Burgers and fries were served hot and served its purpose as a quick meal during our day in Cannes. If you order soda, they give you a barcode to scan before you can use the soda machine. I like that Steak n Shake has made its way to Cannes; the quality is the same as the burgers in the US, with a cleaner overall space near the Palais. Got the double double with fries and a Pepsi Max; for about 15 euros, it did the job for my travel day coming into the city. I'm not sure I would go back--burgers are just better in the US--but for travelers who want to play it safe, Steak n Shake works. I did appreciate that the burgers were less cooked (more pink) in France since that's what I am used to in Europe. And the side of mayo for the fries was also appreciated! read more

Delish! I'm not sure what's the deal with the poor reviews. It's not a gourmet place, but it's a whole lot better than McDonalds. The fries are freshly cut, skin-on. The burgers are the thin kind that get lots of crust and are juicy but no pink left - it's the smashed patty kind on a flat-top. I had the Wisconsin Buttery, as I'm from Wisconsin so obviously I had to order it. It was a bit rich, but really tasty. It's more expensive than McDonald's but not much. All the staff we encountered where friendly and helpful. The kitchen is open and you can watch everything being cooked. For the kind of place it is, it was 5 stars. Steak n Shake is a restaurant chain very close to my heart. On my very first trip to the States, I stayed at a Econolodge in St Louis, and opposite us was a Steak n Shake - so we literally went there every day for breakfast. I haven't even seen one since, so to come across one unexpectedly in Cannes was quite the surprise! At first we figured it was just a restaurant with the same name, and not actually part of the chain. We were wrong - the chain just exists in the south of France as well as in the States. So as to this actual restaurant, we were pleased with the prices which weren't as high as they could have been for the location. The burgers seemed to be priced on their own, but actually included fries - which thanks to the honesty of the staff, we didn't get overcharged for when we ordered fries as well as our burgers. The only negative point was that upon ordering, we should have picked up our drinks then, but didn't realise and went and sat down. This was an easy rectification by the person bring the food (who also was the manager). There's an open kitchen so you can see the cooking going on - and credit has to be given to the manager, as we watched as he threw his tie over his shoulder and jumped on the hot plate to flip burgers when they got busy. That guy is worth a star on his own. Fries are big, burgers were excellent - and the staff spoke and understood perfect English. Prices were excellent for the area, so I can't do anything but give five stars. read more

I usually don't visit France to eat American food but Steak n Shake is a nice lunch time choice if you're in a hurry. It's burgers and fries with milkshakes but they also offer wine. Comfortable seating and centrally located. read more

I've tried twice. 1st time: That was not amazing but okay, thought it was a day off and it usually is better. 2nd time: Okay this place is really bad. How can you screw up a burger. Oh and since when do you put ketchup on a burger? Patty too cooked, dry buns, cold fries. Oh and did I mention the ketchup in the burger. The coke was good (ha!). I even think McDonalds is better... And gosh I hate this place. But yeah, I was excited to finally have a good burger place in Cannes but nop... I'll have to wait again. Final opinion: Don't go. read more

The young locals were lined up for this very traditional American institution located in Cannes, FRANCE. The house burger was a little small so I would suggest going for the larger version. It was delicious in any case. When you are having a burger craving while in Europe this will fix it. In Cannes for business and needed something that wasn't French food. Spotted this and went in. The smiling manager greeted us warmly and walked us around to the line. A hostess handed us a menu and the we ordered at the counter. Food shortly arrived by a very friendly server. Manager checked in on us twice! He was superb and the staff was unusually friendly and responsive relative to every other meal we had at much fancier places. Nice change of pace on many levels! read more
