The food is delicious. The tallow fries are much better than the surrounding competition's fries. The burgers are customizable and hardly ever wrong when I them pick the up. The wait is never that long either. However, the kiosk is costing them a lot of business. The elder crowd avoids the store due to having to enter their own food. If there was someone available to help, then they might come more often. The tables are kept somewhat clean by someone coming around to wipe them off periodically, but I wouldn't call this a "restaurant" anymore. read more

Had not been to Steak and Shake for a couple years as there's not one close by. Was in the neighborhood today so stopped in. The place was like a morgue. There's no one to greet you, just a sign saying to order at the kiosk. Once you order, you get a receipt and have to go make your drink and get any condiments and napkins. The machine was out of ice, and we had to flag a young lady down the hall to ask for ice. Our food was set in a pass through, and that same young lady called our number and we had to go get it. What happened to this restaurant? They used to have waiters and people to check to see if we needed anything. We had to bus our own table today! From the minute, you walk in to the time that you walk out the door, they have treated you to a trip back in time to the 1950s. The atmosphere is so fun and upbeat and their shakes are to die for I have never had a better shake and I've been all over so trust me, you really want to try their shakes. Their hamburgers are just as good. I always get the cheeseburger with everything on it and I eat it like I haven't eaten in weeks. It's that good. This is a regular place for me and the family. The service is typically the worst, young kids who have the worst attitudes. If you want to leave somewhere pissed off, this is the place for you. They rarely will ever get the order right and when trying to correct the problem you'll be greeted with attitude and more than likely won't even have said problem resolved. The fries, 9 times out of 10 will either be freezing or not cooked thoroughly so you get soggy fries. I don't know how this place is still open. I've been here several times and it's always dirty, place smells like old mop and grease. The service is always slow. Today I came with my son and he ordered the chicken fingers, I had the Frisco prime steak burger with onion rings. Waitress (named "Q") was extremely slow. I ordered water and a coffee. She brought the water but not the coffee. Another waitress brought the food out. No utensils, no napkins, nothing. I finally got up and asked for napkins and my coffee, took her another 5 minutes to being napkins and coffee. (Needed the napkins to wipe the extra grease off the burger buns). She brought my coffee, didnt ask if I wanted cream so I asked someone else for it, then she brought cream and nothing to stir coffee with, so I had to get up again and go find a spoon. Burger was too greasy to eat, it made me nauseated and that rarely happens to me, I can usually eat anything. In the past this location seemed "ok" for a quick meal. I did not have any (major) issues and a number of times ate there because it was very close to my house. However, there is little excuse for a live Roach being in my bag with my takeout food! We ate in and got something to go for someone at home - got home and when they opened their bag an unidentified variety of Roach fell out, luckily into the sink, where it was immediately sprayed before it could get loose in the house. I've not even seen this type before (including a photo). Regardless, the food went in the trash. Called and spoke to a manger. She was very polite and started to go down the route of about to offer me something. Needless to say, we want NOTHING else from this location after this, at least not for a long while. I wanted them to know about the problem so they can address it. She seemed at least, to be freaked out, but at the same time I couldn't help but pick up on the vibe that this wasn't the first such complaint. But who knows. Let's be honest - probably every restaurant out there has had a bug slip through no matter what they do. But a very much alive and active roach in the bags where food is placed - nope nope nope... not again. I will say that a while back we got breakfast for a few people at work one morning, and within about 4 hours several of them were let's say, "running to the bathroom a lot" for a while. Not an epidemic but not a good sign. This is why we gave the place a while before going back. Now - this. ugh. This place is the worse excuse for a burger joint. Save your money and eat at home. My husband and I stopped by to get a couple of burgers to go. I ordered the number 15 which is the bacon cheeseburger single with fries. Well what is the one thing you would expect on a bacon cheeseburger ....... that's right, bacon. Nope not one slice of bacon to be found. The cheeseburger is ice cold (the cheese wasn't even melted) but by god they got the pickle in there, three slices of pickle! So we decided to go eat here because we wanted the fries with honey mustard. I was going to go somewhere else but wanted to support them. I ordered our food, and realized when I got to the window and paid with my card I forgot to order 'Honey mustard'. I didn't realize that there was a $0.43 charge for one. Me and my daughter searched for the change which we didn't have and I couldn't use my card for such a small amount. You would think that after spending $24 for our meal she would have just given us the condiments. I'm just a little disappointed with how much time and money you spend that they would be so hard up giving customers condiments after you help support keeping this establishment in business. I never hardly ever complain about lunch dinner or breakfast but this store is a complete disaster a food poisoning incident waiting to happen. When I left I tried to call their corporate office and got a number of 877-785-6745 and when you dial that number it says that there is nobody there that's actually what the Recording says it says there is nobody there. No way to redirect your call nothing I took it upon myself to stand at the door to write this yelp review and to turn away new customers trying to come in to eat. I saved three souls from getting this horrible service in this horrible restaurant if that's what you wanna call it. We had to imput our order vis kiosk (no other option) then when we attempted to pay at the kiosk, it couldn't read our gift cards and canceled the order. Fourth attempt paid with debit card. Note: they ask for a tip when paying, yet the service is set up as pick up at the counter???? Why should I tip in this situation? It is just like going to McDonald's except McDonald's offers option of a person taking your order. Sorry, but if I have real service, then I will tip appropriately. Lol. Anyway, the food was great, although I noticed they have thinned out the selections for kiosk ordering. They also don't have condiments at table any longer. If you want seasoning for your fries, you will have to buy it at the front counter if they can figure out how to charge you for it. The manager here was very nice once I got his attention. The food here is always consistently good. The service is decent but be prepared for a wait getting your food. I have never been here and gotten my order quickly. One could argue that its cooked to order but that doesn't explain why the food sits waiting to be served. Bottom line decent meal great price just be prepared to wait no matter the time you are there. They do need to close the store for 48hrs take everything out and clean the floor with boiling hot bleach. The floor is disgusting and it has weird smells. You literally slide around while walking and there is garbage under all the booths. Today my husband and I decided to go into Steak n Shake and dine in. We don't usually eat fast food but we decided to take our chances today. We were so pleasantly surpised. Upon entering we noticed Joey giving instructions to a couple of patrons on how to work their new kiosk ordering system. Let me mention how courteous and helpful he was to them. We then proceeded to order our food from the kiosk too. We sat near the window and I noticed how clean the dining room was and also continued to notice Joey giving 4 star customer service in a fast food restaurant which is almost unheard of these days. After sitting for about 5 minutes Joey brought our food over to us asking if we needed seasoning for our fries, condiments and extra napkins. The first thing I noticed was the presentation of the burger... it looked as if it was staged for photography. I mean the cheese was draped and the veggies were as crisp and fresh as could be served with hot fries! Also, the milkshake was picture perfect! We were in shock because of our other experiences with fast food places not being anywhere near this good. My only regret is that I didn't take a picture to add to this post...We may have just lucked up on the day when all the people who care about their work were there, but I sure hope they keep it up! read more

After my terrible experience at Wendy's, I made my way to this Steak n' Shake location. Let me tell you poor customer service must be a trend throughout the fast-food franchises in Hiram. I asked for honey mustard and was looked at like it was an out-of-the-ordinary request. My order was completely mixed up with another UberEats order which clearly shows there is no organization when bagging food. The list could go on and on.
