I had developed a toothache over the weekend, and was slowly getting worse. I cold-called Dr. lopez's office and they squeezed me in a few hours later. I was a new customer, not a returning one. And with many doctors that's not good in terms of getting an appointment. But not here. I have to say, it's been ages since I've visited a business where everyone (I mean seriously everyone) was friendly, professional, and efficient. My two stars is for the fact that Dr. Lopez does not contract with any dental insurance and her prices therefore are very high. She charged me over $2000 for one crown and any follow up visits regarding the same crown were billed at $97 per visit, for the same crown, and those were issues regarding bite or pain. I feel that those visits should be part of follow-up care and not extra, given that Dr. Lopez can charge the maximum rate for her services given she is not beholden to a contracted insurance rate. The office does let you make payments on these charges but at the end of the day you're still paying a very inflated fee,versus if you had gone to a dentist that was contracted with an insurance company. She is very accommodating and gentle if you have anxiety around dental work so she definitely gets five stars for that. Updated review: The office reached out to me after seeing my review and explained that the two visits that I was billed for $97 apiece were not related to the crown charge. My son goes to school about 40 minutes from my house so it made sense to find a dentist closer to his school. Hooray for Yelp! Yelp reviews led me to finding Dr. Stefanie Lopez. My son's appointment went so well- he loved it! He's only five so his experience going to the dentist has been limited and I was concerned he would be nervous. *Update: SHE LEFT TO OPEN A PRACTICE IN SANTA BARBARA* Supposedly their staff is still good, and i'll give it a shot and update you all. -------------------------------- About 6 years ago I tried a new dentist office. I was sad to leave my old dentist in the bay area and by luck i found this office where was a really good dentist there, Dr Stefanie Lopez. Unlike other dentists who just scolded me and told me to brush and floss more, she actually explained to me how and why. She also did the exam and cleaning herself. At other places though I only got to see the hygienist lame. She takes awesome care of my whole family's teeth. She even remembers my name and has great personality to make you feel like important. The office staff is great. Don't let the voice fool you, Val is very helpful and professional. In fact, has helped me to be able to get appointments that fit my schedule. The only downside is the parking, there is no validation, but it's not like $20 for an hour, i think about $6. I just park across the street in the Marina Parking lot which is $5 for the day in the summer and $3 for the winter. This place is worth the slight inconvenience as I have never felt better about my teeth. read more
