Dr Cheryl Colbert is one of the most caring, responsive, and knowledgeable primary care physicians…read moreI have experienced in my 77 years. Her diagnostic skills are excellent. She takes the time to explain diagnoses in detail and does not rush away to the next patient like so many patient-churning physicians I have experienced.

If I could I wouldn't give Dr. Colbert any stars. I was referred to her by my chiropractor and I…read morewent to her about a year and a half ago. The office is like stepping into another period of time. Didn't even have a working scale! I found her to be dismissive. Total lack of communication. What I thought was a physical was actually a first patient visit. At least that's how I was billed. And one follow-up became another follow-up appointment without any diagnosis or explanation. At the first folow-up, she looked quickly at my blood work and then didn't go through it with me. She referred me to a urologist in Albany who had had a lawsuit filed against him for negligence. From his reviews, it was apparent that surgery was his usually his first course of action and even Dr. Colbert stated that that was probably what he would recommend. I was horrified. Then, bookkeeping sent me a bill for a visit that I had already paid for. When I tried to explain to the bookkeeper what happened, she was very defensive. I even sent a letter with a copy of my payment and the receipt and no response of apology was forthcoming. They just want to get someone in as often as possible and bill as frequently as possible. I'm not sooo old not to catch them at their scam. There was no way I was returning to her office for a third visit. I started my search for a new doctor which, happily, I have found! But the main reason I am writing today, is to inform others of another form of Dr. Colbert's "care". Yesterday, I received a letter that shocked me to my core. Basically, it stated that I have 30 days to respond to whether I want to remain in her "care" and if don't respond I will be dismissed from her "care"; that she "will be unable to continue as your physician and will withdraw from further professional attendance on your behalf". In all my years of going to doctors and even if only once, I have never received such a letter. If she had "cared" from the outset I wouldn't here with a proverbial gun to my head. Obviously, she never took the Hippocratic Oath "Do No Harm" - her oath is "Do Not Care"!

During my last visit, I came in to have a brown spot near my eye, treated with cryotherapy. Just before the doctor applied the freezing agent, I noticed she was aiming it directly at my face and close to my eye. I asked her to adjust the angle away from my face, but instead of angling it away from my face, she angled it toward my eye/nose. It happened quickly and it was a bit alarming! After the incident, I attempted to address my concerns about patient safety and comfort through a professional email exchange. Unfortunately, I was repeatedly bounced from one department to another, with no one taking real responsibility. Eventually, my concerns were ignored altogether. There was minimal acknowledgment of what happened, no meaningful follow-up, and no offer of goodwill. If this were my business, I would've reduced the fee or, at the very least, offered a discount on a future visit. Instead, my request was dismissed--and I was sent a letter stating they would no longer provide me with care which was quite insulting. I paid my bill in full and was nothing but professional throughout, but I feel the way they handled this situation was rather surprising. I won't be returning, and I won't be recommending them. They clearly don't value patient feedback.

They were competent and kind which softened the blow of waiting 45 minutes, despite having made an appointment, on a beautiful sunny afternoon. Unfortunately, Dr. Gulati was quite the opposite. I asked him to renew the script for the acyclovir cream that I use for cold sores and he said in a patronizing tone, "Why do you think that's going to help you?" I tried to reply that in my vast experience it *does* help me by shortening the life of the cold sore, but he cut me off to explain it was useless because the virus is internal so I need the pills (which is like hitting an ant with a hammer imho), thereby vetoing my request for a cream. But the research is in, the cream works. The next kick in the stomach was when I asked him if the pills would be helpful, even if the cold sore is a couple of days old. He smirked at me and took several seconds, inhaling deeply and letting out a long, condescending laugh. As that finally tapered off, he refreshed his smirk, looked at me with exasperation, as if I were incredibly stupid, and said, "How would I know that? I don't know how long it's going to last!" That wasn't even my question! It felt to me like deliberate cruelty, almost like a performance. He ignored me when I tried to respond, turned on his heel, and walked away shaking his head. Why does someone like that work in medicine? Does he treat men like that, too? Doesn't he know that people who come to him are suffering and already humbled? Apparently he doesn't care. It was so strange and dehumanizing that I called my sister to process it, to talk me down. Lo and behold, she told me a few years ago she had a very similar experience with Dr. Gulati. I write this review hoping that it might save someone a similar bewildering and upsetting experience. Patients beware: this man might make you feel really bad when you're just trying to feel better.
