Quality control is nonexistent. I had a gut feeling when I booked this place it might be lacking in quality. The first thing that I notice at a business is the entrance. Mold/mildew/black stains on all the sidewalks and parking lot should have been the indicator to run. I generally wear slippers at home for comfort and wear them at hotels due to dirt and the unknowns on the floor. I get it, at hotels you can't tell the guests to take their shoes off, but when my slippers turned black and made a sticking noise when walking on the tile, I knew something was up. Carpet has a life expectancy, but they could at least do a light shampooing once a month to lighten the grime left behind. Sure the room might not be available for one night, but it's worth it to provide a higher standard to the customer. It's troubling when you decide to purchase cleaning spray and wipes at the local Walmart to better your room. Each handle on kitchen, bathroom, and shower are loose and leaks/drips. So if the rooms are attended to each day, why is the cleaning crew not reporting it to maintenance? And why do I have to tighten the toilet seat because it moves at least an inch left and right? If it's cleaned all the time that means someone should notice that. The vegetable tray in the refrigerator falls to the floor because the stops on the back of the tray are destroyed. Again, if this is being cleaned why hasn't it been replaced? The burners on the cooktop had leftover grease on both of them and when you turn them on, the smoke fills the room and you have to open the windows to air it out because the microwave vent just circulates back into the room. Key cards...why does the card reader on the south side exterior door not work at all and the north side makes you swipe upwards of six times before it acknowledges your card even during daylight hours? The cleaning crew needs glasses or a course on what to clean. All the doors, door trim, cabinets and refrigerator doors have yellow/browns spots of old food and who knows what? The hallways smell like B.O. and they shake a white deodorant on the carpet to mask it. The air conditioners are definitely not cleaned (see pics). Breakfast: why is there a 1/4 to 1/2" of water drowning the oatmeal? It's not even close to being edible and that is one of the easiest things to make....it comes with instructions!! The closet doors aren't even close to closing because they are not aligned. This is the first and last time I stay at an IHG hotel. My gut told me to stay with the competitor of Hilton. To me, it's a total lack of pride in ownership. There truly is no oversight on enforcing standards. I back up my review with the pictures.

Showed up here. The reception said the manager needed to talk to me in the phone. He said the hotel accepted my reservation but it was a system glitch. Instead of finding a room, this hotel booked me in Wyndham instead. A much inferior hotel but kept the same rate. Will not come again ever.

Nice kitchen for cooking in.

On the road again and in TX. This hotel is very clean, comfortable and the staff is attentive. On Tuesdays through Thursdays they have complimentary food and beverages. Not to mention breakfast in the mornings. Worth checking it out if your ever in McAllen TX.

The carpet in rooms are pretty gross. I asked for my room to be cleaned and it wasn't. Do not recommend.

La Quinta by Wyndham McAllen La Plaza Mall - Marks / broken ac

I can go on and on but here we go. 1. When we first got…read morethere we had a front desk employee his name was William. (We got there Friday afternoon) His customer service wasn't the best but anyway moving on to the room we get to the room and turn on the AC (yes I know you need to give it time for the room to get cold) but after a couple of minutes of turning it on there was a lot of HEAT coming from the actual ac unit and smelled like something was burning! Me having 3 kids did not want them to smell that burning smell so i called William at the front desk and he told me he was going to switch me rooms. I turned off the ac and went downstairs. William then switched me to another room Right Next Door to the room that smelt like burn. 2. The new room was very poorly kept. The chair was broken. The ac was broken. There were black marks on the walls. After constantly fiddling with the ac it worked but at this point my kids were tired and ready to take a nap. So we stayed there. 3. Saturday; BOTH elevators were broken!!! This was just the icing on the cake for me. The elevator on the left was broken when we got there but the one on the right broke apparently Saturday and everytime we had to go to our room we had to go to the third floor with 3 kids. One is an infant so of course we had to go up the stairs carrying her! Keep in mind it's sooo hot outside and there NO AC IN THE STAIRWELL!!! 4. Finally, Sunday I was ready to leave this hotel! When checking out I showed all pictures to Marcelino (new front desk) (his attitude was much more empathetic and sweet) I always take pictures of things that were broken/wrong with the room the day I go to it. And he had no words for why the room was so poorly kept. Yes bed was comfy, location was the only good thing about this hotel but tbh I rather drive all over town to get to the mall or anything than to stay here again. The amount I paid is ridiculous due to the conditions of this whole hotel! Never have I been to a la Quinta with these poor conditions .

But part of the reason we chose this one was because they allow our feathered family member. The staff is pleasant and helpful. Water pressure and the temperature of the hot water was not very good. I could not tell if the hotel is new or being remodeled outside, but I think it is older with weak water pressure. Our room came attended by a gecko that hid in the air conditioning unit but the gecko did not bother us, nor did we bother it. The room was extremely clean, and as I said before the staff has outstanding customer service skills. We would probably stay here again just based on how welcome we felt.

I almost don't want to write this review because I'd rather keep this place to myself!…read moreThis Hilton is my favorite hotel in the area. The staff are consistently friendly, the food from the kitchen is excellent, and the bar team provides some of the best hospitality I've experienced. Everyone makes you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. The amenities are solid, nothing flashy, but that's not why I keep coming back. The hotel has a great atmosphere, is always clean, and is very tastefully decorated. It's comfortable, reliable, and always a pleasant stay.

I stayed here in two separate occasions on April 12 for an overnight business trip and April 27-29 for a short business trip. The first experience (April 12, 2026; room 310) I had here was not good. Lots of beat up furniture, peeing paint, stained curtains, dirty bathtub and random body hair on fresh towels from when I just walked into the room. I just sucked it up and stayed in my room because I was in it for less than 12 hours anyways. The second experience (April 27-29, 2026; room 324) was a bit different but oddly similar at the same time. I had to message the Hilton text chat to see why my room wasn't ready after the check in window had gone. They told me the room I requested had mechanical issues and needed to be repaired, but they didn't once tell me about that or reach out to me to change my rooms. I had check in on the app already and requested my digital room key to skip the counter like always since I usually come in late. Luckily, the agent was able to assist and get me a new room and I had my digital key within 15mins even though I was still an hour away. I got here and got to my floor to hear a dog bark a few doors down from me... that wasn't too big of an issue this time the room was actually pretty decently cleaned (I only got pictures of before I was leaving so it's lived in right now. Those are the photos I posted to this review.) The room was much more tolerable in terms of cleanliness. Now the thing was I don't know what was going on next door, but it sounded like construction in the next morning early too. It woke me up and I tried to go back to bed but ended up just going to work. When I was leaving my room I saw there was a utility cart in the hallway so it had to be construction and not guests. Then I walk in and there is a nail on the floor by my door. I will say the best part about this hotel was the staff both on the property and through the text message line. They were attentive, apologetic, and overall not a brick wall! It was nice to see people solve issues and respond so fast! They also had water in the room already! That's a win in my book

OK, so it's old and far off the interstate and we had to pay for our breakfast, but it's clean and comfortable and having now found it I wouldn't stay anyplace else in McAllen.

I'll be very honest and say that I had low expectations staying at this hotel during a business…read moretrip but it's actually charming. The hotel itself is quite old, built in the early 1900's. The architecture and style make you feel like you're on Mexican resort. The rooms are cozy, yes they are older but the bed was comfy, you have a fridge, coffee maker and a microwave in your room. And to my surprise, the TV is smart capable so you can watch Netflix and other apps. The gym is small, basically the size of my room. There's 3-4 treads, a scale, and free weights. There are no vending machines on the floors even though there are placards on the halls directing you to one. If you want a snack or soft drink there's a snack shop in the lobby. There's also a restaurant on site that's only open for breakfast and dinner. My only real issue with the hotel is that they have a serious problem with their keycards becoming deactivated. I had to go back to the front desk twice throughout my stay because my key stopped working. It's a known issue, the staff themselves had trouble reprogramming my key and said it's a very old system and the keys are sensitive. Aside from that, it's a solid choice for the area.

I am impressed! Fast, friendly check in! Room was huge, bright and comfortable, loved the black out shades, comfy beds and plenty of room to work out! Large TV with plenty of channel selections, large shower and sink area - all good! As an Ambassador member they left a very generous gift basket loaded with snacks and drinks which was a nice gesture! They have a bar downstairs and small restaurant though I did not try it! Great location, close to shops and restaurants! Will definitely stay here again!

Pretty much the standard 'we're sorry we didn't meet your expectations . . .' Then she also indicated she was going to add loyalty points to my account. Okay - good gesture - props for addressing and trying to 'make it right'. Then a few days later a pending credit to my credit card showed up in the amount Inwas charged for the room and I was really impressed . . . But the pending credit disappeared the next day . . . and no loyalty points have been added to my account. I contacted Marriott Bonvoy and was told that points like that post in a few days. So - unfortunately - this property made a bad experience even worse! The initial review: So - positives and negatives. After having WiFi, streaming and plug-in/USB issues at the last 3 Marriott properties we've stayed at, we figured we'd give this place a try since part of their business model is open-concept and technology. The outside of the property was nicely done with different life-sized statues. The inside was very open and looked nice. The staff at check-in were friendly. The room itself was very open concept - not my usual 'type' of room but it was actually good - very modern as well. Plenty of USB and plug-ins which was good. The bed was ok - not great - much softer than we generally like but not too bad. The pillows were heavy and full-sized -- a big plus given the industry trend towards tiny wimpy pillows. The one nightstand had a 'music station' that looked like and old-fashioned radio but which is designed to use your device to play music. Nice - but it took up 90% of the nightstand. The bathroom was fine - no issues at all - plenty of counter space and a shelf underneath. That's where the good parts end. Given the streaming issues we've had at Marriott properties lately we tried the streaming - and - it would not work. It simply would not go into any screen to allow signing in - not for any streaming platform. They sent someone to look at it and said they had to 'escalate' it. So - same story as the other properties, but it was worse here because the streaming and technology is a BIG part of their business model. So - we tried the 'regular' tv. Unfortunately, while the menu showed channels, there was no program guide so you literally had to flip through every channel to see what was on. Again, very disappointing especially given their business model. Then, at 3:47 am, we heard an extremely loud voice - sounded like they were in our room. We kinda freaked out and then we realized there was nobody in the room but it was clearly someone speaking VERY loudly from in our room. After turning on all the lights, we found the hotel's walkie talkie that they left behind the microwave when they were trying to fix the television/streaming. It was cranked up to max volume and someone was talking on it. Neither of us were able to go back to sleep and when we went downstairs to go to our morning meeting we took the walkie talkie to the front desk. Clearly they were confused but no real apology at all. So - once again a Marriott property has some issues. We are thinking it's time to cut ties with Marriott despite our rewards status with them. Something has really, really changed at Marriott properties the past year.

Also had an issue with some rooms next door with the smoke detectors going off that set off the fire alarm; they must be sensitive. Happened three times in the span of an hour. Drove up and first thing I saw was all the construction workers and piles of building materials - yep it is under construction and nope it does not mention this on the website!! The entire ground floor appears to be under work and there were no apparent guests there just unfinished walls and wet paint The second floor was not being remodeled though it needs it badly - rooms are dated, damp spots on the popcorn ceiling and the water was cold - made for a miserable shower and towels were old and yellow.
