother out of this facility. It made us sick to watch how she was cared for. The building may look nice but it's rotten to its core.

Our family spent four days here with our loved one before she passed. While the experience was a very sad one, the facility and staff are truly remarkable. The facility features 12 private, very comfortable rooms. Each room is set up much like a hotel with the exception of having a hospital bed and basic medical needs such as oxygen. Each room had a huge window to let in light and bird feeder just outside to entertain patients and family members alike. Aside from the private rooms there were several comfortable sitting areas with couches, TVs, games and gas fireplaces. The cafeteria offered meals to patients and guests three times per day. Additionally there was a small kitchen area available if you wished to prepare some food yourself. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate were always available as were small snack items such as muffins, brownies or toast in the morning. The facility even offered a computer room and free wifi if there was a need to get online. There are no visiting hours here. You can spend all day and all night with your loved one. No limits on the number of guests. We were even offered cots since we were spending nights at the facility. The grounds around the facility were park-like, beautiful and well maintained. There were two sunrooms, one at the end of each wing, if you wanted to enjoy the outdoors without going outside. The outdoor area featured several sitting areas as well as a short walking path and a playground for kids. The staff here is simply wonderful. Everyone is a volunteer with the exception of the nurses. The nurses provided the most caring and dignified care to someone nearing the end of life. I especially have to call out Liz and Dora who not only took care of our loved one, but also provided compassion and true caring to the family as well. I just don't have the words to express my true appreciation and gratitude for making a difficult situation as comfortable as possible.

He was at the Good Shepherd nursing home and Hospice took care of him and his case, completely, while he was there. They were very caring and very responsive to any questions or concerns we had. Every question was treated as an important one. When you're dealing with a situation like this, you really want to be treated with some level of respect and understanding. Navigating everything surrounding a loved one who is near end-of-life is difficult at best, confusing at worst, and having experts there to help you get through it all is worth its weight in gold. Right up to my father's passing at Good Shepherd, Hospice was there providing us all of their care, support, and help as well as keeping dad comfortable as possible. Special thanks to P.J., the Hospice nurse who most closely interacted with us on dad's case. If you find yourself in a situation where a loved one is at end-of-life, or at least near it, you won't find any finer group of people than Hospice of North Central Ohio. Many thanks for their services and support and I would recommend them to anyone.

The nursing staff was responsive to his every need and checked on him frequently. The pastoral care he received was equally wonderful. Sister Margaret Mary, in particular, was so warm and loving toward him, and I was touched by her kindness. I'm sure she brought him much comfort! In addition, I was pleasantly surprised by how the staff took such good care of my family and I while we kept vigil in my dad's room. Between my brother, my mom and myself, we never left his side on the weekend he passed. The staff saw to it that I had a pillow and blanket to keep me comfortable while I slept there overnight, and they also brought me a phone charger when I needed it. One day, a staff member cooked my mom a grilled cheese sandwich just for her, because she knew she needed to eat. They promised us they would do anything they could for us, and they certainly did! When my dad passed away, we were all given a hug by our wonderful nurse, and given reassurance that he was no longer in pain. I could tell that one of the other nurses present was fighting back tears, which touched me, as well, knowing that I was not alone in my grief. I really just can't say enough good things about the wonderful people working there who make it their mission to provide comfort and care to their patients and their families. And the facility, itself, is beautiful, clean, and well-maintained. Nobody wants to have to bring their loved one to a hospice, but if you should find yourself looking for a facility to provide palliative care for your family member, you really couldn't ask for a place better than Holy Family.
