There was also some rotted wood that had to be trimmed out and replaced, and some additional work and materials to support a weak point in the framing. The work crews were fantastic people and 'bent over backwards' to meet our needs. They had to come back to find and repair 5 leaking areas. They put in a lot of extra time and work to make sure all leaks got sealed up. None of the windows are vertical but all on a slope. Andersen Windows would not Warranty the windows because of the slope, But Gennaro warrantied all their work and said they would be sure that there were no leaks. So they stand behind all their work and design. Again, I cannot emphasis enough that the work crew people were all great and seriously wanted to make sure we were happy with all their work.

In spring 2023, we had our kitchen remodeled and had a positive experience with Able Remodeling…read more Remodeling is always tough in some ways (especially if you are living in your house, as we were), so it is important that you feel you can trust and problem solve with your contractor. We had a great relationship with Able's new owner, Octavio Ortega. Octavio has an engineering background and was be able to explain and problem solve on structural issues (not unexpected, as our house is nearly 100 years old) and a good mind for tracking all of the details that a kitchen remodel requires. I'll admit, I'm good at tracking details too, but I was often pleasantly surprised whenever I learned that something I was concerned had already been taken care of. Octavio was responsive throughout the project. Any time we had a question or concern, Octavio responded immediately and assured us it would be resolved to our satisfaction. I don't think we ever went more than a day without hearing back from him, which was important to us when we were in the midst of the project. I can imagine the worst feeling would be to think you are being ignored when your house is a construction zone. We never felt ignored by Octavio. The lead contractor and assistant on our site did solid work. We were pleased that most aspects of the job were done right the first time. I often work from home, and would frequently hear the lead contractor explaining to the assistant how to do the work correctly. For example, I remember one conversation about how to cut and place the backsplash tile in the corners of the kitchen so that the cuts would be least noticeable. Honestly, our backsplash install is just beautiful. Whenever we raised concerns (e.g. we needed to have some of the trim work redone), the team addressed our concerns quickly. We also appreciated their attention to little details, like adding extra pieces to the corner floor boards to soften those edges for our pets. They were also just a friendly group of people, easy to have in your house day after day. Additionally, our "punch list" of those little items that have to get fixed before the job is completely done were completed in a timely manner and we were not asked to pay the balance on our account until everything was done. Pricing was fair and Octavio communicated clearly with us whenever we had a "change order" that exceeded our allowance for an item. The balance due at the end of our project was not a surprise at all. Obviously, no project is without its hiccups, and there were days when we were frustrated, but in the end, we have a beautiful kitchen and feel good about the experience and the people we worked with. We have asked Octavio about future projects and will absolutely work with him again if given the opportunity. We highly recommend Able Remodeling to others.

Bottom line, if you value quality, professionalism and timely work DO NOT USE THEM…read more Had a kitchen remodel done earlier this year, and we're still dealing with issues on completion and quality. While we understand that we had a smaller scope of work, we expected much better. Quality: they're are many defects that I am still discovering with workmanship on this project, and we are currently still waiting for crown molding trim to be completed for the upper cabinets (this project began in January). Professionalism: Attention to details in the planning process seemed to have been heavily ignored. The wrong laminate was installed on the kitchen countertop, and it took nearly two weeks to remedy the situation (see photos below). Scott (the quasi project manager) seemed to have a very apathetic attitude toward the situation when we made attempts to reach him after discovering the issues. Timeliness: While I fully understand how delays often occur in construction supply chains, KDC's contractors seem to believe that adhering to a schedule is optional, rather than mandatory. We were originally told that work would begin in late December, however demolition didn't actually begin until early February. With that, we were also given roughly a 2 week timeline for completion of the project. It took roughly until the beginning of March to have a functional kitchen again. With the understanding that we had a more limited scope of work compared to a full kitchen remodel, KDC seemed to value us as lower priority. Ultimately, I would strongly advise finding a different company to work with, perhaps somebody who has better oversight of their contractors/sub-contractors

To begin, the project manager would only communicate by text. He would never answer a phone call. Details I had requested were ignored or pushed back as if I were ignorant. (My career was a director of maintenance and operations. I over saw the maintenance of 3 million square feet of classrooms and offices). There was no system to track customer details. The owner of the franchise called me one day and asked if I were getting quartz or granite countertops and what color were they. My sales rep was out for the day so there was no shared source for details. This happened throughout the construction. The final poke in the eye was the interior paint was flat! No sheen. I requested eggshell and got flat paint. Why would a contractor use the cheapest tract house paint? Our floor was, shall I say, quite messy around the walls with paint splotches. He cleaned all of that. We have two bedrooms off of this room. The flooring was terrible in the door ways with offsets also. Given the age, they look absolutely beautiful now. Our floor is so bad, that the ends of the planks and the nail holes are quite dark from considerable age, and still, they look very nice afterwards. They had to the charm of the satin finish. We even had an area about 16 inches square that was, shall I say, ugly. The area had been repaired crudely. He removed the planks and did a very nice staggered repair. The room has a baseboard heater on one wall. I removed it for the repair. I will be installing a new heater. The floor surface underneath was terrible. Allen repaired this area right down to the area around the electrical supply. Given the age of the floor it looks just great. Now, when at some future time, someone replaces the heater they will find a very nice looking floor underneath. Allen was very clean as he worked. There was very little sanding dust for his belt sander had dust collection. His other finishing equipment had vacuum capability to which he attached his supplemental vacuum system. This floor is adjacent to an oak floor. He did a very professional match up. We can't wait for us to contract Allen to finish the oak floor of one bedroom. It has never been finished since it was put down 50+ years ago. Given the "old charm of our little living room, this floor should turn out just great under Allen's expertise.
