"It takes a village to raise a child" -- and I couldn't be more thankful for ours…read more Watching my daughter say goodbye to the school and people she loves has been one of the hardest things I've experienced as a mother. Every day at pickup, she's in tears, clinging to her teacher, while I try to stay strong. Her friends hug her goodbye, and even the younger students come check on her, asking if they'll ever see her again -- begging me to bring her back to visit every month. It's been so emotional, so bittersweet. What touches me the most is seeing just how deeply my daughter is loved -- and how much love she's given in return. She's made an incredible impact on her school community, and that means everything to me. A special thank you to Ms. Tarika -- your kindness, your presence, your heart. As we said our final goodbyes, you walked to our car and wrapped my daughter in one last warm embrace, reminding her that everything will be okay, that she is special, and that she's going to do amazing things at her new school. You told her how much she means to you -- and let me just say, words will never be enough to explain how much you mean to us. To Scholars: thank you for being such a powerful, positive force in my daughter's life. You've helped shape her into the strong, kind, brave girl she is -- and I will forever be grateful.

It was the right decision, because we have seen her grow so much from her time at scholars. The teachers really pour their heart into nurturing and caring for the kids. She comes home with amazing art work, work sheets and tells us about all the new things she learns every week. They organize a lot of events where parents get a chance to connect with teachers and other parents. The annual spring and winter concerts are very well organized and it's rewarding to see the community come together. Overall it's been a very fulfilling experience and we're glad we found scholars ! They encourage outdoor playtime and also hone kids' personal preferences as well. Their reports are also very detailed and specific for each kid. They have also started meal service which is a huge relief for busy parents. I cannot wait to send my younger daughter to scholars once she's ready.

Rules, rules, rules. All school have 'em. All students and PARENTS should follow 'em…read more It's a little different than when I first attended elementary school :) But It's good to have orientation for new parents like me who has a first time child attending public school. Don't drop your kids off too early or too late! There's a time for when they can play on campus and when they will be waiting for the time to play on campus. I did have one bad experience a few years back, there when it was my nephew that was about to attend kindergarten, my cousin asked me to drive her there, so I did. The STAFF parking lot sign wasn't very large, nor was the spray painted sign on the ground large enough either. A lady approached me, I was sitting in the driver's seat, and asked "will you be leaving anytime soon?" I answered honestly "I don't know, my cousin is trying to register her son" the lady left in a huff saying "well, I am parking my car behind you if you don't know how long it'll be", needless to say, this school staff drives a burgandy SUV with a specialized license plate. My cousin came out a few minutes later and said "who parked their car behind you? " I wasn't paying attention at the time when the lady approached me I turned around and yup. Her car was parked right behind me so that I couldn't reverse out. My cousin went back into the office and the lady came out with her lecturing my cousin on that it's a staff parking lot. 1) This is our first time at this school, the staff sign for parking was very small and the fact that it's spray painted at very odd corners of the ground (now it's larger from what I saw when I picked my nephew up) This is also the first time at a school where I see there is no parking for the parents and it's in a crowded neighborhood including a park. I've moved around a lot in my childhood days, attended many schools and picked up lots of nephews and cousins from elementary school... seriously, no parent parking or visitor parking? 2) Lady, you could've asked me to move my car, being that I was just sitting in the car, it's not like I left the car to go to the office with my cousin. 3) It was very childlike to have you park your car like tha when in fact there were 2 other, yes that's right TWO other parking spot available. I don't know what kind of lesson you're trying to teach me, it's my first time at that school as well as my cousin, if my child and nephew are to attend there as their first time as well, I hope they are not treated that way nor taught to treat other's that way. ... Now that my child is attending school here, I know from experience a few years back where I can or cannot park. But I still see parents going in and parking inside...

I love both of their teachers and all the staff that I have come in contact with are all really friendly and nice. I've noticed that the Principal is very involved with the students and she is also very social and friendly to everyone whenever she is in passing with anyone. The school itself is nice, of course like every other parent that drops off and picks up their child here, would probably complain of the traffic but it's a school, of course it's gonna be busy around those times. Otherwise, my children are very happy with the school and so far, so am I!

Good school in general. sort of…read more There are very few teachers that are really good (be lucky if your child gets them), but a lot of the teachers do not care much because of the job security in schooling..! Some teachers don't know even 5th grade Math well enough to the point where they visibly get frustrated while teaching it and steer AWAY from Math..OMG. You'd be intrigued to interact with Mister Sweeney - the principal. It is like talking with a politician - every bit of it. I am saving a million words and wring just a few purely for the benefit of current and prospective parents. Advice 1) You are required to leave items (lunch, homework etc) for your child in the OFFICE and hope your child will pick them up. Even when you're a background checked parent, you can't wear that visitor badge readily flashing on the front desk of office and handover item directly to your kid - even during recess. (May be we can reason out that this is fair. But...) You'd then think the office staff will page your child / teacher in time and then hope teacher/child will remember to pick up item. But, according to Mr Sweeney, (and now me), you're advised to keep calling the office to check if they did do their *stated duty* as an adult and did deliver food or homework to your child *in time*. THEY MAY NOT. In short, don't presume the office staff members are responsible adults, but keep checking on them just like you do on your kids, by calling them repeatedly - as per school's suggestion. More advices later...
