I've been here twice now, in the middle of the day both times. My experience going here as a fat, pre-op trans man has been extremely positive. My first time, another trans man was working the front desk. He saw my ID, and told me "The owner is very serious about trans people being welcome at all times, so if anyone treats you badly, tell a staff member IMMEDIATELY and we'll handle it." So I instantly felt very safe. The large towel was too small for me, so I just wore it around my shoulders-- which is better for me because everybody can see what i'm working with, so there's no surprises for them. The club is pretty maze-like, which is kind of exciting. Whenever you think you've seen everything, you find another room hidden away. There are public benches, beds, slings, etc. to use without renting a private room! At the times I went (around 3 pm-6pm) the clientele seemed to be mostly older, over 40. Both times, I found people to play with, though I think I could have found even more if I'd been a bit more outgoing and assertive instead of waiting for people to come to me. Big fan. This is the most disgusting and lame bathhouse I've ever been it is very cold. The floors are filthy, and there is no hot tub and no steam room and the water pressure in the showers is very weak and little to no hot water so if you want a horrible experience at the worst bathhouse that I have ever been to, please be my guest, but this place is horrible. Not to mention the greeting that I received on arrival the staff here are extremely rude. The room that I rented had blood on the floor and chewing gum on the pillow and chewing gum on the wall door handle was very sticky, and in the restroom, there was human feces on the floor and all over the toilet. The restrooms and bath are the most disgusting I've ever seen. One star is way too many for this horrible place. I would recommend everybody just don't spend your money here. Been here a couple times with some partners and overall it's an average experience. Positives: they are trans friendly, very clean and sanitary I'd say and the atmosphere is definitely fun and can be intense which is something I enjoy. Negatives: they only have the showers open at the moment, no saunas or steam rooms which is disappointing. The crowd here can be a bit aggressive and there are a lot of definitely creepy men who come here and don't really ask for consent or even impose condoms for safe sex (there's buckets full of em at every corner btw) not to say you can't find respectful people here, but they are less common. They require you to get at least a day subscription AND a locker per person which is definitely annoying. Wouldn't recommend getting a room and if you plan on it, get the bigger rooms cause the smaller ones are too small imo. I am a big Steamworks fan and always had great experiences at every one of their locations, especially Seattle and Berkeley. I live in CA but last time I was here in Seattle they had a steamroom that was a lot of fun. Now it's gone and converted to a big video playroom with a sling, big bed, and other sex furniture. How can this be called Steamworks without the steam. I took a hot shower instead. The seats to watch the videos are tipped backward and force you to slide back perhaps to encourage bj action but was awkward. Since this is mostly a one-floor bathhouse you pretty much just walk circles looking into rooms and can explore other dark corners with small stairways for glory holes etc. but wasn't busy on the Friday night I ventured there which was disappointing. The place was relatively clean and the rooms were as well. The movies in the rooms were adequate but the volume is permanently kept low so you can't even hear the video if you preferred to just hang out in your room and get off. So I was really disappointed especially since it was so much fun before the pandemic (like everything else used to be). Just wish they had a sauna, jacuzzi, or a steamroom. So now this is just a sex club vs. a bathhouse. So just manage your expectations that if the crowd isn't very good, you aren't going to enjoy much of anything else. It's a hit or miss it you're looking for a certain type of guy. Weekends tend to be the busiest. More of the older crowd in the mornings. Great early bird deals as well, save yourself a couple $$. They do have vending machines as well for personal hygiene and to get some snacks (so bring change and $1 bills.) The events are not bad at all. Just hit or miss. I visited Steamworks Seattle, formerly Club Seattle, in July of 2006 when a friend of mine came to town for a visit. After getting the both of us completely hammered at The Eagle, he wanted to check out CS instead of passing out drunk like any good drunk should. Did I mention we were blotto? To say I stood in the lobby waiting for entrance would be an understatement, I was moving from side to side like a rope bridge. In order to enter the establishment, both of us had to pay for a membership before paying additional entrance fees. As luck would have it, an ATM is available in the lobby. I "sauntered" over, made a cash withdrawal, and paid for two lockers in addition to our membership fees--my friend was given a discount due to out-of-state residence whereas I paid something else entirely. We were issued cards, given towels and allowed entrance. Once you walk inside, you have a long hallway full of private rooms that open to the locker room and shower area. A steam area is available for walking or sitting, and an adjacent area is offered for those who wish to watch a movie on a large television. Most of my experience was spent in a blur, but I can say with all certainty that I touched no one and no one touched me. I think it helped that I kept my back against a wall in the steam area and held my locker key out like a shiv. Everything smelled of eucalyptus, and believe me I am not complaining when you stop to consider my environment. People walked around the facilities often with cleaning supplies to make sure surfaces maintained a hygienic status. I think there may have been music, but that also could have been me rocking back and forth singing songs of comfort. Steamworks is a great resource for gay men that want to meet other guys in an alcohol-free environment. The club has a zero tolerance policy for possession of alcohol and illegal drugs. I came here to have a good time while the snow was coming down but not being from Seattle I didnt realize the garages lock up at night. It was the only parking there. I checked out of my room at about 2:40am. I went to the garage. Saw it locked. I called the number on the sign. The woman said it would be an hour before they could get there to unlock the doors and it would be about 45 bucks. Speaking to the front desk agent here at steamworks, he tells me the night manager who just checked me out left and the next manager doesn't come in until 8am. I had the receipt still, and he saw me inside this establishment. So for two more hours I had to pay an extra 26 on top of the 45 I already spent. So basically I should have stayed until 6am. I worked in hotels for years, you can comp rooms and it's what I did if a guest left early. Needless to say I wont be back. The customer service was lacking. Very disappointing. Shouldn't a bathhouse whose own website refers to it as "Steamworks Baths" actually offer baths (ie., hot tub or jacuzzi)? I did not even give it a thought before going here for a soak, naturally I assumed it would be available. Nope. I'll also say that there seemed to be a lot of things that were out-of-order -- drinking fountain, one of the showers, a couple of the video screens, flickering fluorescent light in the main hallway, couple of broken lockers. It seems to be in decline and a little sad. Ditto, the clientele. If you come here expecting the Berkeley or Chicago level of Steamworks, as I did, it's a major disappointment. Finally, what is up with the ear-splitting thumping music? It was seriously unpleasant and everyone seemed to be bothered by it. I wonder if Steamworks ever asks its customers if they want it -- no one did when I was there. On the upside, the staff was pleasant and things were reasonably clean.
