    PufPuf sliders

Excellent first time dining experience having West African cuisine! Sid was great with providing excellent service and helping us to make the best choice since everything looked and sounded so delicious. We chose the Egusi soup with fufu and beef and the jollof rice with goat. We added the pufpuf sliders served with a side of pepper soup to start us off. From the first bite of the sliders I knew we were in for a culinary treat. The mango and guava juice were soo good to bring some sweetness to our spicier dishes. I loved that the jollof rice was coupled with a sauce-- it really drew out the flavors of the rice. A side of cabbage and plantains were a great addition as well. I would absolutely recommend you visit and try ALL the dishes. Its a perfect vibe for small intimate dinner or a small gathering of friends or family. I'm already planning my next trip back.

Finally tried egusi and fufu Tomato flavor and that lowkey funky smell I remember from Nigerian food Fufu dipped in the sauce was a cool experience but probably a one-time thing lol

Efo Riro (Veggi stew) with goat and fufu
    Elaine N.

Staff here is amazing! Before I placed my order, my waitress brought out a bunch of items for me to try since this was my first time at the restaurant. I liked every sample but I ended up with the Efo Riro (pronounced eh-faw ree-raw) or the "vegetable soup" with goat and a side of fufu. It comes from the Yoruba people of Southwest Nigeria. "Efo" means greens/spinach, and "Riro" means to stir. So, it literally translates to "stirred greens." I choose this because it has a deep, savory, earthy, and slightly pungent flavor, that is the secret ingredient called Iru (fermented locust beans). It acts like umami (similar to how soy sauce or miso works in Asian cuisine). The greens are cooked down in a rich sauce made of red bell peppers, Scotch bonnet peppers (for heat), onions, and Palm Oil. The palm oil is what gives West African food its distinct richness and often a reddish-orange tint. Instead of rice, I got the Fufu (The "Swallow"). It's a white ball made from real yams, not sweet potatoes or fermented Cassava. In Nigeria, this category of food is called "Swallow." It isn't meant to be chewed on its own like bread; it is meant to be swallowed along with the soup. My waitress brought out a bowl of water and taught me how to eat the Fufu. She told me to pinch off a small piece of the Fufu, roll it into a ball with my fingers, make a small indentation with your thumb (to turn it into a spoon), scoop up the Efo Riro and meat, and swallow it. Texture is like sticky dough. It is a blank canvas designed to balance out the intense spice and saltiness of the Efo Riro. I wish I had more time but I had a flight to catch. Otherwise, I would have taken advantage of their Sunday buffet and try all the other dishes they have to offer! Oh, did I mention how amazing their entire staff is? Right before I left, another waitress gave me a puff puff to try. It's like a chewy fried doughnut and that was delicious! Will be back for their buffet when I'm in the area.

    Egusi

I came here with my boyfriend for his birthday dinner. There's a small lot out front to park in and inside is very clean and nicely decorated! We were seated immediately and our waitress was so warm and welcoming and helped explain the menu to us. We decided to get Egusi with a side of fufu and jollof rice. We also got a couple of Jamaican Red Stripe beers. The portions were generous and everything was so flavorful!! Egusi is more of a stew (kind of like an Indian sabzi) and it was so delicious. We used the fufu (sticky ball that you can break off to create little scoops to eat the Egusi). The jollof also was yummy and I loved how tomato-y it was. Overall, really cool spot and so delicious!!

Just writing this review is making my mouth water. I've been to Steaming Pots several times and have tried 2 of their dishes. One being the Egusi and Fufu! The flavors in this dish satisfies every tastebud. The portions are great, the service is excellent and the ambiance is more of on the relaxed side but can turn up with live music too! I would definitely say give them a try! It's worth it.

    Our visit!

Beautiful! It was such a beautiful experience. Shout out to Sid, our hostess/ waiter for coming through. The service was great - everyone was great! The food was tasty. For me as an American it tastes really close to Caribbean food, just a little more potent or stronger. Not salty or super spicy .. just.. super flavorful. Fu fu taste like mash potatoes with no salt or butter lol. Do I recommend ? Yes. Would I go back? Yes.

Jolof and Egusi w/ fufu both with fried chicken and it was so crispy and perfect! Totally recommend!!

This place was delicious!! My son and I went and had our first African dishes and we were both very happy with the dishes. He had the chicken jolof and I had the egusi and fufu. It was all delicious!! My son can't wait to come back and he wants to bring friends. Service was polite and helpful. The decor was great as well!

Food: I tried the peanut/tomato soup fufu with chicken and the jollof rice. It was INCREDIBLE. Service: Our server was very knowledgeable and friendly. Overall speed of service was relaxed. The owner took time to speak with us and she is a wonderful person. Ambiance: The outside of the restaurant is unassuming but when you step inside, you know you've struck gold. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and clean. You can do take out, dine in, or patio. They have very good African music playing throughout the restaurant to set the tone. I plan to come back soon! I am interested in their buffet offerings.

I came in and only got their pineapple ginger since I was spending quite a bit of money at Pedritos next door but the ladies helping were super sweet and kind and I def have to come back next pay day. It smells insanely good in there and everything was super clean. Ambiance was amazing.

Jennifer was such an amazing server and helped us navigate the menu. And everything was just delicious with the right of spice for a native. Definitely try the Puff Puff sliders and native Jollof rice. Clean and Art on the wall was gorgeous.

This place blew me away. From the first sip of their pepper soup with goat to the last bite of puff puff, every dish was bold, rich, and deeply authentic. We tried a little of everything -- most of it with goat -- and each preparation was spot-on. The egusi with fufu was hearty and soulful, the jerk chicken smoky with a perfect crust, and the whole snapper was so good the kids cleaned the plate down to the bones. You can feel the pride in every bite here. The owner personally checked on us, sharing how each dish was made and where the ingredients came from. That kind of care is rare, and it shows. If you want the real taste of West Africa in Tampa -- with flavors that stick in your memory -- Steaming Pots is it

Exploring restaurants in Tampa with friends, we decided to start with this spot. While I was waiting in the car for my friend, I noticed a steady stream of people going in--which made me wonder if we'd have to wait for a table. Turns out, I was wrong--it's spacious inside! And honestly, quite cute. Jennifer was incredibly helpful. I almost went with the beef stew, but she challenged me: "You don't come to a place like this just to get something you can cook at home!" She was right. So I eventually tried something I'd never heard of before--egusi soup. Jennifer even taught me how to eat it properly--with my hands! It was such a unique experience, and the food was absolutely delicious.

New favorite spot ALERT…read more This is not a drill, I repeat, this is not a drill. Do not sleep on this little hidden gem on 5th! Before I say anything I have to say this was the best falafel I've had in my life!!!! And I'm so upset I took pictures of nothing because I was just blissfully stuffing my face the entire time. We had: sampler appetizer with 3 dips, pita, falafel and a rice salad. Tacos. Steak kabob gyro. And falafel platter with side chicken kabob. Chocolate pistachio cheesecake. Crème brûlée. The total was under $125 and that feels like a great deal for allll that food! Everyone brought home leftovers. Every single thing was delicious!!! It's also a byob spot which I love. So feel free to bring your own bottle of wine! The staff is wonderful! So sweet. The restaurant is also super cozy and intimate. Reservation recommended in case, but could easily get an outdoor spot or walk in and place a to go order! I cannot wait to try their brunch!!! I pinky promise I'll take pictures then.

Unfortunately, the portion sizes were surprisingly small for the price, especially the chicken dish. We arrived at 5:45 p.m. for our 6:00 p.m. reservation and were seated promptly, which was appreciated. However, we waited about 45 minutes for our meals to arrive. While our waitress wasn't particularly attentive, she did apologize for the delay in getting our food. The restaurant itself is cute, specially outside seating. One suggestion is that the tables are larger for two people. The table next to us requested another table to be moved over to hold their food and drinks properly. The pita bread didn't arrive until later in the meal, and while it was a nice addition, it didn't make up for the small serving sizes and lack of anything to dip it into at that point. I truly wanted to love this restaurant and leave a glowing review because the food itself was very good. Sadly, between the long wait, service issues, and portion sizes that didn't match the prices, the overall experience fell short of our expectations.

Since our table wasn't ready, we spent about 20 minutes outside taking in the view. It ended up being one of the best parts of the night. Watching the zebras and giraffes roaming around at sunset felt surreal! Once we got seated, we started with cocktails. I had the bees knees, which was light, refreshing, and a great way to kick things off. Of course, we had to try the famous naan flight, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. The breads included traditional naan, garlic naan, spiced naan, onion kulcha, and paneer paratha. The accompaniments were just as impressive. It comes with mango chutney, roasted red pepper hummus, coriander chutney, tamarind chutney, tomato date jam, cucumber raita, and a jalapeño lime pickle. It was fun mixing and matching flavors! For my entrée, I ordered the butter chicken with rice and lentils, and it was exactly what I was hoping for rich, comforting, and very flavorful. As expected with Disney dining, it wasn't spicy at all but still really satisfying. We finished with the giraffe dessert, a peanut, banana, and chocolate creation that was almost too beautiful to eat. The presentation was incredibly artistic, and it tasted just as good as it looked. Overall, Sanaa is such a unique experience with great food, great service, and unbeatable savanna views. Definitely worth it.

Took 3 person to look puzzled and then when we get tired we ask if they going to seat us as our kids are hungry . They sat us at the bar that has a 8 seater . The 5 of us was relieved to be seated as we have a long day of traveling to Disney world with 2 babies . Kevin our waiter took our appetizer orders and we were happily drinking our wine and test tasting the appetizer when an employee came to ask if we mind sharing our 8 seater table with another family. We politely declined as our kids will have difficulty eating with strangers . Then came the manager Damon, and tell us that we have to give up the other side of the table as this is a common area table . Who cares what table you have , w make reservations for window seats a month or two ago and now we are seated at the bar with a 5 year old and a very hungry and irritable 2 year old and they keep bothering us to give up half the table . So he thinks that being the manager asking we would give in & share our table with strangers ? There are at least 1/2 the dining tables that has been vacated due to the lateness of the dining time . Son in law and I don't like his manner nor tone and couldn't believe Disneyland, a place where dream come true . Couldn't accommodate us with a peaceful dinner time with our 2 little birthday girls . We finally gave in because they are making a scene and I am pass being hungry . This manager has no management nor customer skills , why can't you open other tables for new customers instead of moving us and bothering us like we are being punished for their system loosing our reservations ! Our app still have the reservation but their restaurant doesn't have our name not information. But that manager Damon, took the Worst service person on my books , being traveler for years and tasting cuisines around the world , never had I enjoy the food but has a bad taste of customer service spoils my enjoyment . I should've known better, it's Disney, they're gonna make sure that things are approachable for a large variety of people and it absolutely was! There were so many dishes that I enjoyed and I got to try new things that were exotic, but not too exotic. They did have some stuff that could be for a little bit more adventurous types, but I had enough things that were fun and different that I felt like I was taking advantage of the African cuisine and not missing out on that opportunity. It is a buffet, it comes with juice, tea, or maybe lemonade? I can't remember exactly, but you can get their POG juice if you want. It was a very large glass of juice, I will say that, more than I could drink! I'm glad that we finally went because I've heard about it for years and I've just never really been interested or willing to go, but this opportunity showed me that it is a wonderful spot.

Well, we went to animal kingdom, did not plan additional food after our reservation at Nomad (4pm), and my husband randomly decided that he might be hungry later at night. After comparing our options at AKL, we decided that Boma would be the best choice since we already had a reservation for Sanaa on a different day. This ended up being our favorite meal in terms of taste + value. The drinks are included in the price. For some reason, they did not give me ice in my juice. I don't usually like ice in water, so I guess it was nice they didn't give me ice? I didn't request no ice though, and it was too sweet so I did have to request ice in the end.
